Mia Hernandez Howell for Bb. Pilipinas 2017
Mia (leftmost) with Vianca Marcelo and your blogger during MWP2015
And the fencer is back! Mia Alysson Hernandez Howell will show that she has the guts and confidence more than any sable, foil or epee events sha may have mastered in the past. And this articulate beauty will turn the heat more than ever with her excellent communication skills and expressive self once the pressure to do Q&A becomes a battle of wits and reasoning.
Mia joined Bb. Pilipinas 2015 and signed up for Miss World Philippines 2015 afterwards. She has the 2nd Princess crown to be proud of. But more than a princess she dreams of herself to be. A Queen’s title is what she is aiming for. And once she sets her eyes on the prize, there’s no stopping this KF bet in making her second appearance on the Bb. Pilipinas stage more fulfilling.
In the meantime, here is Mia’s fun video from Bb. Pilipinas 2015.

Good luck to you, Mia! 🙂
Is Mae Liezel Ramos ready for her 3rd and final attempt at Bb. Pilipinas glory?
Mae Liezel Ramos of Naga, Camarines Sur is twice the familiar face in the nationals by now. Having joined both the 2014 and 2015 editions of Bb. Pilipinas, she has learned everything important to make a 3rd and final attempt more memorable. And this time around, she is not leaving any stones unturned. At 26, she does not have time on her side anymore. It’s make-or-break mode for this beautiful Bicolana
if and when she finally joins the line of applicants at the Araneta Coliseum office of BPCI this month.
Liezel has learned to conquer whatever self-doubts she may have in making one more move. Could this be her luckiest year in Bb. Pilipinas? Lady luck’s charm should hopefully stay by her side and be headed for the pageant glory of her dreams.
Your inputs on Liezel, dear readers? 🙂

Will we finally see a return of Wyn-Wyn Marquez to the Bb. Pilipinas stage?
Back in 2015, Teresita Ssen Marquez – or Wyn-Wyn Marquez if you will – almost blew the Bb. Pilipinas finals over with her fiery presentations onstage that gave the other favorites a big run for their money. She was a joy to watch in both swimsuit and evening gown as the training showed in every move and turns that punctuated her solo spotlights. Everyone inside the Araneta Coliseum then was sure that she would get one of the crowns at stake. But when announcement of winners came, her name was not included inside the sealed envelope. No use looking back to the reasons behind the same. Move on she must.
And this 2017, are we bound to see her once more in the nationals? It was earlier blogged that her cousin – Michelle Marquez Dee – is also being convinced to sign up for the screenings. Will we see a battle of the two? This should be very interesting if all things fall into place.
Back to Teresita, does she deserve a spot in the list of Binibinis for 2017, dear readers? Raise of hands please.

Is Mariel de Leon ready to join again?
Mariel (leftmost) during a Pre-Miss Universe MAC Workshop
By now, we can start discussing about Maria Angelica de Leon aka Mariel de Leon without constantly associating the name with her showbiz parents. She deserves to have her own identity because Bb. Pilipinas 2017 could be her second foray into the nationals.
Mariel’s photos in this feature were all taken by my coverage partner Joy Arguil from the Pre-Miss Universe MAC Workshop that we attended at the cosmetic brand’s HQs at 8 Rockwell. And you can see how well MUA Gery Penaso has transformed her face into a glowing work of art. And she can only return the compliment with a smile that tells us that she is ready for a return to Araneta Coliseum.
Get ready for a whole lot of Mariel de Leon 2.0
Honestly, you need to experience Mariel as a person and in person to be able to appreciate the totality of her potentials as a beauty queen – those square-ish jawlines that distract some. Those facial moles that get mixed reviews from the rest. And the figure that prompts more than a few to suggest more fitness training with John Cuay. She will do her homework. Just you wait and see. A lot can be done in more than a month’s time (the photos here were taken last January 11
). She will show up at the BPCI Office on or before February 24.
One more time for Alaiza Malinao?
Once is really not enough, especially if you are someone like the gorgeous Alaiza Flor Malinao. And if she failed in her first bid to win one of the titles during Bb. Pilipinas 2015, failure should no longer be an option for her return. This pride of Davao (just like Jehza Huelar) has a fierce determination to work hard for something once she puts her heart and mind to it. Never mind the short-lived stint during Asia’s Next Top Model Season 4 when she prematurely bowed out of the regional modeling search and lost in Elite Model Look Asia. Such must be signs telling her that she will eventually find her place in the sun while garbed in sparkling gowns, elevated on top of platform heels and wearing a clasped candidate number that will signify her original dream of becoming a national beauty titleholder.
So are you ready for Alaiza Malinao 2.0? I’ve been ready for her since 2016, to be honest. 😉
I still believe that Alaiza has it in her to win a crown
Anja will represent Germany in Miss Supranational 2016
There will be another very familiar name and face who will compete in Miss Supranational 2016 (which will be hosted in Slovakia and Poland from 19 November to 2 December

“Presenting to you the new Miss Supranational Germany 2016 Anja-Vanessa Peter.

She was Miss Universe Germany 2015 1st runner-up & Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Top 15 Finalist.
Let us support her on her journey to the crown 👑 Thank you so much” ❤❤❤👍🇩🇪😁

Interestingly enough, both Anja-Vanessa and Joanna come from the same beauty camp (Kagandahang Flores) here in the country where they were pageant-trained. So it would be nice to see them as roommates once the competition in Europe starts reelings off 2nd half of next month.
Miss Supranational Germany franchise holder Frederick Lobaton is optimistic of Anja’s chances in the bigger challenge up ahead. The latter has already been immersed in trainings, workshops and photoshoots that will better equip her already polished self for the global pageant stage.

Allow me to wish Anja the best in the mission for Germany. She may be representing another country, but she has already endeared herself to Filipino pageant fans here and worldwide. 🙂
Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach during her Farewell Walk and Speech as Miss Universe Philippines 2015 (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)
In all of my years of pageant coverage, I have never encountered a farewell speech delivered LIVE. Usually, the outgoing titleholder would record the same prior and expressed during the farewell walk and wherein she would only lip-sync a few important parts towards the end. That is, until last night when Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was given the privilege of doing a spontaneous recital of hers. It was very meaningful, and not a few eyes were left teary because of the emotions that really tugged at everyone’s heartstrings – be it inside the Big Dome or right in front of the television screens (keep in mind that this portion was already airing simultaneous with the ABS-CBN telecast
Watch the video now as recorded on the small screen.
It was truly a sight to behold with words that dramatically unfolded to the keen interest of all, including Miss USA Olivia Jordan who even gave her a standing ovation for the same. 🙂
