Sigrid with RL Lacanienta of RL’s Angels
Your Binibini 7 Sigrid Grace Flores of Catanduanes always looks glammed up and pageant-ready on the outside. But if you get to know her better, the kindness and genuine quality in her character are far more admirable. A part-time Missionary before getting immersed in this year’s nationals, she is part of Sons & Daughters Foundation which focuses on a number of charitable activities while encouraging people to be of selfless service to others in the process.
“My desire to be a Binibini and a queen is deeply rooted on three reasons. Firstly, my personal advocacy matches the mission and vision of BPCI that if given an opportunity, I want to collaborate with BPCI so together we can touch people’s lives one region at a time here in the Philippines. Also, I want to raise the bar for everyone in the Philippine pageant world that it is about time for beauty queens to show people that we are not mere beautiful faces but beautiful faces with good sincere hearts to offer. Lastly, I want to give my advocacy the podium it truly deserves. I am an advocate of philantrophic leadership. My vision is to help people who have the heart to start their own charitable movements but just happened to have limited or no support, resources and connections. The objective is to help create movements that are dedicated on loving people radically. So we can love on the entire world one movement at a time. These are the things that fuel my fire to go for the Binibining Pilipinas crown.”
Will this be her edge to perform well in the contest?
“The edge could be a deeper understanding of my purpose. I am a missionary and a philanthropist. I completed my missions course in Cambodia 2 years ago and I also have been involved in charitable works in the past 4 years. My heart has always been for love and service and for me that is the real spirit of a beauty queen. I long to be a language of hope and a representation of love to the people whose lives I can touch if crowned as Binibining Pilipinas. Knowing your life purpose is the first step toward living a truly conscious life. A life purpose provides us with a clear goal, a set finish line that you truly want to reach. This is my drive, this is my edge.”

Wanna see a return of Angelique de Leon to the Bb. Pilipinas stage?
At 26, Angelique Celine de Leon has only up to Bb. Pilipinas 2017 as her one final attempt to achieve the pageant glory that has escaped her grasp in 2014 and last year. And this lovely and articulate lady is being talked about as making the big move to a new camp – from RL to KF, I was told. Are you ready to see her third appearance at the Smart Araneta Coliseum this summer?
I’m game for Angelique de Leon 3.0. She has definitely leveled up from the first to the second. And this year could be her best ever.
Watch out, dear readers!

Binibini 3 Ria Rabajante (left) and Binibini 4 Renee Soraya Hassani: Will they bring honor to RL’s Angels on March 15?
‘RL’s Angels’ has been fielding beauties in the annual Bb. Pilipinas competition for more than a few years now. And so far, the luck of a magic placement has been eluding the junior camp.
With the launching of their brand-new logo (see above) courtesy of Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Official Candidate Angelique de Leon, will the tide change and favor one or both of their entries this year?
Binibinis 3 Ria Rabajante and 4 Renee Soraya Hassani are giving the other contenders a good fight. And it’s not just because these ladies want to do RL and his team of handlers, gym trainers and stylists proud. They also want to prove that they can register good performances even without the help of highly-established groups like Aces & Queens and Kagandahang Flores attached to their names.
Some pageant enthusiasts are saying that it’s going to be an uphill climb for as long as the camp has not yet paid enough dues (figuratively, of course) to be merited full-fledged honors by BPCI. But if you ask me, that doesn’t really apply 100% because previous titleholders like Mutya Johanna Datul and Krista Kleiner won their crowns as independents.

So what say you, dear readers? Will either Ria or Soraya shine bright on Sunday night? 🙂
The so-called RL's Angels: Ria Rabajante, Bence Bianzon, Sofia Gloria Mustonen and Pauline Quintas
Just like the near-excessive muddling up of topnotch candidates in this year’s Bb. Pilipinas, the number of beauty training camps has also increased to keep up the temperature of competition rising to boiling point levels. After Aces & Queens, Kagandahang Flores and Team JDV, here comes a fourth team wanting to lay its claim on fame and good reputation – and what an auspicious debut it could be looking at!
RL’s Angels. I’m not all too sure if this was coined by RL himself or by pageant-milling die-hards but the name should be changed if the fledgling group intends to make their appearance an annual thing. If you ask me, get rid of ‘Angels’ and just stick to R-L (which could stand for a number of meanings such as ‘Real Ladies’ or ‘Ravishing & Lovely’). But if I’m not mistaken, the man behind it all is a photographer named Ro-El Lacanienta.
If RL’s initial line-up is to be gauged, then he holds a lot of promise. His quartet of entries – Ria Rabajante, Bence Bianzon, Sofia Gloria Mustonem and Pauline Quintas – all made it to the OCs of 2013. That’s 4 out of 4, matching the stat percentage of A&Q with 13 out of 13. Not bad. Not bad at all. Of course, if we go by seniority, then there’s such a thing called ‘paying-one’s-dues-first’ before getting full accreditation to the club, so to speak.
So for now, I am doffing my hat to RL for an excellent first attempt in the big league of beauty camp business. But until he continues to produce outstanding ladies at least for the next two years just to veer away from being tagged as ‘flash-in-the-pan’, I would keep his status as ‘probationary’. Fair enough, right? 😉
