Miss Earth 2019 in Legazpi City, Albay

July 24, 2019 – Contract Signing between Carousel Productions, Inc. and (UAP) United Architect of the Philippines – Manila Archizonian Chapter.

85 to 90 Flora Advocates from all over the World, empowered to make a change, will be coming together to promote various initiatives to preserve our natural resources, engage in environmental activities and projects together with environmental partners in communities, municipalities and cities in the country.

More than a month of activity will be covered on TV, print, radio, live stream and blog on official MISS EARTH social media- Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and participants own digital platform. Coronation Night will be Telecast Live on FOXLIFE and in TV stations of participating countries with Live Streaming on the Miss Earth Facebook page on October 26, 2019. The two-hour television special shall be telecast on ABS-CBN nationwide on October 27, 2019 (Sunday’s Best) and on The Filipino Channel (TFC) worldwide.

Miss Earth 2019 to be held in Legazpi, Albay on October 26, 2019. All the delegates will be in Legazpi from October 19 -26, 2019.

The reigning Miss Philippines Earth Janelle Lazo Tee – along with elemental court Ana Monica Tan, Chelsea Fernandez and Alex Dayrit plus Miss Earth Air 2018 Melanie Mader – were present during the contract signing with Lorraine Schuck and Peachy Veneracion for Carousel Productions.

Nguyen Phuong Khanh of Vietnam is Miss Earth 2018

We have a new Miss Earth and she is Nguyen Phuong Khanh of Vietnam. She outperformed everyone else in the Final 4 (even the Top 8) to become the first Vietnamese winner of the title and the first-ever victory of the country in a Grand Slam pageant among the Big 4 in the pageant world.

Her elemental court is composed of Miss Air Melanie Mader of Austria, Miss Water Valeria Ayos of Colombia and Miss Fire Melissa Flores of Mexico.

Miss Philippines Celeste Cortesi made it up to the Top 8, along with Telma Madeira of Portugal, Diana Silva of Venezuela and Sofia Favan of Italy.

This was such a tightly-paced finals that the event was concluded at just 10pm, way earlier than previous editions.

I will do my Miss Earth 2018 Predictions in a top-to-bottom order for a change. Starting off with my big winner and elemental court, I can see two Latinas – Melissa Flores of Mexico and Diana Silva of Venezuela – fighting close to become the successor of Karen Ibasco. I am giving the edge to the Mexican beauty because she is the more consistent all-around. It also helps that the Miss Earth Mexico Organization that sent her has been making great efforts in sustaining and making the brand more popular in the Americas. Now if the final decision would come down to a Q&A answer, then it wouldn’t surprise me as well if the judges would lean on Melissa. But if she falters – even marginally along the way – then Diana is likely to benefit from the lapse and could give Venezuela its 3rd Miss Earth crown. I would be happier with the former finishing on top, though.

As for Water and Fire, it could be interchangeable between Priya Sigdel of Nepal and Telma Madeira of Portugal. Anyone among the two would be good choices for the elemental court. The Nepalese, however, has the upper hand should she ace the interview round. She could even spoil the two Latinas. But for now, I am sticking to the final lineup I made.

The Portuguese Telma would have made a refreshing Miss Earth winner. Her relative youth might be a concern when the going gets tough, though.

Hence, above is a photo grid of my Top 8, with the 5th to 8th places occupied by Danijela Burjan of Slovenia, Margaretha de Jong of Netherlands, Celeste Cortesi of the Philippines and Melanie Mader of Austria (the one who might benefit from an upper push if the organizers find it beneficial to have an elemental Queen whose attitude and work ethics they are already accustomed to after reigning as Miss Philippines Earth-Water back in 2016).


Just to complete a Top 16, my 9th to 16th Goddesses in ranking are: Phuong Khanh Nguyen of Vietnam, Yashvi Aware of the USA, Maristella Okpala of Nigeria, Antonia Figueroa of Chile, Nerada Chitsadapriyakun of Thailand, Lisa Hayet of Guatemala, Jessica Russo of Peru and Margo Faith Fargo of South Africa.

Let’s see how the actual results will compare tomorrow night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The search for Miss Philippines Earth 2017 has also started


We’re not even into the start of screenings for Bb. Pilipinas 2017, and another national beauty pageant has already began its annual search. Miss Philippines Earth 2017 is now open for interested participants in this year’s edition which promises to be more exciting with the presence of Miss Earth 2016 Katherine Espin in most of the events leading to the finals (tentatively set around late May).

And with the resignation of Imelda Schweighart, the winners and elemental court are now complete, led by new Miss Philippines Earth 2016 Loren Mar Artajos. Miss Philippines Air is still Kiara Giel Gregorio, while promoted to new ranks are Shannon Bridgman as Miss Philippines Water, Melanie Mader as Miss Philippines Fire and previous semifinalist Tim Alsowyed as the new Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism.

Congratulations are in order for Rodgil Flores and his KF beauty camp for successfully retaining the Miss Philippines Earth crown via the sweet victory of Puerto Princesa City’s Imelda Schweighart, while nailing two more places in the Top 5 with Kiara Giel Gregorio of London getting Air and Melanie Mader of Vienna completing the magic circle as Eco-Tourism.

It’s no secret in pageant circles that the annual Miss Philippines Earth is what you can call the solid turf of Kagandahang Flores (or KF if you will). A big majority of its winners since 2001 are products of the group. And any other individuals sending in candidates are lucky to get their ladies placed – like this year’s Miss Philippines Water Loren Mar Artajos who comes from the Queen B of Designer Bing Cristobal and Miss Philippines Fire Shannon Bridgman courtesy of Jontie Martinez.

And methinks KF’s stronghold in this environmental pageant will continue for more years to come, just like Miss World Philippines is perceived as leaning towards Aces & Queens. Of course, Bb. Pilipinas will always be fair game to all camps – big or small.

Sunday Specials: Imelda Schweighart wins Miss Philippines Earth 2016

Imelda Schweighart is the new Miss Philippines Earth

Imelda Schweighart of Puerto Princesa City won Miss Philippines Earth 2016 after edging out her closest pursuer Miss Philippines Air Kiara Giel Gregorio of London and surprise Miss Philippines Water finisher Loren Mar Artajos of Laoag City. Shannon Bridgman of Rosales, Pangasinan claimed Miss Philippines Fire, with Melanie Mader of Vienna getting Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism.

Going into the Top 12 (only for this edition in connection with the June 12 Independence Day celebrations), the semifinalists were subjected to a unique “Earth Talk” interview where the ladies picked a “popular hashtag” in a container and expounded on the same. It was here where both Schweighart and Gregorio performed in relatively middling fashion as they were required to explain words that were less than impressive. Artajos gave the most solid reply that sealed her Top 5 placement.

But when the Final Q&A got underway during Top 5, the strong favorites really delivered and the judges’ choice on who to succeed Angelia Ong landed on the head of Schweighart. Artajos also gave a remarkable answer but somehow, she was already outweighed by the two ladies ahead of her in terms of cumulative performance in swimsuit, Filipiniana gown and all.

Imelda Schweighart will now represent the country in Miss Earth 2016 which – according to reports – might be hosted in Macau.

For the special awards handed out last night, Gregorio was named Miss Hana Shampoo, with Eva Reinoso of Alaminos, Pangasinan getting Miss SM Markets. Jan Abejero of Quezon City was named Best Eco Beauty Video with Krissandra Abel of Lobo, Batangas as Eco-Warrior.

My Top 16 for Miss Philippines Earth 2016


This coming Saturday night at the UP Theater in Diliman, the winners of Miss Philippines Earth 2016 will be crowned. And having reviewed the performances of each of the forty-seven (47) candidates, I applied my personal gut-feel for each one of them. By now, the real front-runners have emerged, and it will take a combination of good luck and excellent Q&A to finally nail the #1 spot and become the national successor of Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong.

Allow me to share my Top 16:

My Top 10 for Miss Philippines Earth 2016


Truthfully, the upper tier of my Top 10 could already be a foregone conclusion in the sense that I can already tell who would be locks for the all-important placements. Keep in mind that the lower tier during the actual finals are already assured of runner-up positions. Hence, five winners and five runners-up.

My five runners-up could be:
Shannon Bridgman
Loren Mar Artajos
Korina Christiene Reyes
Niña Sherra Tagalog
Krissandra Marie Abel

Some of you might wonder why Ellyz Santos of Laoang suddenly jumped to the upper 5 and may possibly do better than a runner-up ranking. I just feel that she has a special quality in her that could be looked at by the judges and organizers as advantageous for a more long-term elemental affiliation.

My potential Top 5 for Miss Philippines Earth 2016 with placements


While the battle for the crown is fierce between Kiara Giel Gregorio of London and Imelda Schweighart of Puerto Princesa City, I am strongly leaning on the former taking the spot after the announcement of winners.

Kiara ticks all the required boxes in my opinion. I can see her as the next-in-line for Angelia Ong, but with a soft British accent for a change. She has also the charisma to win people over, on top of showing an all-around pleasant personality and an articulate self.

But I’m not closing my doors on an Imelda Schweighart win yet. She could also get the nod of the decision-makers in the end. She is gorgeous and can express herself very well. I simply wanted to make a choice between the two.

As for the rest, I am giving Water to Melanie Mader, Fire to Fatima Alsowyed and Eco-Tourism to Ellyz Santos.

Regardless of the outcome on June 11, these ladies have made big strides in advocating for Mother Earth. And with the added upgrade to Climate Change Adaptation in their causes, Miss Philippines Earth has really become a most significant player in the national and international pageant scene.

Of Swimsuits and Cultures at MPE2016

Twin competitions were completed yesterday afternoon-till-evening at Versailles Alabang for Miss Philippines Earth 2015. First on the list were swimsuits as the candidates paraded themselves in their sexiest two-piece numbers much to the delight of members of the Press and the judges. Then came the Cultural Costumes where each one of them came out garbed in the most lavish traditional attires representing either the national or regional styles they represent.

In the first part, Kiara Giel Gregorio of London successfully claimed Gold, followed by Imelda Schweighart of Puerto Princesa City and Melanie Mader of Austria – the perennial medal-earners so far.

In the cultural costumes, Kristelle Suizo of Pagadian City topped the competition, with Nuña Sherra Tagalog of Palo, Leyte and Jezza Mae Lim of General Santos City settling for Silver and Bronze.

By now, the cast for the semifinals is shaping up nicely. Let’s see if these ladies will sustain the momentum till June 11 at the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite.

Miss Philippines Earth 2016: My Running Favorites

With forty-six (46) candidates vying for just one crown, it is tough zeroing in on one lady who can zoom to the top and stay permanently in the #1 spot till the finals night. But this is Miss Philippines Earth. The first five (5) placements are already considered titleholders, with the next five (5) sashed as runners-up to the magic circle of elemental crown-wearers.

After the Press Presentation last May 16, it made things relatively easier for your blogger to share his running favorites. And at this juncture, it would be safe to say that the ladies who have strong chances to perform well at the Historic Aguinaldo Shrine on June 12 are Imelda Schweighart of Puerto Princesa City and Kiara Giel Gregorio of London. These two ladies are on a see-saw battle for the title of Angelia Ong.

But then again, the presence of consistent performers Tim Alsowyed of Dumaguete City, Shannon Bridgman of Rosales, Pangasinan and Ellyz Santos of Laoang, Northern Samar cannot be ignored. They complete my First 5 so far.

Now pageants are always full of surprises. So I wouldn’t overlook the chances of Evening Gown Competition winner Melanie Mader of Austria and Darling of the Press Liza Cacho of Anda, Pangasinan. Why, even the remaining candidates who made it as Hana Beauties of Nature should be given the edge to figure out well in the final tally. And they are Anna Mae Cagurangan of Piat, Cagayan, Korinna Christiene Reyes of the City of San Fernando, Jessica Zevenbergen of Murcia, Negros Occ. and Loren Artajos of Laoag City.

Finally, I am giving my temporary wild cards to Niña Sherra Tagalog of Palo, Leyte, Athena Catriz of the City of San Pedro, Maybelle Pameroyan of Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan and the Fire Fighter herself, Angelyn Pasaporte Presidente of Pototan, Iloilo.

The list will still change in some areas, for sure. But for now, these are the fifteen Earth warriors I am seeing as solid bets to make the cut in Miss Philippines Earth 2016. 🙂

The Miss Philippines Earth 2016 Press Presentation

It was a burning hot, sticky humid and drippingly sweaty affair during the Miss Philippines Earth 2016 Press Presentation held at the poolside of Diamond Hotel Philippines yesterday around noon. Except for the forty-six (46) candidates, everyone else perspired like there’s no tomorrow. But their presence made up for all the uncomfortable surroundings made all the more difficult by the heat emanating from water in the swimming pool.

A bit of a surprise came during the announcement of the Darling of the Press medal winners as the pretty but relatively shy Liza Cacho of Anda, Pangasinan outpointed Silver and Bronze medalists Imelda Schweighart of Puerto Princesa City and Kiara Giel Gregorio of London to claim Gold. It goes to show how heavy the supports was for the lady who was just as amused of getting that covered award.

But when time came for the announcement of the Top 10 Beauties of Nature who will vie for Miss Hana “naturally beautiful” Special Sponsor Prize, the rising favorites started to be named one by one. I’m saying this because their choices last year was like a preview of the final results save for one pick.

The ten (10) are Imelda Schweighart / Kiara Giel Gregorio / Ellyz Santos of Laoang, Northern Samar / Shannon Bridgman of Rosales, Pangasinan / Ma. Fatima Alsowyed of Dumaguete City / Korinna Christiene Reyes of the City of San Fernando / Loren Mar Artajos of Laoag City / Melanie Mader of Vienna / Jessica Zevenbergen of Murcia, Negros Occ / and Anna Mae Cagurangan of Piat, Cagayan.

Let’s see if the Presenters’ batting record will go up or down this year. For now, let’s check out photos from the event. 🙂
