What are the chances of a back-to-back win for USA?
The sisterhood of back-to-back country victories in the history of Miss Universe is such a lonely group with only one member, Venezuela (courtesy of Dayana Mendoza and Stefania Fernandez back in 2008 and 2009). And if we adjust a bit and include those who won and skipped only one year before winning another (Maritza Sayalero in 1979 and Irene Saez in 1981) , the member will remain the same, Venezuela.
So will Erin Brady make history by winning Miss Universe 2013 and cuddling up with Olivia Culpo as only the second back-to-back country victors of the title? I have my reasonable doubts of that even happening. And certainly not in host city Moscow. While Miss USA is most qualified to come out #1 on November 9, chances are that the judges will gaze around different continents this year. Any place except North America or the US of A for that matter. It’s going to be bad for business if Donald Trump allows something like that to happen in this edition.
And how far do you think she will place? Well, your guess is as good as mine.
It's on this coming November 4, 9PM MSK
Miss Universe 2013 is introducing something new this year. It’s called “A Moment with Olivia Culpo”, a question-and-answer online activity with the reigning titleholder, much like a live chat. If there is a question or two you are itching to ask, then here’s your chance to go into Oksana Boyko mode and get her cornered.
It’s all happening in the pageant’s website this coming Monday, November 4 at 9:00PM MSK (Moscow Standard Time) or 1:00AM of November 5 for those in the Philippines.
Here’s a sample question I just might want to ask: Truthfully, what was running inside your head at that precise moment when it was only you and Janine Tugonon of the Philippines left standing before Miss Universe 2012 was announced?

In varying ETAs (estimated times of arrival), the 86 (eighty-six) anticipated delegates of Miss Universe 2013 will start arriving in Moscow to begin their individual missions with one common end goal: to become the successor of Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo.
Let’s see who will grab the initial flashes of interest and who will show fierceness right from the beginning.
Of course, I’m also interested in knowing who the roommate of Miss Philippines Ariella Arida (expected to fly in early in the evening) will be. I heard that Miss USA Erin Brady will be rooming with Miss Australia Olivia Wells (just like last year in Vegas). Do they always have to be placed together?
Anyways, the level of excitement is starting to heat up!

The last two women standing of MU2012, Janine (left) and Olivia.
Just before the Official Send-Off of Miss Universe Philippines 2013 Ara Arida happening later in the day, let’s backtrack a bit and watch the performance of Janine Tugonon during last year’s pageant when she came soooo close to winning the country’s 3rd Miss Universe crown.
Olivia managed to keep her poise during the slow-burning one-on-one.
When Russian reporter Oksana Boyko got the chance to interview Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo for the bi-weekly debate show Worlds Apart, little did the American titleholder realize that she was on to something much more challenging than she originally expected the one-on-one to be. It was like a beauty expose’ that literally placed her on the hot seat. Good thing she managed to keep her calm and composure all throughout.
Can you imagine how Donald Trump would have answered the same questions? And with the interviewer constantly butting in?

In preparation for Miss Universe 2013 in Moscow, reigning titleholder Olivia Culpo did a final photoshoot for the pageant’s program book. She was at her sexiest and most appealing in the video below. It’s much like saving the best for the last shots.

By the way, the banner at the top of this post (courtesy of Miss Universe Org.) will be a permanent fixture in all my MU2013 posts. Get used to it.
MU2012 Olivia Culpo filming in Moscow
And so, we have a first glimpse of Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo taping a promotional material in Moscow itself for the upcoming Miss Universe 2013 to be hosted by the Russian capital.
From hereon now, expect to see and hear more of the latest about the most highly-anticipated beauty pageant of the year. It’s past mid-September and in only a little over three weeks’ time, the beautiful delegates for this year’s edition will start departing for the host city to begin their respective conquests for the crown everyone wants to get a hold on.
I can already hear Olivia shouting in Russian.
“Добро пожаловать в Москву!” (Welcome to Moscow!)
Remember the slip of Miss Universe Guyana Ruqayyah Boyer during the Evening Gown Preliminaries last December in Las Vegas? Watch the video below to refresh your memory.

Fast forward to August 2013 where the same lady is now Guyana’s representative to Miss World 2013.
Look at her now.
The new Ruqayyah Boyer
Let’s see how far this lady will go in MW2013. The Indonesians seem to have a growing fondness for her.
First off, here’s the article from Panorama movil:
And here’s the verbatim English translation made by Google:
Irene Esser could go to Miss World 2013
Although nothing is confirmed yet run strong rumors about a possible role for Irene Esser in Miss World 2013.
He says the new Venezuelan representative in the Miss World would Irene Esser. This would come as Irene months managing contracted a management contract and representation with Donald Trump that can not compete in any beauty contest.
Barely two weeks ago, the agency granted a permit with the condition Esser continues to meet its commitments to the agency. When she won the Miss World will be completely relieved of any commitment to Trump Model Management.
With Miss World 2011 Ivian Sarcos taking over the franchise of Miss World Venezuela starting 2014, Osmel Sousa will have up to this year to send his candidate for Julia Morley’s beauty fest. And recent developments are suggesting that Miss Universe Venezuela 2011-2012 Irene Esser is being considered to take part in Miss World 2013 in Indonesia this coming September.
If and when her participation gets the green light and becomes official, only two things could possibly happen – one, she will handily win the crown as a fitting finale for the long-standing relationship between Julia and Osmel. Or two, she will easily be ignored and get “punished” for Osmel not cooperating with Miss World Organization and forcing the latter to secure a new country partner.
So which possibility are you on?
Miss Universe 2012 First Runner-Up Janine Tugonon on the March 2013 cover of Metro Magazine.
Janine in all her lovely splendor.
If you still haven’t bought the latest issue (including the digital version) of Metro Magazine, then do yourself a favor and get one now. It has our Miss Universe 2012 First Runner-Up Janine Tugonon on the cover in a ’60s Redux theme, complete with a nice article and multi-page pictorial spread inside.
Janine has come a long way, and in Louis Vuitton garb at that.
The first thing you might end up saying after seeing these images is…”What a long way our Janine has come!” From her days as a Pharmacy student and Miss Thomasian Personality to her unsuccessful first attempt to win a crown in Bb. Pilipinas 2011 and an eventual re-joining last year to finally nail the top prize, all the way to Las Vegas where she kept all Filipinos on the edge of their seats after almost giving the country its third Miss Universe victory.
Janine is certainly fated for better things to come. After she gets to relinquish her crown to a ‘highly-pressured’ successor come April, it’s time to reap and fully enjoy the rewards of an outstanding reign. I’m pretty sure she will have a string of more endorsements, plus a possible showbiz stint with ABS-CBN.
Marriage can wait. Right, Janine?
