The Pride of Balagtas, Bulacan in Bb. Pilipinas 2017 – Sarah Asido, your Binibini 14

When Sarah Jireh Cruz Asido first joined Bb. Pilipinas last 2014, she was still a part of the Team JDV camp under John dela Vega. She was 23 years old back then.

This year, the Balagtas, Bulacan native will return for her second and last attempt at a Bb. Pilipinas crown as a member of Kagandahang Flores.

So how does she feel now about her second appearance as a Binibini?

“I am beyond blessed for getting this opportunity again. I have prayed and waited three long years for this. I waited for God’s yes before I decided to join again. Everything really fell into place. During my realization process, I had injuries in my foot and that almost discouraged me to get back on the pageant track. I was in so much pain but I know that this is just a test of faith and determination on how strong my desires are. The Lord places me in hard situations to see how tough and willing I am to go beyond everything just to fulfill my dream of a crown. This time, I am stronger, wiser, and a determined winner. Yes I am because the Lord is with me and I am so blessed for whatever injuries I had, I am still here.”

Sarah is a Bulakenya who reigned as Binibining Bulacan Turismo 2013. She went back to teaching after Bb. Pilipinas 2014. She handles the subjects of Personal Development and Philippine Politics & Governance. A proud Thomasian and a Licensed Teacher, she graduated from UST with a Bachelor degree in Secondary Education, major in Social Studies, while doubling it up with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences. She has done several hosting jobs in the province as well as becoming an active member of a movement that caters to people who are in need. One of the projects she handles was entertainment by holding variety/game shows in the different barangays. She also aims to be an inspirational/motivational speaker. She enjoys talking to people immensely.


An active Volleyball trainer, Sarah’s main advocacy at the moment is centered on the Lingkod LGBT for the 1st District of Bulacan.

These six beauties come from the smaller pageant training groups for Bb. Pilipinas 2016

 
We are already familiar with them – the four individuals who have formed their own smaller camps to train and polish ladies for Bb. Pilipinas 2016. And mind you, it really takes a lot of effort and sacrifices to even get through the tough screening of the nationals. So I give my well-deserved kudos for entering two (2) Official Candidates each to:

John Dela Vega of Team JDV who has Jeslyn Santos and Christianne Ramos making it.

RL de Leon Lacanienta of R-L’s Angels for getting in Angelique de Leon and Daziella Gange.

The siblings Jontie & Nickky Martinez of Galatea for stepping it up for Jennyline Carla Malpaya and Leonalyn dela Cruz

Truth be told, each one of them can give really good fights in the competition despite being the Davids to the Goliaths of Aces & Queens and KF. During last Friday’s screenings, in fact, Angelique de Leon (for her wit and joie-de-vivre), Jeslyn Santos (for her much improved version) and Jennyline Carla Malpaya (for her very exotic features and color) registered very well among members of the panel.

Also, you just cannot simply count out Daziella Gange who is Miss Heritage Pilipinas 2015 (she represented us and placed 1st Runner-Up during Miss Heritage in South Africa), Christianne Ramos who is Miss Charity Queen Philippines 2015 (she represented us during Miss Charity Queen International 2015 in Taiwan) and Leonalyn dela Cruz, a Professional Model who has vastly gained a lot of experience on the ramp to strut her way more confidently.

Who will shine bright? JDV, R-L or Galatea?

Jean Tumang: the story of a tall and humble Binibini-to-be

This tall lady from Capas, Tarlac has a nice back story to tell

 
This 5’11” stunner from Capas, Tarlac is next in Team JDV’s line-up for Bb. Pilipinas 2016. Her name is Jean Lacsina Tumang. I will give the quick spotlight to her mentor – John dela Vega – now to describe the statuesque beauty in his own words:

Hi Norman. This is Jean Tumang, 21, from Capas, Tarlac, 5’11. Bb. Pilipinas first-timer. She is a Tourism graduate who is supposed to work for Philippine Airlines (PAL) as on-ground crew, but had to let go of the opportunity for her pageant dreams. She comes from humble beginnings. Her mother and father sell vegetables and stuff in the palengke (public market). And they also raise ducks. She grew up helping her parents raise them which are eventually sold for additional income.

There is always something about really tall young women that attract me to them. For starters, they easily stand out physically. And if they do deliver on the promise (good communication skills, charm and all) it comes easy to develop further fondness.

I want to see how Jean Tumang will register to me in person. She could be someone to look out for in tomorrow’s Bb. Pilipinas screenings. 🙂

More than an eye Candy, she wants to be a Binibini

Here comes Candy del Castillo from Team JDV

 
If all teachers would look like Candy del Castillo, then expect the students to score perfect attendance records in class. You see, this Team JDV girl graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and is currently practicing her most noble profession in a private school. For now, though, she is setting aside the lesson plans (and chalks and blackboards) to fulfill a sweet dream of joining the nationals and becoming a Binibini in Bb. Pilipinas 2016 which will start screening tomorrow afternoon at the Monet Ballroom of Novotel Manila Araneta Center.

And why not? She is 5’8″ tall with a whistle-bait figure and facial features that are very pleasing to the eyes. She was also runner-up during Reyna ng Bulacan 2013 where she represented her hometown of Bocaue. But don’t expect her to stop at just being a pretty woman walking down the corridors or the canteen of the academic institution where she teaches in. There are grander plans ahead being plotted by Candy herself.

And soon, she will find out if her fate has something special in store. Being Official Candidate? Better. She wants to win a crown, of course. 😉

Christianne Ramos is another Team JDV bet for Bb. Pilipinas 2016, I was told

 
You will remember Christianne “Ysh” Ramos as the Philippine representative to the Charity Queen International Pageant 2015 held in Kaoshiung, Taiwan last year. She was handpicked by franchise holder John dela Vega for that mission. And the international experience really served her well. She is now more confident of herself and was able to prove that she can stand side-by-side the other foreign delegates in the competition. She was even voted friendliest by all the candidates.

And this year, Ysh is ready to face another challenge in the nationals. She is said to be one of the entries of Team JDV for Bb. Pilipinas 2016. This 5’7″ Ateneo de Manila graduate with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies – who was once Blue Eagles Futsal Team Captain of the university – is ready to mix it up with the best of the best applicants to get one of the spots among the Official Candidates.

How far will Christianne Ramos bring her bid? We shall soon find out. The screenings will begin February 12 and she is prepping herself up very well.

She is Geisha Naganuma, a JDV girl for Bb. Pilipinas 2016

naganuma31 For more than the past month now, I have been featuring Bb. Pilipinas 2016 joiners from Aces & Queens and Kagandahang Flores. There were also two from R-L Angels (Aiza Faeldonia and Kisszel Malazarte) and two independents (Nichole Manalo and Jan Louise Abejero).

Time now to introduce you to one of the ladies from Team JDV, or John dela Vega, if you will. The camp has been extra protective of the identities of their bets (until now), but I understand where they are coming from.

The girl is Geisha Naganuma who is a Professional Model. She stands 5’9″ and was actually titleholder of Reyna ng Bulacan-Earth 2013 and Miss STI (where she graduated from). She also has a 23″ waistline.

This Bulakenya lass could be a scene stealer in the screenings. I know that JDV always has at least a few who can really surprise the panel. Will Geisha be one of them? 😉

Jeslyn Santos: back for a second serving of Bb. Pilipinas?

 
There were quite a few personal milestones that happened to Jeslyn Santos of Hagonoy, Bulacan from the time she joined Bb. Pilipinas last 2014 until now. In between, she joined and won Bb. Republica Filipina 2015. And following this, she was appointed by mentor John dela Vega to become the representative of the Philippines in the inaugural edition of Miss World Peace held in Hong Kong September of last year, and where she reached the semifinals.

This year, and after turning over the crown of Bb. Republica Filipina to her successor just recently, Jeslyn is reported to be making a second trip to Bb. Pilipinas. I kidded her in person about it, and she just gave me a meaningful smile. Must be true, I reckon. She is a far more prepared contender now compared to her first try. I’m interested to see how much she has really grown as a pageant competitor. After all, it doesn’t happen often that someone from my provincial hometown would step it up for the nationals.

Angela Lauren Fernando when she was Miss Philippines Earth Eco-Tourism 2010, and a part of Team JDV

 
Now this one I must admit I did not see coming from out of the fringes of my pageant radar. After all, her last beauty contest was way back in 2010 when she joined and placed in the elemental circle as Miss Philippines Earth Eco-Tourism. I reckon that Angela Lauren Fernando, M.D. spent the next years pouring her heart and brains to a Medical course at the University of Santo Tomas where she already graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree and will eventually take the necessary exams to become a fully-licensed practitioner (she is currently a post-Graduate International connected with Makati Medical Center.

Angela is 24 going 25 (this coming April) and still has enough time to focus on the rigorous demands of pageant training under her alleged new camp, Aces & Queens. You see, she was a John dela Vega ward back in the day when she took part in MPE. And the photos above are no longer updated (save for the solo shot below), honestly. So I am really interested to find out her new look and vibe as potential Binibini for Bb. Pilipinas 2016.

Is there a room big enough for this Doctor? Will she become the next Golda Soller or a prospective Lizbeth de Padua? We shall soon find out! 🙂

When Binibini 9 Joy Antonette Diaz was scouted by Team JDV’s John dela Vega for Bb. Pilipinas, there were raised eyebrows from a few snooty individuals who expected that the Fil-Am could have directly knocked on the doors of BPCI. After all, she is the niece of Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz who is thought to have enough clout to pull strings with Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta.

The girl did not push her luck that way, though. Instead, she opted to go through the whole process taking the long and winding route. She established her residency first, while starting month-after-month of training with John and the other wannabes. By the time she screened for this year’s batch, there were no doubts about her qualifications anymore, and she breezed through the different rounds until being called to the Top 40 Official Candidates.

I reckon that Joy knows where she stands in the competition. She will not brag about being a top pick for one of the crowns, but she will pin you down the minute she opens her mouth and expresses her mind with casual eloquence.

I’ve always thought of Joy as one of the Top 3 contenders from Team JDV (with Racquel Kabigting and Kenneth Santiago being the other two) and is just as capable of pulling an upset if the constantly-on-the-buzz ladies start falling by the wayside – not the most exciting scenario to hope for, but at least it gives the chance to prove that she is an ideal Binibini. 😉
