When you’re sure of who you are, nothing can break you down. Miss Universe Philippines 2023 #MichelleMarquezDee is a testament to this.
In any competition, people will always have their personal bets– which often leads to non-believers discrediting whoever wins. Case in point: directly after winning the Miss Universe Philippines title, photos of Michelle during her teenage years resurfaced on social media. This led to the public questioning her sexuality.
While no individual owes another an explanation about their sexual identity, Michelle Marquez Dee is here to put a stop to the rumors: she is bisexual and it’s none of anyone’s business.
By living out her truth on her terms, Michelle hopes that her bisexuality won’t overshadow her other advocacies such as autism awareness. After all, the beauty queen believes that being queer shouldn’t be the only thing that defines one’s entire character.

With only two (2) titles at stake (unless a surprise crown is announced at the last-crowning-minute), it leaves me with a sad heart accepting the fact that the casualty rate for Binibining Pilipinas 2023 is higher than all editions of previous years.
But instead of dwelling on the feeling of discontent, I opt to look at the silver lining of future possibilities and anticipate new pageant franchises being made known in the weeks or months to come. For now, I would really like for BPCI to temporarily restore the Bb. Pilipinas Tourism crown just so that the winner is already known to many as the first-reserve-in-waiting, as are the runners-up.
Among the 40 Binibinis, I have been consistent in my choice for Binibining Pilipinas International from the start and she is Trisha Martinez of Laguna who fits the template of the Japan-based pageant to a T. With her gorgeous face, sweet demeanor and competitive height, Binibini 29 easily ticks all the boxes associated with Miss International.
As for Binibining Pilipinas Globe, I see two ladies fighting closely to win this honor – Binibini 24 Anna Valencia Lakrini of Bataan and Binibini 5 Gianna Llanes of Palayan City, Nueva Ecija. These two come from entirely different molds but they have the common qualities that make good fits for The Miss Globe. Let’s see who among them will good fortune favor on Sunday night.

Binibini 29 Trisha Martinez of Laguna: my choice to win Binibining Pilipinas International 2023
But not to discount the chances of the rest in my Top 12, I can also see the likes of Binibini 3 Lyra Punsalan of Pampanga, Binibini 6 Angelica Lopez of Palawan, Binibini 35 Sofia Lopez Galve of Rizal, Binibini 27 Zeah Nestle Pala of Tarlac Province and Binibini 11 Kiara Giel Gregorio of Cabanatuan City not making it easy for my top three choices. One or two of them can come from not-so-far-behind and steal the limelight at the most opportune moment. We’ll see!
Anyways, the rest of my Top 12 can also be considered spoilers if breaks head their way. And they are Binibini 8 Mirjan Hipolito of Angeles City, Binibini 14 Jeanne Isabelle Bilasano of Albay, Binibini 16 Atasha Reign Parani of Cavite and Binibini 38 Lea Macapagal of Dinalupihan, Bataan.
Good luck to all the Binibinis! I hope and pray that the incoming super typhoon will deviate direction and not dampen the pageant proceedings at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

What may have happened last night on the way to Top 10 from Top 18 of Miss Universe Philippines 2023

The announced Top 10 without Angelique Manto
My take on what happened last night when all Top 18 ladies were asked to do the Evening Gown Competition even after the announcement of the Top 10 by host Xian Lim.
1. I think Angelique Manto of Pampanga should have already been part of the Top 10. But when her name wasn’t called…
2. It is possible that SGV & Co. reviewed the individual scores of the judges and may have found a glitch in the computer tally that may have led to the decision of doing a manual tallying of the scores in the Swimsuit Competition (which was the basis of who will make Top 10) instead. After doing so, the Kapampangan representative’s score must have been discovered to be high enough to be part of Top 10 but was unannounced due to the technical issue in the list printed from the main computer and handed over to the host.

The Evening Gown Competition with all Top 18 still participating
3. As a result, all Top 18 ladies were asked to return for the Evening Gown Competition, perhaps to avoid any controversy. I reckon that SGV & Co. wouldn’t want a technical error go unnoticed and uncorrected.
4. From there, Angelique Manto entered the Top 5. This despite people wondering why someone who was not in the announced Top 10 even advanced to the Final Cut. She must have been in the thick of the top-tier fight all along.
I could be wrong, but this is how I see it. People must surmise why such a technical issue still happens in this day and age. But it still does. Apparently.

The three new titleholders
So who’s going where?
Aside from Michelle Marquez Dee being Miss Universe Philippines 2023, two other ladies in the Top 5 were given their crowns during a separate event at Okada Manila:
Pauline Amelinckx is now #MissSupranationalPhilippines2023.
Krishnah Gravidez is now #MissCharmPhilippines2023.
Congratulations!
