MISS PHILIPPINES-EARTH 2011: FEISTY IN FOREST YEAR
Now on its 11th year, the advocacy-driven Miss Philippines-Earth beauty pageant aligns itself with the International Year of the Forests as it centers this year’s competition with the promotion of forests conservation.

Last March 22, the candidates took over Manila as they invaded the stage in a fashion show cum preliminary judging at Robinsons Place Ermita strutting in their environmental wear with the theme, Amazon. The official delegates representing the country’s various cities and municipalities wowed the audience in their own interpretation of the Amazon look as they battled in creativity and showmanship. It was an afternoon full of beauty, feistiness, and fiery passion.

Catch the beautiful ladies at the remaining Robinsons Mall Tours on the following dates at 4PM:
April 8 Robinsons Novaliches
April 15 Robinsons Sta. Rosa Market
May 13 Robinsons Metro East
Twelve candidates who will emerge victorious in the preliminaries will compete on the finals that will be held on May 27, 2011 at Robinsons Galleria.

The Miss Philippines-Earth beauty pageant is the annual search for the special pool of ladies who do not only possess the beauty of face and figure but also ones who could be the Ambassadors of the Environment. Dubbed as Beauties for a Cause, they become advocates of Mother Earth as they go around communities to hold seminars to heighten the awareness of the public and to encourage them to an eco-friendly lifestyle. Moreover, they engage themselves into various activities like tree planting and coastal clean ups which aim to encourage more people to help lessen the problems of the environment.

Coronation Night is set on June 5, 2011 in one of the country’s finest and pristine provinces, Puerto Princesa, Palawan known as the City in a Forest.

Featuring the voices of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, will I am, Jamie Foxx, George Lopez, Rodrigo Santoro, Wanda Sykes, Tracy Morgan, Jake T. Austin and Leslie Mann. According to IMDb, it is about Blu, a domesticated macaw from small-town Minnesota, who meets the fiercely independent Jewel, as he takes off on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro with this bird of his dreams.

Rio in Real 3D is directed by George Saldanha and will open in the U.S. on April 15 but should show in Manila right after the Holy Week with the rest of Southeast Asia simultaneous with the US.

Chonburi’s bet Chanyasorn Sakornchan was crowned Miss Thailand-Universe 2011 last night.

Chanyasorn Sakornchan, 20, was proclaimed Miss Thailand-Universe 2011 in glittering ceremonies held last night at the Royal Paragon Hall of Siam Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand. The 173 cm. beauty – a heavy favorite who speaks American English fluently – will now represent her country in the Miss Universe 2011 in Sao Paolo, Brazil this coming September.

Her court includes Niratcha Tangtisanon (1st Runner Up & Miss Thailand-Earth 2011), Nuttamon Krisnakupt (2nd Runner Up), Kanyarut Pongkumpanat (3rd Runner Up) and Passaraporn Konkamhaeng (4th Runner Up).

Congratulations, Fah! (that’s the winner’s nickname) 😉
