Presenting the National Costume of Miss Philippines Earth 2019 Janelle Lazo Tee for Miss Earth 2019 as designed by my dear Patrick Isorena:
Janelle is wearing a National Costume that represents the “The Mother of All Philippine Festivals” – the #AtiAtihan – a feast held annually in January in honor of the Santo Niño (Infant Jesus), Held on the third Sunday, in the town of Kalibo.
The name Ati-Atihan means “to be like Atis” or “to make believe Atis”, the local name for the Aeta aborigines. The festival consists of tribal dance, music, accompanied by indigenous costumes and weapons, and parade along the street. It has inspired many other Philippine Festivals including the Sinulog Festival of Cebu and Dinagyang of Iloilo City.

The Press Presentation of Miss Earth 2019 took place in three different spots inside Diamond Hotel Manila. First, the 85 Official Candidates did their floral and advocacy introductions at the Diamond Ballroom before heading over to the hotel’s main lobby for a big group photo. Right after, they slipped into their Ricky Abad swimsuits and gathered at the poolside for a nice traditional shot.
This year’s floral theme made the entire proceedings more colorful as each Earth Warrior showed pride in the national flowers of their countries with corresponding medicinal qualities.
No Darling of the Press was awarded this time around, but instead, each of the ladies gifted guests with a plant seedling the recipient could grow into a tree – reason for their hashtag #meandmytree.
Early favorites are the delegates from Puerto Rico, India, Ghana, Spain, Netherlands, South Africa, USA, Belarus, Philippines, Poland, Czech Republic, Brazil and Australia.
Between now and next week, the ladies will be traveling around the Philippines for their assigned eco-tours in Misamis Oriental, Davao, Batangas, Cavite and Bataan. Different segments of the competition will also take place in different parts of Metro Manila plus Albay and Pampanga.
