The Sports Challenge Finalists
One of them will win the Sports Fast-Track
During yesterday’s Sports Challenge of Miss World Philippines 2017 at the Victoria Sports Tower in QC, the 35 candidates were divided into 5 groups of seven and competed in an assortment of sports and physical activities that tested the endurance and sportsmanship of each one. The events went from shooting basketball hoops to kicking footballs to properly performing sit-ups and leg squats to swimming relays. In the end, one team – the World Warriors – prevailed over the rest as each of their members were named finalists for the fast-track event. They are Ethel Abellanosa, Cynthia Thomalla, Glyssa Perez, Shawntel Cruz, Veronica Villones, Joanna Rabe and Nikki Deveza.
The whole activity was hosted by Miss World Philippines 2015 Hillarie Parungao and GM Bessie Besana. Below is a video of the winning team’s group cheerleading performance prior to the physical tests.
Janela with her mom Sol
Last Monday, normannorman.com (Joy Arguil and I) spent quality time with Miss World Philippines 2017 Candidate Janela Joy Cuaton (along with mom Sol
) over lunch where we discussed her journey in the pageant and how she wants to use it as a platform for her ongoing “Fashion meets Passion” advocacy to help rehabilitate Igang Elementary School in the province of Masbate.
This beautiful lass explains her BWAP project even more during the one-on-one interview below.
Here are additional images of Janela as photographed by Joy Arguil for normannorman.com before the interview.
During lunch yesterday, Miss World Philippines 2017 Janela Joy Cuaton – along with her parents and sister – scheduled a meet-and-greet with members of the pageant press to drum up support for her bid for the national competition. At The Stockpile Bar in Ortigas CBD, the beautiful lass presented herself with the better-than-usual charm and beauty that impressed all the guests even more.
You will have to watch out for my one-on-one interview with Janela soon. This is where she will discuss her BWAP platform and advocacy for Miss World Philippines 2017 and how she plans to stand out even more in the contest.

Miss World Philippines 2017 Candidate Jona Sweett
With the Ati kids of Aklan
Miss World Philippines 2017 Candidate #6 Jona IliSweett is representing her Province of Aklan in the competition. And from this place – known for having Boracay as its most popular destination – stems her Beauty With A Purpose Project geared towards looking out for the Ati Komunidad
(Aetas) children and families who are in danger of being left out in the cold and displaced from the small piece of land they call their home. She wants to push for their protection as well.

Miss World Philippines 2017 Candidate Zara Carbonell and her father (actor) Cris Villanueva
Consider it a small advantage to enter a national beauty pageant being tagged initially as the daughter of a film/TV actor (Cris Villanueva
). That is what Zhaniethia Antoinette Carbonell Villanueva – or Zara Carbonell – is experiencing at the moment. But that should change the minute you learn about this Miss World Philippines 2017 Official Candidate’s personal achievements and qualifications.
The 24 year-old graduate of De La Salle University – Taft is already an accomplished host for Color Manila Nationwide who does TV commercials while fulfilling her travel desires via a VLog titled “In Zee’s Shoes” where she has covered Denmark, Paris, Malaysia and Phuket so far.
All in the family now – brother Gian, mother Zhar and father Cris
Prior to that, Zara was an active student during her years at school. She was a cheerleader for Colegio San Agustin’s Red and Gold Boosters all the way to DLSU Pep Squad Dancers. Her gymnastic struts stretch to regular fitness interests in Soccer, Muay Thai and Boxing. And if that’s not enough, she also did a few soap opera guestings whenever she has time free from undergraduate studies to do so.
Zara doesn’t hide the fact that she has always dreamt of becoming a beauty queen. Aside from getting the potential platform to move ahead with her planned advocacies as an individual, she also wants to establish her own identity. She hopes to fulfill this objective with Miss World Philippines 2017. Below is her brief video encouraging support for her bid.
The title of this entry is the answer Laura Lehmann gave to the final question I asked of her during our brief video interview during the Miss World Philippines 2017 Press Presentation last Monday at New World Makati Hotel.
I asked her to choose between Sanya, China and Bolivia as obvious references to the host countries of Miss World 2017 and Reina Hispanoamericana 2017. Of course, she knows what title she is clearly gunning for and that is the #1 spot itself.
Hear her now talk about how she missed the pageant scene, as well as the “P.R.E.P.” advocacy that she wants to further expand should the platform be served on her plate come September 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Teresita Ssen “WynWyn” Marquez during the Miss World Philippines Press Presentation
Candidate #9 was definitely in her best elements during the Miss World Philippines 2017 Press Presentation held yesterday afternoon at the New World Hotel in Makati City. And the minute I briefly cornered her for a quick photo op with, my immediate question was “what is your game plan for this one, Wyn?
Her plain answer? “I will do my best to win!”
From that line alone, you can tell that Teresita Ssen Marquez is dead set in gunning for the biggest crown at stake. Everyone in the audience could not hide their amazement at how she presented herself in those blue Bench Body two-piece swimsuits. She nailed her every move and made sure that her poses are perfectly captured from the best angles.
Wyn prepared for this without a doubt. And if her competitors don’t keep up, then she will easily zoom higher and never let up.
Your thoughts, dear readers?
