Christi as Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific 2010
There’s nothing new anymore about established beauty queens crossing over to other national beauty pageants and winning a second title to their names. The likes of Catriona Gray, Carlene Aguilar, Katarina Rodriguez, Kirby Ann Basken (from Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific 2006 to Miss Universe Norway 2007) and Leren Mae Bautista fall under that category – even the subject of our blog entry for today.
But what really makes Christi Lynn McGarry more unique compared to the rest? I can name two (2):
Christi McGarry during the first time she represented the Philippines in Miss Intercontinental back in 2010.
1) She was crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific 2010 but was sent instead to Miss Intercontinental 2010 in the Dominican Republic after the original Mutya ng Pilipinas Intercontinental 2010 Carla Lizardo could not fulfill the overseas mission. She placed in the Top 15 and was named Continental Queen of Asia Oceania. In the same year, she was appointed to represent the Philippines in Top Model of the World where she also finished in the Top 15.
2) When Christi suited up for Bb. Pilipinas 2015, she wanted so much to win any of the titles at stake except for Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental for obvious reasons. But as fate would have it, she earned the right to represent us in Miss Intercontinental for a second time. The only difference is that she performed better by grabbing 1st Runner-Up honors to Valentina Rasulova of Russia and claiming the Continental Queen of Asia Oceania sash once more.
Christi (2nd from right) was more successful in her second attempt when she finished 1st Runner-Up during Miss Intercontinental 2015
Christi’s pageant career is colorful to say the least. Maybe the hues are not as bright as, say competing in either Miss Universe or Miss International. But all things being equal, her share of achievements cannot be sneered upon. Here is someone who vied twice for the same international pageant crown, made a creditable mark at first and returned as a more polished and prepared fighter five years later. All #ForThePhilippines.
This is how Christi spends her golden hour workout at home while on ECQ
Two more familiar names and faces for Bb. Pilipinas 2020 – Patricia Denise Babista above and Justine Felizarta below.
Now recency-wise, you would remember Pat quickly because I blogged about her just earlier this month.
As for Justine, you should still recall as a former Binibini from the 2015 edition when she made Top 15, went to Canada to finish her studies and returned home for this.
There is a thought in Human Psychology that goes, “If you want to do something which is right, don’t wait for the right time. Start doing the right thing and make the time right.”
Alaiza has been part of the wish-lists and watch-lists of pageant followers almost every year after her first Bb. Pilipinas experience last 2015. She was 21 then.
Practically four years after – and at just the perfect age to rejoin – she has reached maturity. And a totally different mindset into the game. I hope.
Will she accept the challenge?
Alaiza is wearing Boom Sason swimsuit in the photos here.
And if one had to do it all over again, everything has to be planned right.
Back in 2015, Alaiza was #Binibini21 and hopeful of winning one of the titles. But perhaps, the timing just wasn’t right. She needed to develop herself even more, while undergoing a string of life experiences that would make her realize that pageantry is the world that will bring her greater glory. Modeling was good while it lasted. But as loyal supporters can agree, she is cut out to wear a national crown sooner or later.
Four years have passed since. And Alaiza is prepared more than ever to fulfill an unfinished business she started before. She is meant to be a Binibini for a second time. And she is bound to prove herself worthy of becoming a Bb. Pilipinas.
At 24, Alaiza Flor Malinao is ripe for a second attempt in the nationals. After her first Bb. Pilipinas foray last 2015, the gap of more than two years has seen her pursuing a place under the sun in the World of modeling. She has already given it her best shots. Do you think it’s time to get back to the pageant route and fulfill a previous dream to be crowned as a Queen?
In my opinion, Alaiza is ready for a return. After stints in Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 4 and Elite Model Asia-Pacific 2016 plus the experience of modeling in the US, the signs are egging her to make a Bb. Pilipinas comeback.
Will we see her signing up soon?
Do watch her latest interview with US-based host Janelle So below.
This is one of those bubble-bursting updates, unfortunately.
It only took my last blog post about Miss Globe 2015 Ann Colis to finally break her silence regarding Miss World Philippines 2017 and her talked-about joining. She personally called me up to explain matters very thoughtfully. We had quite an enlightening conversation. Afterwards, I asked her to come up with her official statement on the matter.
Read now.
“I have considered and still continue to entertain the possibility of joining Miss World Philippines. But 2017 is definitely a no-go because of all my current plans to further pursue my modeling career in the US. Actually, I will be moving to New York City in a month or so to explore more career options out there. And at 24, I really need to do this – travel and get possible projects that would hopefully give me reasons to stay on as an international model. I will be in Toronto soon to judge Miss Globe Canada (and Miss Globe 2017 eventually), but that’s the farthest I plan to get involved in pageantry this year.
By 2018, that is the time when I will definitely sit down and make that one final decision to sign up for Miss World Philippines – a big move that will make all fans and supporters happy. Fingers crossed!
I know that my followers have already started building me up in social media as one of this year’s aspirants. But I sincerely hope that you will still be there with me next year once I focus on joining MWP. By then, it will be a “now-or-never” proposition, and your continuous rally behind my back is something to keep me up and running for another crown.”
If we are to go by interpretation of captions, then one of the latest uploads of Bb. Pilipinas Tourism turned Bb. Pilipinas Globe 2015 and Miss Globe 2015 Ann Colis is indicative of the next step she is very likely to take – “Eyes on the Prize 🌏”.
For the past week now, Ann has been dilly-dallying on finally answering my questions sent via private messages. And I gave her all the room to contemplate on the matter. If she was able to (very discretely) beat the July 22 deadline for Miss World Philippines, then I will definitely see her screening this weekend alongside the other hopefuls.
What’s your take on the possible crossover of Ann Colis, dear readers? Do the rewards far outweigh the risks? 🙂
As some of you may know by now, the Final Screening of Miss World Philippines 2017 will take place this coming Saturday, July 29. I am not at liberty to share the exact venue first since it will be a closed-door activity with restricted access.
Miss World Philippines Organization General Manager Bessie Besana has already given out clues to the bullet profiles of the ladies who managed to submit their application forms before the end of the day last July 22. And one of the more obvious references is former Binibini Teresita Ssen Marquez who is classified as “actress and niece of a Miss International”. Can it get any clearer than that description?
Anyways, we all know that Wyn-Wyn is definitely aspiring to become a certified beauty queen and Miss World Philippines could be the most appropriate venue for her to do so. Will she finally show up and screen for this one?
From Bb. Pilipinas 2015 to Miss Universe Canada 2017, Justine Felizarta has shifted gears
From being Binibini 23 of Bb. Pilipinas 2015 and making it to the Top 15 of that strong edition lorded over by now Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Justine Beatrice Felizarta is finally evolving into a more polished and renewed version of herself as one of the delegates for Miss Universe Canada 2017.
The Vancouver-based 23 year old will be one of the ladies vying for the national crown currently on the head of Siera Bearchell who placed in the Top 9 of the 65th Miss Universe in Manila last January. And this early, she is one of the more active contenders who is spreading her cause for Operation Smile with a benefit fundraiser (see image below) and the physical presence in the different activities of the Filipino Communities in Canada.
normannorman.com will follow Justine’s journey in Miss Universe Canada 2017. If she is fortunate enough, then we just might see a second Filipina competing in Miss Universe 2017 along with our very own Rachel Peters.
Mia (leftmost) with Vianca Marcelo and your blogger during MWP2015
And the fencer is back! Mia Alysson Hernandez Howell will show that she has the guts and confidence more than any sable, foil or epee events sha may have mastered in the past. And this articulate beauty will turn the heat more than ever with her excellent communication skills and expressive self once the pressure to do Q&A becomes a battle of wits and reasoning.
Mia joined Bb. Pilipinas 2015 and signed up for Miss World Philippines 2015 afterwards. She has the 2nd Princess crown to be proud of. But more than a princess she dreams of herself to be. A Queen’s title is what she is aiming for. And once she sets her eyes on the prize, there’s no stopping this KF bet in making her second appearance on the Bb. Pilipinas stage more fulfilling.
In the meantime, here is Mia’s fun video from Bb. Pilipinas 2015.
Hi! Norman here. When I'm not working, I spend most of my free time planning on daily blogs. If you will notice, I always make sure that a fresh topic comes out everyday - not an easy thing to do but it's all good. Thanks for dropping by and enjoy the visit!
