The #Binibini fever has not started to simmer yet, but trust the beautiful Diana Mackey to make it boil once the screenings and busy schedules start kicking in.

Miss Universe Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez and her National Costume for Miss Universe created by Axel Que:
“Posted @withregram • @axlaxelque BAKUNAWA FINAL FORM: Golden Lunar Dragon
I wanted to continue my narrative of the Bakunawa, and I’m taking my artistic license to a whole new level. The initial version was a bit restrained, it was more of a Drake ( video game jargon used for a dragon’s stage of evolution ) , which is basically mid-life cycle. I wanted to take everyone on this journey of growth and maturity, not just for the costume itself, but also as a metaphor for Bea’s personal evolution.
I am proud to present my Bakunawa’s final form: The Golden Lunar Dragon. This is a personal, hypothetical envisioning of what the Bakunawa would look like had it succeeded in devouring the last moon. I chose gold to render the whole piece in because aside from its divine beauty, it is considered as the perfect element ( because it’s chemically one of the least reactive ), and to hopefully imbue this characteristic to the wearer, much like an enchanted armor.
I believe that this final rendition of the Bakunawa, will serve as the perfect conclusion to this design chapter in my life. I’ve poured so much of myself into engineering this garment, and I am filled with so much joy to be able to share this project of unbridled artistry and craftsmanship. I couldn’t think of a better punctuation.

“Have you noticed how time slows down
When she passes by in her white feather gown
How the Air holds its breath
The water is mercury as she passes by.
And so she sails with ethereal grace
Unaware of her beauty in this watery place
Then, she sees me and glides my way
And sit’s besides me to make my day.”

Rabiya in her NatCos
According to a very reliable source, the head piece (made by Manny Halasan) was not worn by Miss Universe Philippines Rabiya Mateo because it was found to be too big for her head.
That’s all I can say for now.
But below are photos of what should have been worn aside from the Rocky Gathercole flag-inspired creation – earrings and brooch included.
Watch my exclusive interview with Fashion Designer and Jewelry Maker Manny Halasan where he carefully talks about his contribution to Miss Universe Philippines Rabiya Mateo’s (Rocky Gathercole) National Costume for the 69th Miss Universe.
I can already envision the final ensemble to be out-of-this-Universe! Knowing Rocky’s aesthetics, it should be. And with the inputs of Manny, it will provide the pageant side of the design I reckon.

The Live Coronation Event of Miss Kuyamis 2021 went without a hitch as the organizers were able to stage a Finals which – even if a far cry from the all-out grand staging of the past four editions – was still successfully completed to the delight of everyone who followed the competition.
Congratulations to Dannah Joy R. Tempra of Jasaan for winning the title. She will now get the chance to represent the province in a national pageant to be announced soon.
Her court includes:
1st Runner-Up Katheryn Tan Guipetacio of Sugbongcogon
2nd Runner-Up Princess Nicole Segundo of Naawan
3rd Runner-Up Angeliza Navajo of Claveria
4th Runner-Up Alyssa Marie Cordova of Gitagum
The judges- Karan Singhdole, Angelee delos Reyes, Leren Mae Bautista, Manny Halasan and Carlo Pasion
I was actually invited by the LGU to be one of the judges this year. But due to personal travel restrictions I had to follow due to my senior mom who stays with me, I had to pass up on the chance and instead, asked my friend – Designer Manny Halasan – to take over. After all, he is my namesake. (I am Norman, he is Normannie)
Kudos to the entire Province of Misamis Oriental, Governor Bambi Emano and the ExploreMisOr Tourism Office!
