(Note: In the wrap-up below, I included only the pageants that are either established or fairly recognizable.)
With unfinished businesses in both Miss Universe and Miss World, the performance of the country in international pageantry this 2022 cannot be definitive. But with whatever has been accomplished, the period is dotted with placements galore and a sprinkling of wins in competitions that are considered minor or less than prestigious at best.
Consider these line-up of outputs:
1. Miss Eco International winner Kathleen Paton
2. Miss Global winner Shane Tormes
3. Miss International Queen winner Fuschia Anne Ravena
4. Miss Supermodel Worldwide winner Alexandra Mae Rosales
5. Noble Queen of the Universe winner Cristina Gonzalez Romualdez (left photo)
6. Miss Cosmoworld winner Meiji Cruz (right photo)
7. Miss Tourism Metropolitan International Angelica Pantaliano
8. Miss Tourism World 1st Runner-Up Justine Felizarta
9. Miss Eco Teen 1st Princess Francesca Beatriz McLelland
10. Miss Grand International 5th Runner-Up Roberta Tamondong
11. Miss International Top 15 Hannah Arnold
12. Miss Earth Top 20 Jenny Ramp
13. Miss Supranational Top 20 Alison Black
14. Miss Intercontinental Top 20 Gabrielle Basiano
15. The Miss Globe Top 15 Chelsea Fernandez
On the male side, the collective tally is not bad – already a generous assessment considering how the country has been doing in the past 5 years or so. If only Mister World was staged this year, then Kirk Bondad might be leading the field:
1. Mister Beauté International winner John Ernest Tanting
2. Man Hot Star International winner Jovy Bequillo
3. MR Universe winner El Cid Camacho (left photo)
4. Manhunt International Male Supermodel 1st Runner-Up Joshua de Sequera
5. Mister Grand International 1st Runner-Up Kristzan delos Santos
6. Mister International 4th Runner-Up MJ Ordillano
7. Mr Gay World Top 7 Finalist Jhapett Raymundo
8. Caballero Universal Top 10 Andre Cue
9. Mister Supranational Top 20 RaÉd Fernandéz Al-Zghayér
10. World Fitness Supermodel 2nd Runner-Up Mark Jero Bagaporo
11. World Fitness Supermodel 4th Runner-Up Edviro Fuentes Jr.
In spite of the fact that Philippine representatives pride themselves to be one of the most well-prepared in the world, we cannot expect to claim victories (or #1 finishes all the time). As the saying goes, “you win some, you lose some” (or lose more, if you will). The role of fate (or destiny) will always be in play however which way we look at it. Let us just be grateful of achievements as they come, and in whatever shape or size. After all, humility is a value that should always be present in everyone.
Looking forward to 2023 with enthusiasm!
Next stop: The 71st Miss Universe!
Compared to their Miss Universe performance record, the country Iceland has collected a total of three (3) Miss World wins to date – Hólmfríður Karlsdóttir in 1985, Linda Pétursdóttir in 1988 and Unnur Birna Vilhjálmsdóttir in 2005. It even scored a Miss International win through Guðrún Bjarnadóttir back in 1963. The highest crown, though, remains elusive to this Nordic Island country.
Will the record above change with the entry of 18 year-old Hrafnhildur Haraldsdóttir in the 71st Miss Universe? This snow-loving beauty is sure to make heads turn in NOLA. How far can she take her bid?
Watch the 1-on-1 of this beauty-and-brains Icelandic Queen and tell me your impressions.
The video below is an update on the training of Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi in Los Angeles before she flies to New Orleans for the start of next week’s Miss Universe.

It won’t be long till Señorita Paula Madarieta Ortega flies to Colombia where she will represent Filipinas in the annual Reinado Internacional del Café. I’ve always been supportive of this lady ever since her first national pageant here in the Philippines. And now that she is going bigger, my hope is that she brings pride to the country in the competition.
Buenas suerte, Paula❣️
Ukraine has always been a source of doll-like representatives for Miss Universe or almost any other international pageant it joins. Viktoria Apanasenko is no different than most of her predecessors. But what sets her apart is being a Peace Ambassador of the United Nations Global Compact Ukraine. She speaks with a soft and charming voice that won’t get lost on attentive listeners and followers.
For the 71st Miss Universe, Viktoria will wear a national costume called ‘Warrior of Light’ (see photo below) courtesy of costume designer Lesia Patoka. It symbolizes her nation’s fight against the darkness, like an archangel Michael with a sword protecting Ukraine. The costume was made in four months of extreme conditions with the deafening sound of sirens, absence of electricity and with only candlelight provided.
Watch her official 1-on-1 below.

Congratulations are in order for our Noble Queen of the Philippines-Visayas Cristina Gonzales Romualdez for winning the top title of Noble Queen of the Universe 2022 during the Coronation Event held at the ザ・プリンス パークタワー東京/東京プリンスホテル The Prince Park Tower Tokyo/Tokyo Prince Hotel.
A well-deserved win, I must say!
Alongside Thailand and Indonesia, Vietnam is one of the most aggressive countries in building up hype for their delegate to the 71st Miss Universe. And Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Châu is riding along swimmingly with all the efforts that her organizers and countrymen are doing to make constant noise about her preparations – including the short stint in the Philippines for the training with Caloy Buendia. Her airport send-off alone was a joyous mob of sorts that showed just how passionate the Vietnamese are about their representative.
As an armchair judge, where will you put Ngọc Châu on the list of contenders for the crown? Does she have what it takes to upend the other strong ladies who are taking the top tier spots in pre-arrival choices?
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
In an intimate chapel wedding, Miss Universe Philippines 2021 2nd Runner-Up Steffi Pearson Aberasturi tied the knot with fiancé Karl Vincent Arcenas.
Now go forth and enjoy marital bliss❣️ 😘

If the Philippines is sending a half-Italian Celeste Cortesi to the 71st Miss Universe, then Italy is pushing for a half African/German Virginia Stablum for the same competition.
An Italian model who stands 5’9”, Virginia is signed up with Elite Model Management Miami. And you know what that means. She is a runway and print professional who knows how to work all her photos excellently. That quality, though, is not of prime consideration in Miss Universe. Does she have the transformational leadership skills the new owner is looking for in a winner?
We’ll see next month in NOLA.
And our Noble Queen is off to Japan!
Noble Queen of the Universe – Visayas 2022 Cristina Gonzalez Romualdez departed for Tokyo to represent the country in the upcoming Noble Queen of the Universe coronation rites on Dec 29 at the Tokyo Prince Hotel.
Do us proud! 🇵🇭
