Alongside Thailand and Indonesia, Vietnam is one of the most aggressive countries in building up hype for their delegate to the 71st Miss Universe. And Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Châu is riding along swimmingly with all the efforts that her organizers and countrymen are doing to make constant noise about her preparations – including the short stint in the Philippines for the training with Caloy Buendia. Her airport send-off alone was a joyous mob of sorts that showed just how passionate the Vietnamese are about their representative.
As an armchair judge, where will you put Ngọc Châu on the list of contenders for the crown? Does she have what it takes to upend the other strong ladies who are taking the top tier spots in pre-arrival choices?
Lahat ng mga Miss Vietnam who won in the international pageant (Miss Earth, Miss Globe, Miss Grand International at Miss Intercontinental) are not beauty queen material. The beauty of face and figure are all meh but they won even if their performances are not superlative. Parang nka-jackpot lang silang lahat. They all look like Miss Philippines from 2000-2009, but Miss Philippines never won with that kind of beauty.
I’m not questioning their male counterpart though. Lahat ay napaka-deserving with their respective titles.
I got, in that red Departure ensemble, a frequency of Praveenar Singh & Natasha Joubert tangential… Two wave forms but at right angles to each other, not really in sync.
This face could~should have won LONG ago, back in the day when Thailand & Japan got their first MU crowns (1950’s ba ‘yun?)… May we see a MIXED-RACE Ms. Vietnam in the near future, po? We’re getting, year in & out, a predictable~consistent look.
Video was of her casual look, just before application of cosmetics. A bit of Chaling, there!
My point~verdict : Nope, not really~necessarily. Or as one of us would say, “next”….
Vietnam would have to nab either the Blue or Long Beach Pearl crowns first before the Force for Good. But their strategy at the lower tier is commendable! They already have practically everything we got – The Globe, Eco-Teen, & Intercontinental (sila sumunod kay Obenita, right?) come to mind of late – plus one that has stayed elusive for Pinoys… BEEP!

‘Ah, basta. I’m not getting the vibe that will surpass the feat of H’Hen Nie. Until I get that, ❤
She reminds me of the beauty of Carlene Aguilar 2005
In Bb 2005 , if Carlene and Gionna switched crowns , Carlene to MU and Gionna to MW , & with Precious to MI , that year Bb 2005 would have been one of the most successful years for Bb !
Gonna would clap in mw. It’s pretty obvious in 2005 that Gianna was SMA’s favorite from the get go. Come on, winning best in swimsuit with her body back then over Carlene?!????? Are you kidding me?
I think it is about time for Vietnam to bring home the crown. Expect our support. Good luck Miss Vietnam!
My possible Top 20 in Random Order

I think she’s alright. Her glammed photos remind me of my favorite MUP Maxima aka 4M. She doesn’t give me the magnetizing allure of the former Miss Vietnam during Cat’s year.
What I truly admire about Vietnam is the high fashion wardrobe and styling their teams prepare for their candidates. There’s something about them that we can take and learn in terms of simplicity and choice of fabric. Case in point, her departure gown is superb.
I doubt she’ll Crack the top 20 and if she does, it might be on fan votes.
I’d rather have Miss Cambodia than her in the semis.
I agree with you about their fashion sense. Always high level (alta)! Anyare sa ‘tin? We’re just never consistent.
I like Vietnam at ayokong maging negative kahit sino pa Ang representative/candidate nila. Tingin ko Kasi ay sobrang underdog Sila pero I can see power from them. Hindi Rin Sila Basta Basta. Para Silang sleeping giant. Yun lungs 🫁 ahihihihihi
It seems to me Miss Universe 2022 beauty pageant will be flooded with gorgeous women but sad to say almost of the contestants are focusing their time on their physical appearance not on their advocacy project. I have seen only few contestants are really working so hard on their advocacy project. I don’t know any advocacy project of Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Châu and the only thing Miss Vietnam accomplished so far is being the Top 10 Finalist at Miss Supranational 2019 and she got the special award Miss Supranational Asia. My crystal ball say she has slim chance in winning the crown.
Bets and most fans don’t seem to realize that MU is evolving. And the evolution is market-driven, spearheaded by the Millennials and GenZs, whose consumption preferences favor businesses with advocacies compatible with their values. The new ownership, the new branding tagline that focuses on the outward manifestation of inner beauty, the new crown monickered “Force for Good”– all these jumpstarts a new beauty paradigm that aligns with the market landscape. As with almost anything, the new generation is challenging traditional concepts, including the almost monolithic beauty ideologies. Diversity, inclusivity and other beYoutiful concepts– who would have thought that these would prequalify transgenders, married women, thirty-ish, physically-challenged, and vertically-challenged to hallowed grounds of beauty contests?
Yes. Spoiler alert.
With the new Thai-owner will there be an onslaught of Asian countries flooding the top 20/10 in a similar fashion of what the Latina contingency used to do during Trump’s ownership?
Philippines, India, Thailand and Indonesia have been consistent reps across the Big 4 pageants over the past five years. Very very curious.

Oops, add Vietnam on that list. Their 2022 rep is definitely one to look at.
Sure Top 20.. possible Top 10…
Top 5 would be a long-shot but not impossible.

Another strong contender in this very competitive batch! I see her making it through the first cut, at least.
A sleeper threat from the Asia group … keep a close eye !
