Left to right: Mutya Chairman Fred Yuson, Mutya Pilipinas 2019 Klyza Castro and Mutya President Cory Quirino
In an event that aims to celebrate the organization’s new vision of creating a better tomorrow where true beauty establishes the standard for an optimistic future, Mutya ng Pilipinas is finally returning after more than two full years of absence in the national pageantry scene.
Earlier today, a Press Conference was held inside CWC Interiors at the Ground Floor of Milestone in BGC.
Mutya ng Pilipinas Chairman Fred Yuson and President Cory Quirino presided over the event where they announced the Launch of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2022. If you will notice, the “ng” is back, signaling a return to its roots. A November, 2022 schedule has been set for this year’s Finals. Three titles will be handed out:
1) Mutya ng Pilipinas 2022 (the main title but with no pageant assignment yet since Miss Asia Pacific is still postponed this year)
2) Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2022 (appointed rep since the Malaysia-based pageant will have a September playdate)
3) Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Communities
Klyza Castro is now the longest-reigning Mutya ng Pilipinas titleholder
A surprise announcement was made by Mr. Yuson regarding the inaugural edition of Miss Mutya International
in 2023 – a pageant that will endeavor to assemble the best and most beautiful of Filipinas with foreign lineage as well as international delegates coming from different parts of the world. This effort will be akin to the Miss Maja International which established the “Maja” brand for several decades. “Mutya” will be the first Filipino-named and branded pageant.
This year’s theme for Mutya ng Pilipinas will revolve around inclusivity and sustainability, to go hand-in-hand with the “Shine Hometown Girl” catch phrase started back in 2019.
Just when everyone was engrossed with Miss Universe Philippines 2021, the country scored another win in the international level – this time for married women.
Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo, the former President of Mutya ng Pilipinas, was crowned Mrs. Tourism Universe 2021 – the highest honor during the virtual finals of the multi-titled Mrs. Tourism Pageant held in the country last Tuesday, August 3. She outclassed twenty (20) other candidates for the crown.
A mother of two boys and wife of businessman Richard Tamayo, she gave her 100% to the competition. In the process, she garnered a lion’s share of the special awards such as Best in Speech, Best in Talent, Best National Costume, Most Supportive Candidate and Most Viewed Mother.
Other titleholders in the said pageant are Mrs Tourism World Catherine Yogi (of Phil-Japan), Mrs Tourism International Monica Nugra of Ecuador, Mrs Tourism Earth Lisha Alencastre Nin of Peru and Mrs Tourism Globe Estelle Roche Kaye of Singapore. Thailand was originally scheduled to host the physical finals, but due to the pandemic, it had to be done virtually.
A Philippine Air Force Reservist, Hemilyn returned from a pageantry hiatus with much success. She is now ready to make her reign as productive and meaningful as possible, in keeping with the competition’s “A Mother Who Cares for the World” vision.
Congratulations from all of us at normannorman.com and Pageantry Norms! This is a well-deserved victory!
Now this post is no longer part of my #TurningPhenomenal Series because I have learned – from a reliable source – that she is indeed joining the dash for Miss Universe Philippines 2021.
Janela Joy Cuaton – a former Mutya ng Pilipinas holder – has remained low-key after taking part in Miss World Philippines 2017. This year, she plans to shine bright like never before.
Let’s welcome her back and see the beautiful transformation into a #phenomenalwoman.
Below was her profile video during MWP2017.
#TurningPhenomenal Series No. 8
Let’s go to Mindanao – Misamis Oriental to be exact – this time around.
Inspired by the Top 15 placement of Caroline Joy Veronilla during the inaugural edition of Miss Universe Philippines, the province is placing its bets this time around in another beautiful Misamisnon from the Municipality of Medina.
Chella Grace Falconer is a former Miss Kuyamis titleholder who has earned precious experiences in national pageantry via Mutya ng Pilipinas, Miss Millennial Philippines and the recently-concluded Miss Bikini Philippines where she placed 1st Runner-Up. Collectively, these stints strengthened her resolve to go for – what is considered – the most prestigious beauty competition in the country.
Show of hands. Who is ready to become a #PhenomenalWoman?
Fil-American Chella raises hers without reluctance.
#TurningPhenomenal Series No. 1:
There is always pressure when you cross over from one national pageant to another. But for this beautiful lady – Leren Mae M. Bautista – it will always be a good kind of pressure. After all, she has already collected Mutya Ng Pilipinas and Binibining Pilipinas crowns and one international title to her name. Going for a third in the nationals will certainly make her pageant career more glorious.
Age will not be a hindrance as well. She is and will still be 28 by the time Miss Universe Philippines 2021 is chosen. And might I add, a December 2021 potential playdate for the next Miss Universe is still safe. Her next birthday won’t be until January, 2022.
Mull over it. There is still time to ponder over things. No pressure even if there really is.
There are rumors in pageant circles that Bb. Pilipinas Globe 2019 Leren Mae Bautista is considering one more stab at national pageant glory via Miss World Philippines. If she indeed takes another plunge, the aim should be to win a crown better than the two already tucked under her belt (she was also Mutya ng Pilipinas years back).
Let’s see if she will make this move soon.

Former Mutya ng Pilipinas titleholder Ganiel Krishnan’s mind and heart are in harmony. And this is the time to pull out all the stops.
The World is waiting for her, and 2021 is the perfect time to do it.
