Christi as Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific 2010

There’s nothing new anymore about established beauty queens crossing over to other national beauty pageants and winning a second title to their names. The likes of Catriona Gray, Carlene Aguilar, Katarina Rodriguez, Kirby Ann Basken (from Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific 2006 to Miss Universe Norway 2007) and Leren Mae Bautista fall under that category – even the subject of our blog entry for today.

But what really makes Christi Lynn McGarry more unique compared to the rest? I can name two (2):

Christi McGarry during the first time she represented the Philippines in Miss Intercontinental back in 2010.

1) She was crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific 2010 but was sent instead to Miss Intercontinental 2010 in the Dominican Republic after the original Mutya ng Pilipinas Intercontinental 2010 Carla Lizardo could not fulfill the overseas mission. She placed in the Top 15 and was named Continental Queen of Asia Oceania. In the same year, she was appointed to represent the Philippines in Top Model of the World where she also finished in the Top 15.

2) When Christi suited up for Bb. Pilipinas 2015, she wanted so much to win any of the titles at stake except for Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental for obvious reasons. But as fate would have it, she earned the right to represent us in Miss Intercontinental for a second time. The only difference is that she performed better by grabbing 1st Runner-Up honors to Valentina Rasulova of Russia and claiming the Continental Queen of Asia Oceania sash once more.

Christi’s pageant career is colorful to say the least. Maybe the hues are not as bright as, say competing in either Miss Universe or Miss International. But all things being equal, her share of achievements cannot be sneered upon. Here is someone who vied twice for the same international pageant crown, made a creditable mark at first and returned as a more polished and prepared fighter five years later. Will she or won't she? Go to Miss Intercontinental 2015, that is.

Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2015 Christi Lynn McGarry found herself in a highly unique position after winning last Sunday night.

For starters, she won the crown that automatically gave her the right to represent the Philippines in Miss Intercontinental 2015, the same competition she participated in (and where she made Top 10) back in 2010 as a Mutya ng Pilipinas titleholder. What could make the scenario extra interesting (in an iffy kind of way) is if the organizers of the Europe-hosted pageant will approve her candidacy which should make her the only country delegate ever who will take part in the same tilt in two separate years.

Sounds weird and useless, if you ask me. And my hunch is not about to lean towards the above. So what could be the options for the beautiful 25 year-old Fil-American?

1) Switch competitions with Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2015 Rogelie Catacutan. Not the most appetizing result in my books, but it would be the quickest resolution. After all, I see both Supra and IC as equals despite Christi’s title looking like the slightly more prestigious one based on seniority of existence in the global beauty stage.

2) Allow Bb. Pilipinas Tourism 2015 Ann Lorraine Colis to represent us in Miss Intercontinental 2015 instead. This is a relatively more complicated process to choose because it could effectively force BPCI to fast-track the third option which is something that has been taking them too long to finalize.

3) Get a new pageant franchise for Christi Lynn to compete in. This is tricky in the sense that the international contest should be worth the weight of the Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental title or close to it. For now, there’s not much to choose from in terms of a solidly-built reputation. Some would suggest The Miss Globe 2015 scheduled to happen in Ontario, Canada come October or the Reinado Internacional del Cafe 2016 which is always hosted by Manizales in Colombia every January. Regardless of which, the choice will definitely be a lower-tiered contest.

As what fellow pageant blogger Joyce Ann Burton-Titular stated in her site, it will all be sorted out by BPCI sooner or later.

Tall and tan and young and lovely. The adjectives fit her well.

And at a veritable height of 5’11”, Christi Lynn Landrito McGarry is one of the two tallest Official Candidates in Bb. Pilipinas 2015 (the other one being six-footer Crissa Mae Mendiola). She held the title of Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific 2010 and represented the country in that year’s edition of Miss Intercontinental. In Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, she left quite a good impression, enough to make her a part of the Top 15 and declared as Queen of Asia-Oceania. Watch her crowning moment during Mutya 2010.

This year, 24 year-old Christi Lynn could be one of the designated spoilers of Aces & Queens for the crowns at stake. For obvious reasons, she can no longer be considered a potential successor to Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental Kris Tiffany Janson. But still, there will be at least four more titles to vie for. And this statuesque Fil-American beauty is more than pumped up to give the competition her best shot. She has already fulfilled the residency requirements of BPCI so there should no longer be cause for concern in that regard. All she has to do is to focus on the challenge at hand.

Miss Intercontinental 2010 is Maydelise Columna of Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico captured its 3rd Miss Intercontinental crown when Maydelise Columna was proclaimed winner over 60 other candudates last night in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. She is followed by 1st Runner-Up Karen Susana Schwarz of Peru and 2nd Runner-Up Anastagia Pierre of the Bahamas.

Miss Philippines Christi Lynn McGarry made it to the Top 15.

Whew! This is really a busy pageant season! After the Miss World 2010 finals last week in Sanya, China, the crowning of Miss International 2010 will be held tomorrow night in Chengdu, China. Meanwhile, sandwiched in between is the proclamation of the 39th Miss Intercontinental tonight from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Sixty-three (63) delegates from around the world are vying for the title currently held by Hannelys Quintero of Venezuela.

Here are my favorites to figure out well in the finals:

Ashley McGarry is representing the Philippines in the ongoing Miss Intercontinental 2010 competition in the Dominican Republic.

The Miss Intercontinental 2010 is ongoing in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The winner will be crowned next Saturday, November 6. The Philippines is represented by Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific 2010 Christi Lynn ‘Ashley’ Landrito McGarry, a Fil-Am from the US East Coast. People ask why she was sent here instead of Mutya ng Pilipinas-Intercontinental 2010 Carla Lizardo. Unfortunately, a close relative of Carla died during a fire recently and asked if the organizers can send someone else. Ashley was promptly called to fill in her shoes and agreed to a switch of pageant (Carla will now be going to the Miss Asia-Pacific next year).
