You guys might wonder why I included only four ladies in the photo grid above. For the purpose of the subject of this blog entry, I skipped on Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados because the Miss Universe franchise is no longer with BPCI (so technically, the end of her reign will still be dependent on the finalized date of Miss Universe Philippines 2020 – on the other side – regardless of whether she crowns her successor or not). I also did not include Bb. Pilipinas Grand International Aya Abesamis because she formally assumed the title just last January 19, 2020.
And so, that leaves us with Bb. Pilipinas International 2019 Atty. Bea Patricia Magtanong, Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2019 Resham Ramirez Saeed, Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2019 Emma Tiglao and Bb. Pilipinas Globe 2019 Leren Mae Bautista.
The Bb. Pilipinas 2019 Coronation Night was held June 9 last year. And with the continuing uncertainties brought about by the COVID19 global pandemic and ECQ, the overall feasibility of holding the finals of Bb. Pilipinas 2020 anytime soon will also be affected. The constant movement of dates could not be helped. Even if everything has been reset for June, the possibility of scrapping this year’s finals altogether still looms in the horizon.
Thus, it bears reasonable logic that Patch, Resham, Emma and Leren are bound to have the longest Bb. Pilipinas reigns ever, unless BPCI is brave enough to have Bb. Pilipinas 2020 staged by early third quarter. Should that happen, the 1994 winners will still be the longest-reigning queens since they were crowned October, 1993 (adjusted earlier due to the hosting of Miss Universe 1994 in Manila) and relinquished their crowns March, 1995 (a period of one year and five months roughly). And Patch will only be the second longest reigning Bb. Pilipinas International (there were no BBP Supranational, BBP Intercontinental and BBP Globe titles yet during 1994).
Now if the 2020 edition will significantly move forward to early 2021 or even beyond the first quarter, then the foursome will be the record holders. I don’t want to look at things going that far, though.
As they say in Pilipino, “…idaraos o itatawid ang patimpalak sa pinakamaagang petsa na wala nang magiging malawakang problema sa bansa.” As to when, only a coronavirus-free period can tell.
For now, let me leave you with a photo of Gazini Ganados who was nominated by Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach to do the “See A Smile, Send A Smile Challenge” of Smile Train Philippines for all our frontliners.
