According to my reliable source in Bangkok, these two ladies are the most popular for the Thais. They are the considered early pre-arrival frontrunners.

By walking for Designer Sherri Hill in New York Fashion Week, Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray has accomplished something big considering her status as a contestant for Miss Universe 2018. Previously, we have seen the titleholders themselves – like Pia Wurtzbach, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters and Olivia Culpo – do the runway for named designers after they have won the big crown.
But instead of reading too much into her participation, let us be happy that she got the break which comes on the heels of yesterday’s blog about Kelsey Merritt getting booked as one of the angels in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2018.

“On a long night of competition which saw over 20 other young women vying for the coveted crown, Maddison walked away with the title and over $1 million in cash and prizes.
In addition to the crown, Maddison took home the sectional prizes for best in swimwear, best in evening gown, most photogenic and most active on social media.
The 19-year-old who was crowd favourite from the get-go, sealed her place in the top three during the question and answer segment when she said her inexperience was her best quality.
Maddison explained that at 19 years old, her youth allows her the opportunity to face each situation as a challenge as she rarely knows what to expect.
Her answer triggered thunderous applause.
She will represent Jamaica in the global Miss Universe pageant in November.
Kayla Smith and Khadijah Anderson rounded out the top three with Anderson placing second and Smith third.”
Here is another double-hyphenated delegate for Miss Universe (much like Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters last year), and she also happens to be the first woman of colour to win the Miss Universe Great Britain.
She is Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers, a 25 year-old dreadlocked beauty who hails from the British Territory of Anguilla. She is also a competitive athlete in heptathlon. Academics-wise, she is a Law graduate of the University of Birmingham and an aspiring barrister (a lawyer with specialist skills in representing clients in court or in a negotiation and advising on court processes).

“It’s really humbling and I think it’s also a privilege for me to become the first Black woman who is crowned Miss Universe Great Britain. I believe that this is the direction that the pageant has been going in for the last couple of years because Britain is a diverse nation, we are a multicultural society and it is time that that diversity is seen on a stage where other young Black girls and girls of all ethnicities can see that this is something for everybody not just some of us.”

The video above of top Thai MUA Bryan Tan is in their language. So I sought my contact in Bangkok (who is a pageant follower) to have the video summarized for its important points. Suffice it to say that, the one-minute video of Catriona right after the announcement of Bangkok, Thailand as host city of Miss Universe 2018 was more than enough to jump start a sudden rise in popularity for her. In fact, the Thais are reportedly switching their support from their Sophida Kanchanarin to our Miss Universe Philippines 2018.
Here are the rough translations in bullet form:
– He likes the strategy of Miss Philippines and he thinks Cat is No. 1 for Miss Universe 2018. Cat can win the crown as Thais are moved by the video.
– First after the video of Catriona was released, it gained huge popularity among Thai supporters such that she already has a huge fan base.
– most of the Thais appreciate not only her beauty but her will and hunger to win. They appreciate the hardwork.
– Thai fans see that there are prettier candidates but Catriona is someone they can look up to. And they are eagerly awaiting for her arrival in November.
– Bryan is wowed by the preparation of the Philippines and sees our bet as a good tactician. But one thing that he is concerned about is if MUO will see Catriona as too prepared and rehearsed. Anything too much won’t be good.

My Thai contact added that the second most popular pre-arrival candidate is Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers. And she is being seen as the biggest threat to our bet. Running third in popularity is Angela Ponce of Spain, although the mixed reactions to her candidacy is still very much prevalent.

Miss Universe is an international beauty pageant which has a long-standing history, providing memorable experience that includes reputation and creating once-in-a-life-time history for contestants. The competition draws people’s attention and is one of the competition getting the most viewers around the world.
