It may be a virtual pageant. But the organizers of Miss Philippines Earth were still able to negotiate the TV airing of its 2020 edition on GMA-7 on July 5 at 10am.
From what I understand, the entire finals will be pre-recorded a full day before the telecast. So the challenge now is how to prevent spoilers from seeping out of the closely-guarded filming.
In this report from Marah Ruiz of GMA Network, everything is now confirmed.
For the first time in its 20-year history, Miss Philippines Earth will be holding its 2020 pageant online.
The much-awaited coronation ceremony will be aired exclusively on GMA on July 5 at 10:00 am.
After the telecast, the pageant will also be streamed via GMA Network’s official website, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a few of the pageant’s activities have been held via Facebook Live.
These include competitions for talent, long gown, beachwear, and sportswear, as well as pre-judging for beauty, figure, form, and poise.
A few more are scheduled to be held online like the competition for casual and cultural wear, as well as pre-judging for intelligence and environmental awareness.
Outgoing Miss Philippines Earth Janelle Tee will pass the crown to one of the 33 beauty queen hopefuls vying to be Miss Philippines Earth 2020.
Clint Bondad – who is now a TV actor in an upcoming GMA-7 teleserye with Jennylym Mercado and Gabby Concepcion – was cornered by entertainment correspondent MJ Marfori about the breakup with Miss Universe Catriona Gray.
Allow me to share with you a blog entry about the recent GMA-7 “I-Witness” documentary presented by Howie Severino on “Ang Unang Reyna” (or “The First Queen”) who happens to be Purificacion Garcia Villanueva of Arevalo, Iloilo City. At the age of 22, she was crowned as the very first “Queen of the Manila Carnival” back in 1908. She is a writer responsible for several books that ranged in subjects from cooking, women’s cooperative, women’s suffrage and more.
Do watch the interesting docu below with special cameos of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and my friend, UP Professor Wendell Capili.
It was a long process but we all had a good time pre-judging the forty (40) Official Candidates of Miss Millennial Philippines 2018 on the daily noontime show “Eat Bulaga” of GMA-7. Along with MU2010 4th Runner-Up Venus Raj, Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1997 Abbygale Arenas, Popular Vlogger Dwaine Woolley, PAL’s Cezanne Villafuerte and PotenCee’s Ayne Rili, I really enjoyed the more than 3 hours spent assessing the young ladies.
Hopefully, the best of the group will zoom ahead to the Top 10 come Finals Day on Saturday, October 27 at the Kia Theater Araneta Center.
Good luck to everyone!

With this latest endorsement of Megan, she continues to prove that there is a good life after winning the blue crown in Bali last 2013. She is also the lead star in the GMA-7 Teleserye “The Stepdaughters” which is doing well in the ratings. I was in a close huddle with Mario Dumaual of ABS-CBN and Lhar Santiago of GMA-7 during the Press Presentation of the Mr. & Ms. Republic of the Philippines 2017/2018 Official Candidates earlier. The Kapamilya correspondent was quick in telling me that he has already been calling me twice but no answer. I was busy covering the event so my iPhone was on silent mode. His question came in fast.
“Is it true that the Miss Supranational franchise is moving to another organization? And I heard its going to be both Miss and Mister Supranational?”
I fell silent.
I have been sounded off more than a few times in the past few weeks about the rumor. And I am not confirming anything right now. I don’t want to preempt any kind of formal announcements from either parties – where the franchise will depart from and where it will make a landing soon after.
By now, some of you – dear readers – are already well aware of the details of the alleged transfer. And I am certain that you most likely know more than what is stored inside my head.
What I clearly can say is that a Press Conference is being scheduled within the coming weeks. By the alleged new owner/s, that is. I cannot push the envelope any further and divulge more specific infos.
P.S. This topic should keep you busy till my next “In the Spotlight” entry tomorrow morning.
Don’t look now, but the young lady some people are egging on to join Bb. Pilipinas 2018 is currently in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands representing the country in The 11th Asian International Supermodel Contest which will have its finals tomorrow.
GMA-7 Contract Artist Klea Pineda – a tall looker at 1.77m – is hoping that the competition will open more opportunities for international modelling. There was supposed to be another Filipina competing there – Koreen Medina – but passport problems prevented the latter from going abroad.
Looks like the Philippine spotlight will remain solely on Klea. Let’s hope she does well so that she can be further encouraged to give the nationals a try – if not 2018, then 2019 perhaps?

I dare not to come up with a blog entry in Spanish because I don’t want to venture into using Google Translate in doing so. But in just one short statement, I can sum up my assessment on Reina Hispanoamericana-Filipinas 2017 Teresita Ssen “Wyn” Marquez – “Ella está lista para Bolivia”. She is ready for Bolivia inspite of the short time preparing for the mission up ahead. She is definitely busy absorbing as much of the Spanish language as she can so that she can at least manage to do quick conversations in the same and not get thrown under the bus all the time. Her wardrobe is definitely being given much attention to, just as her pre-arrival photoshoots (like the ones in this post taken by Rosvic Castro) are coming in succession to build up the momentum for her fight.
In the meantime, do watch the featured episode on GMA-7’s “Tunay Na Buhay” (Real Life) where she chronicles her pageant participations.

Your thoughts about Wyn, dear readers?
Just when you thought that you’re filled to the brim with national beauty contests sprouting left and right, here comes Eat Bulaga on GMA Network which has just started the search for Miss Millenial Philippines 2017. No, this is not one of those gimmicky segment fillers of the popular noontime show. It is actually a proper beauty pageant participated in by close to forty (40) candidates who won in their respective provinces plus a few others who have already participated in other national competitions such as Dianne Lacayanga of Ilocos Norte & Jaila Ragindin of Bataan in Mutya ng Pilipinas and Sofia Panapanaan in Miss Philippines Earth. The focus is on local tourism and how each participant will enthusiastically promote her place of origin while presenting herself as the best version of the female millenial for 2017.
Below is a photo grid of the candidates.
Below is a video of their introductions during the noontime show.

The big difference in this pageant is the candidates’ frequent exposures on nationwide TV with the different stages of the competition televised daily. And for sure, the supporters of each of them will come in droves to cheer and make noise all the way.
