normannorman.com’s coverage of the 65th Miss Universe wasn’t the easiest to fulfill. But amidst the daily stress and intermittent moments that were humbling in nature, we emerged from the whole experience unscathed, with nerves of steel and leveled-up patience.

Thanks to my coverage partner Joy Arguil who has learned to adjust to my relative quirks, and to our new team member Joseph Gerard V. Jose who is being gradually ushered in to the world of pageantry in both the national and international stages.

To Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maria Mika Maxine Medina who added a Top 6 finish in the competition to her list of achievements, always keep your head held high because you represented the country so splendidly well. Do not let the bashers get into you because they will never ever experience the wonders of being part of the most beautiful event in the Universe.

To Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, best of luck in your journey as a newly signed-up talent of WME/IMG.

And to Iris Mittenaere, may you have a most magical reign that will keep the Miss Universe brand strong and worth looking forward to in decades to come.

    BTW is it true? 66th MU is here again on November?

    • naku wag na muna. sino ang gagastos? next year pa yata makaka 1/4 ng bawi si chavit. make it 2019 or 2020 For the sake of our bbp universe this year. But i have a feeling na hinde d2. make it somewhere in Europe or africa or kung saang maraming pinoy for support.

  3. Sir Norman, would also like to express my gratitude to you and your team (Joseph and Ms. Joy) for the excellent pageant coverage. Even though I cannot eatch the daily activities of the delagates (because of work), your posts made me feel that I am actually part of the whole event, physically present and participating in the festivities. Again, your dedidcation helps us to be more connected with the pageant in many ways.

    Thank you once again to the whole team and great photos by the way! 🙂

    P.S. Does Joseph take portrait photos? Would love to have him as my photographer in my portraits! 🙂

  4. Indeed…take a sigh of relief and some much needed down time everyone.

    BbP 2017 will be here faster than two shakes of a lambs tail.

    My main thought going into the 2017 pageant year is on how Venezuela not making the top 13 affect the Sousa’s beauty queen machine? 🤔
    Is it a combibation of the sun beginning to set on the Venezuelan “type” reps in addition to IMG’s change of direction in selecting MU queens?

    Its like selecting choice fruit. The shiniest looking apples and oranges may not necessarily be the sweetest! 😀

  5. If there is one regret from my side is the lack of filipino element of the live MU production. No filipino judge. No local performers like the Bayanihan in 1994 or Lea S/Arnel or Charice or sana El Gama Penumbra man lang (Wanda? Kat?). Lack of tourism promotion (Again, Wanda? Kat?) And kahit yun mga lalaki na naghawak ng headset mga puti pa. Sana sina Alden Richards or Billy or Luis or sino mang pinoy nalang. Chavit was not even shown sa camera (not that I like to see his face)… then Philippines paid the $14M bill.

    Overall, did not like the production but luckily the winner is deserving… and Maxine got the spot she deserved (Top 6 indeed)

    • nanood ka ba talaga ng pageant te??? kung nanood ka makikita mo talaga si chavit. FYI nahagilap din sya ng camera. Check mo ang part ng announcing of judges. Nasa likod ni Cynthia and sushmita sen si Mr. Chavit katabi ni Wanda Teo. Pati ba naman production? anung production gusto mo? katulad ng dati nung time ni charlene? Gora na kay Paula shugart, welcome ang MUO sa suggestions.

  9. sana naman may 2 rounds of Q&A ang bbp this coming edition of bbp2017. From top 16 Question & Answer. then top 8. then Q&A again. then announcing of Runner up to winners. para may last 2 standing. Pero syempre para may moment ng crowning ang MI. after i announce ang bbp universe koronahan muna ang MI at ipakita din sa video. then after that i announce ulet ang bbp universe and then koronahan na. so lahat may crowning moment pa din na maayos kahit last 2 standing ang dulo. at mas mapili ng maayos ang winners if may 2 rounds of Q&A ang bbp. then give them difficult Questions. And sana naman total package ang mga sumali.
    If ever ako ang ND ng bbp. kakaiba ang gagawin ko. by group, by title ang mga girls but in one night pageant event. the girls will choose kung anung title ang sasalihan nila. upon auditions dapat may nakalagay sa form reg kung anung title ang sasalihan nila. Kung MU. then i belong sya sa MU group. kung MI then sa MI group sya and same scenario in our titles. then choose the girls who are qualified each titles. and then sa pageant by titles, by group din and each judges will judge each groups kung sino ang karapat dapat sa semifinalist base on their peformances. Top 24 will be chosen for the ist cut. . 4 candidates each title. we have 6 titles so 24 lahat for semifinals. pwedeng 3 per titles para 18 lahat. then those who made on the ist cut top 24 or top 18 will be qualify in the first Round of Q&A. then from top 24 or top 18 judges will choose top 12 who will compete for final Q&A. the winners will be announced by title so each title last 2 standing sila. kung sino hinde mapili sa kanilang dalawa bawat title. sila ang runner ups per title.
    Para naman akma sa title ang ipapanalo nilang kandidata. Just The girls know whats in their heart. alam nila kung saan sila dapat.
    i know This idea sounds crazy. but, i will really do it if ako ang ND ng bbp. mag wowork to im sure.

      Pano kung gusto nila lahat Miss Universe?
      Mas ok na yung lahat ng finalist may crown except the two runners up.
      Kung 5 ang crowns, there will be 7 finalists.
      I hope there will be a preliminary pageant to select the semi-finalists.
      Top 12 (semifinalists) will compete in swimsuit, long gown and q and a.
      then top 7 (finalists) will answer a common question.
      Announcement of 2nd and 1st runner up.
      Crowning of 2nd tier pageant winners
      Last 2 girls standing will be crowned MU and MI. Sabay silang kokoranahan at sabay sabay silang mag-first walk as crowned winners.

    • Our idea doesn’t just sound crazy… YOU are crazy! haha Paano pag MU lahat gusto salihan? Lahat ng mga yan panagarap MU hindi MS or MGI noh! Uminom ka nga ng maaligamgam na tubig para tumino pagiicip mo Geoff! 🙂

    • Ateng, ISA SA tip ni Jonas is “choose your crown” bago PA Sila isalang. Yung training NILA before pageant is generic. Nagkakaroon lang ng variation kapag may title na Sila na tailor fit SA international competition NILA. Halos lahat naman gusto MUP sash. Ang problema Kay SMA Ang dami niyang franchise eh di naman “one size fits all” Yung mga titles. IBA IBA pa Rin ang demands!

      • Mas maganda talaga kung hiwalay ang pageant ng MUP. Hiwalay din ang pageant para sa MIP. Tapos yung mga runner up na lang ang ilaban sa mga 2nd tier na pageant ( Intercon, Supra, Globe at MGI).

    • ok na ang thumbs down at words na disagree. maayos na opinion and no need haluan ng mga salita na para naman ” tumino ang pag iisip ko”@observing you. mukang mas matino pa nga ako kesa sayo. pwe! d ko naman sinabi na gawin sana ng bbp yan. yan lang ay para sakin if ever ako ang ND. yeah karamihan MU talaga ang gusto but i believe na mayroon ding gals dyan na ok na sa kanila ang anu mang korona/title maranasan lamang ang buhay beauty queen winner. Ma i represent din nila ang bansa natin. Pero syempre b4 ko gawin yan pipiliin ko ang titles na mas malakas ang crowd o fans or worthy pageant titles and isa pa hiwalay ng audition/screenings pero sama sama in one event til coronation. i dont believe na walang pipila sa MI, MGI at supra. remember it is also a JOB. Lahat nga MU ang gusto. MU ang pipilahan. Pero ang tanong pang MU ba silang lahat? if failed sila sa MU category may chance sila pumila sa ibang titles malay nya don pala sya qualified. Minsan kung ano ung nasa puso mo hinde pala para sayo.
