(Note: In the wrap-up below, I included only the pageants that are either established or fairly recognizable.)
With unfinished businesses in both Miss Universe and Miss World, the performance of the country in international pageantry this 2022 cannot be definitive. But with whatever has been accomplished, the period is dotted with placements galore and a sprinkling of wins in competitions that are considered minor or less than prestigious at best.
Consider these line-up of outputs:
1. Miss Eco International winner Kathleen Paton
2. Miss Global winner Shane Tormes
3. Miss International Queen winner Fuschia Anne Ravena
4. Miss Supermodel Worldwide winner Alexandra Mae Rosales
5. Noble Queen of the Universe winner Cristina Gonzalez Romualdez (left photo)
6. Miss Cosmoworld winner Meiji Cruz (right photo)
7. Miss Tourism Metropolitan International Angelica Pantaliano
8. Miss Tourism World 1st Runner-Up Justine Felizarta
9. Miss Eco Teen 1st Princess Francesca Beatriz McLelland
10. Miss Grand International 5th Runner-Up Roberta Tamondong
11. Miss International Top 15 Hannah Arnold
12. Miss Earth Top 20 Jenny Ramp
13. Miss Supranational Top 20 Alison Black
14. Miss Intercontinental Top 20 Gabrielle Basiano
15. The Miss Globe Top 15 Chelsea Fernandez
On the male side, the collective tally is not bad – already a generous assessment considering how the country has been doing in the past 5 years or so. If only Mister World was staged this year, then Kirk Bondad might be leading the field:
1. Mister Beauté International winner John Ernest Tanting
2. Man Hot Star International winner Jovy Bequillo
3. MR Universe winner El Cid Camacho (left photo)
4. Manhunt International Male Supermodel 1st Runner-Up Joshua de Sequera
5. Mister Grand International 1st Runner-Up Kristzan delos Santos
6. Mister International 4th Runner-Up MJ Ordillano
7. Mr Gay World Top 7 Finalist Jhapett Raymundo
8. Caballero Universal Top 10 Andre Cue
9. Mister Supranational Top 20 RaÉd Fernandéz Al-Zghayér
10. World Fitness Supermodel 2nd Runner-Up Mark Jero Bagaporo
11. World Fitness Supermodel 4th Runner-Up Edviro Fuentes Jr.
In spite of the fact that Philippine representatives pride themselves to be one of the most well-prepared in the world, we cannot expect to claim victories (or #1 finishes all the time). As the saying goes, “you win some, you lose some” (or lose more, if you will). The role of fate (or destiny) will always be in play however which way we look at it. Let us just be grateful of achievements as they come, and in whatever shape or size. After all, humility is a value that should always be present in everyone.
Looking forward to 2023 with enthusiasm!
Next stop: The 71st Miss Universe!
