  1. Miss France I think is probably one of the most agreeable winners in the pageant’s recent history. Deserving too, all things considered. I think Haiti had the best answers in the final round but France is the most well-rounded among the three. Hence, her win.

As for Venezuela, I was surprised that she wasn’t included in the top 13. I genuinely liked her, but if the allegations were even half true, then I’m disappointed. In that regard I could see, understand and accept why she didn’t make the cut. She performed so well in the preliminaries, but at the end of the day as they say, walang halaga ang lahat kung hindi mabuti ang kalooban ng isang tao.

As for Maxine, I am still so proud of her. Her kindness and sincerity just shines through. She’s probably one of my favorite Philippine representatives we’ve sent to Miss U recently, right after Ara. I have a penchant for queens na hindi pikunin kasi and they both have that in them. Do I wish she spoke in our native language? Yes, because even though the outcome would have been the same, she would’ve set an example for Filipinas with a heart to join national pageants despite not knowing a single word of English. It would have been such a very fitting opportunity for our national language to gain widespread exposure as well. Pero tapos na, Maxine fought a good fight and it’s time to move on.

Hay, time flies. I hope all the girls enjoyed their stay in the Philippines.

And also, congratulations to our 2016 queens! Another fruitful year for the country!

This is beyond the fans’ control.

    • Good. I think the NDs are in for a rude awakening with how lola Julia Morley is conducting her business. Seems like she’s back to her same old self.

Pagsamahin SA Isang picture si Kat espin, Kylie at Iris since NASA pinas Silang tatlo!

  3. Tito Norman, bakit underwhelming final gown ni maxine? Kanino yun? Bakit every year may issue sa gown. Risky pag too simple…x

      • Tito Norms, baka may update po kayo sa placement ni Maxine…kung 4th, 5th, o 6th sya…sa top 6…tapos, binigyan ba sila ng runner-up trophies? kasi di ba last time si Australia and France 4th and 3rd runners-up…

      • im not so sure … somehow the gown did some have effect… judges will still look at totality… i still believe dapat all out na kahit sa gown .. siguro nag expect too much of the pasabog daw na gown, so when people saw na common looking, di na excite mga tao…sana pasabog na for a once in a lifetime oportunity

    • Although that’s the reason why Maxine was able to penetrate Top 6, ayoko nang mag complain…and it’s over. But then kung paguusapan lang naman, I don’t think it is really pasabog…ang dami nang ganung cut and design sa mundo…nothing special, except that Maxine carried it so well as usual. Ib pa rin yung blue gown ni Pia…that was really impacting and pasavogue!

  4. ..woww..haa.. Edi kau nah mg ms. U.an talino nyu ee..
.puru kau lait.. Xunud kau nah ang mg ms.U hiyang hiya nmn c maxine sa inyu.

  5. If only Maxine had used the interpreter , I think , with her glowing beauty that morning , she could have been in top 3 and Tovar dislodged. Maxine could have been the first ever 2nd runner up from the Philippines in the history of Miss Universe pageant.

I hope rumor is true that the 66th MU (Miss Universe 2017) will be held again in Pinas in Dec 2017

    • I thought we had consensus already on this topic. It is what it is . Let’s just congratulate Maxine for a job well done and hope she gets some rest .

      • I have moved on but I guess I just really hate Tovar. Her place is supposed to be Maxine’s, I was hoping to be our very first 2ndru in MU history. I guess the 2ndru placement will continue to elude us

    • d kaya nagkamali sya ng pag ka intindi sa tanong nung tinagalog na ng interpreter. pag kakaintindi yata ni maxine is pangyayari sa buhay nya. as what intepreter said pangyayari diba. pero ang tanong is pagbabago in the past ten years. yung sagot kase ni maxine is tama naman kung ang tanong is pangyayari sa buhay nya. so yung interpreter yata ang mali.

      • Ang tanong kay Maxine ay yung kung ano ang “biggest change IN THE WORLD'” na nakita nya, hindi lang sa Pinas kundi sa buong mundo. Although tapos na ang lahat, and Maxine did a hell of a good job, hindi talaga niya negets ang tanong, hence, hindi swak ang sagot. The use of an interpreter for a very easy question was an embarrasment to an English speaking nation like the Philippines in my opinion. Maxine was under a lot of pressure but she performed very well and she carried through making me still proud of her.

Congratulations, Maxine! You are still a winner! Thank you for representing the Philippines with grace, humility, and charm.

And to you, Mr. Norman, hats off to you for doing an awesome job as well. I am one of your biggest fans and follower of your blog. Don’t mind the haters. They still follow you, anyway, whatever they say.

    • No interpreter can ever put sense into maxine’s ramblings. Sorry that’s the truth.
Accept it and learn from this. Wit is innate which can not be learned or thought. That is what Maxine lacks. Ara Arida, Melanie Marquez, Maria Isabel Lopez are all not the best English speakers but they very very witty individuals. Hence, please let’s stop this and just admit that Maxine is just all beauty. That’s all!

      • After all, her answer to the Q&A during BBP finals was a very clear sign not to mention all of her interviews. The only thing she did well was with Boy Abunda when she had to answer yes or no.

      • SOBRANG PANIBUGHO NI JEREMI KAY MAXINE, SOBRANG GALIT ANG NAMUMUTAWI SA PUSO NYA AT GRABE ANG PAIT NA NARARAMDAMAN NYA AT GANYAN NA LANG ANG SUKLAM NYA KAY MAXINE AT TALAGANG DI NYA MAPATAWAD HA HA HA HA HA

      • dimwit, you must mean taught not thought. you are no better than Maxine so shut up.

      • DyosaKapangitan,
I am just stating the very clear fact that she doesnt have brains and that had been witnessed by the whole wide universe.
You know what I have to tell you that one of the keys to success is to admit the truth because that is the only way of improving oneself. In my years of travelling, one of the common observations of other races about Filipinos is that they never admit what they lack or never admit mistakes wherein they tend to put the blame on some people, situation or to anything. This is so true… no wonder why they have voted for a president that has moral values, a killer, uncultured and uneducated one.

    SMH. Kawalang gana. Napaka-unprofessional.

    • okay lang yun, sagot lang dapat is.. maxine didn’t have the ladyluck all the way to top 3. she’s still very lucky compared to the other girls who werent called.

  7. Nabasa ko lang hihihi

This is the real score with regards to Ms.Venezuela NOT WINNING OR AT LEAST PLACING.

    1. During the Terno Gala in Vigan, pinalitan nya ang terno nya sa terno ni Ms. Czech Republic.

    2. Stubborn cya during the rehearsal, she’s doing something that is out of the choreography or instruction.

    4. After the opening number of all the contestants ay nagpa FB live c Ms. Peru and guess what, sinabi nya na inapakan daw ni Ms.Venezuela ang suot nyang gown.

So now, can you really say na deserving cya?
She was unplaced for a good reason.

And her being friendly? Oh that was just part of her strategy, infact friendly lang cya sa mga malalakas na countries, that is why maraming candidates ang intimidated sa kanya.

And anyway, Ms.Thailand? She did not won the Voting, pangalawa lng cya. The winner in Voting was Philippines but since pasok na ang Philippines sa top 13, at cya ang pangalawa sa voting, kaya pasok cya.

Well, ganyan lang ang life naming magaganda bwihihihi

  8. Didn’t Pia have a book of [possible] questions and answers, which she used to read everyday like her life depended on it? I know we can’t compare apples to oranges, but maybe Maxine should have had one herself? Or Pia could’ve lent her “the book”? Sure, it’s better to speak from the heart as to not appear canned or, worse, have a mental block on stage, but maybe it could have helped; it could have given Maxine ideas on HOW to answer certain questions. Just a thought…

    • Andro — Yes, Pia kept fastidious notes of any and all possible pageant questions that could possibly be asked of her and she studied these notes constantly for several months and without fail. She was determined to not leave anything to chance. That is how she aced the final Miss Universe Q&A — through sheer hard work, thoughtful preparation and perseverance.

      • Our Queen 🙂
Event and don’t change her answer daw Ana hihihi
I love hat Maxine is a cheerful lady.
Obvious na Beautiful Outside and inside talaga sya hihihi

      • Maxine is full of class and manners. These are the characters that make her more stunning than her physical attributes and intelligence.

For me, she is the prettiest girl the Philippines has ever sent to Miss Universe after Aileen Leng Damiles.

      • @ bong700
        and @ Ana
she was so gracious and beautiful in that interview
it is almost heartbreaking that she did not make the top 3

it does look like there’s a heavy weight off of her shoulders though

she is still a winner in my book

Laura Lehman could be good choice

Magandang suggestion yan. She will be a total package pag nagkataon.

Para sa lahat, any suggestion for BbP-International?

        Lastly, BPCI should drop MGI.

  9. Sir Norms: I hope you can give an update as to whether the Department of Tourism was able to reach their goals, e.g. tourist influx, stadium attendance, local and worldwide audience views, commercial views, and so on. Thanks!

  10. My friend and I met in a coffee shop last night. We talked about the Miss Universe pageant and how Maxine fared in the pageant. She asked me if I were asked such a question as Maxine’s, how would I answer it. Here’s my answer:

“It is noteworthy that women empowerment has been globally recognized in a much larger scale when Hillary Clinton made her bid as the first woman to run for president in the United States of America. That is the most significant change in this world I have by far seen in the last ten years, and I am always stunned to think that the most powerful country in the world could have been ruled by a woman.”

  11. Special Awards:

    KOREA = Miss Congeniality
    Albania = Miss Photogenic
    *each will receive US$1,000

“Maxine could make as among the top contenders, but not the winner, because the Philippines is the host country.”
“She cannot be the winner. She can be first runner-up. I hope I’m proven wrong for the first time in my life. I want her to win. I want us to be so proud, but you know, that’s life,” she said.
She said that the host country cannot win.
“I cannot serve lechon and bring it back to my kitchen kasi I’m giving it to you,” she added.

    May isa pa 🙂
“Oh ‘di ba tama ako mga bakla?”

    • Bong, I watched on TV kanina. Gloria was interviewed outside MOA right after the coronation. Sarcastic ang pagkasabi niya na Maxine should be in the top 3. She liked Maxine to be in the top 3. Tapos ‘yung smile na parang pang-inis. She said that para makabawi s’ya from the horrendous bashing of the social media folks.

      • Hahahaha! She is low class. Sorry.

I’ll report for work mamaya. Magiging isa akong defender ni Maxine. My officemates don’t like Maxine dahil mahina nga sa QnA. Nung preliminary competition nga, grabe, bash to death sila sa emerald green ni Maxine.

      • @Ana, I like Maxine and I hope tigilan na ang pang-bash sa kanya. Hindi nya kasalanan kung mahina communication skills nya, and she really tried to work on it pero hanggang dun nalang talaga. We all have our own weaknesses. Deserving sya siguro i-bash kung magaling sya to start with, then nagpabaya at naging complacent and end up performing poorly.

Also, di na ko maiinis kay GD, ganun talaga sya magsalita…and looks like wala sya plano matutong maging tactful.

      • @Fabbie, inis and galit are two different things. Okay? Haaaays. Did I ever say galit ako kay Gloria?

      • Ana, u sound violently furious at GD.
I thought Gloria was articulate and witty . I was expecting something better The fact that she has been in the limelight for almost 50y.
Her grammar diction and fluidity .. walang sinabi Kay Norman.

      • not defending Gloria D. Pero pabor naman sya dba sa top 3 placement for maxine sa MU. even r 1st runner up is ok to her. base sa mga past interview nya ang hinde nya nalang ma agree is yung manalo sya since host country nga tayo.

  12. @Norman

Your article is pretty much my consensus at the whole MU pageang last night.
Maxine’s final 6 placement, under daunting circumstances, was an achievement in and that of itself.

The top 6 was a worthy batch and Miss France, like PIA, truly is a beautiful and complete package to represent the MU brand.

The 2nd runner-up of Miss Colombia hopefully ends the pageant animosity towards thd Filipina reps in the future. I was pleased in a relieved way myself.

Also noteworthy is how gracious the hometown audience was to all the candidates during the pageant and the hosting of Steve Harvey using last year’s mishap as comic relief. Pia handing him a pair of glasses was hilarious!

Bravo to you Norman! Thank you for your blog.

  13. @bong700 , public speaking takes a lifetime of training . A few months is not enough . We have to find someone who is ready in that dept .

    • In a short span of training lang, you can see improvement in a candidate. Basta magaling ang trainer, at seryoso ang candidate.

      • check… are u questioning the trainors Ana bwihihihi
Ayaw din nilang aminin yan hihihi
Baka ang answer is very far from the question din hihihihi charette lng
Mahirap ba ang isang rule is to understand the question first and think before you open your mouth hihihihi charette charette charette… Love natin si Maxine … diko sya binabash ok 🙂

    • Bong and Ana trust me, improvement possible in a few months . But readiness? It will take yrs
That’s why We want someoneLike Nicole who has been onstage debating all her life.

I wish they would change our educational system where kids are trained to be more assertive like in India and most Mediterranean and European countries.

      • It’s a case-by-case basis (or a base to base cases hahaha). Preparing a candidate to take a shot at public speaking may not take long, especially if she has the heart to serve and strong mind to show to people, then she can be Miss Universe… Charla Abellana! Hihihi!

    • Substance is something that you can never teach I think. My observation is that even if she used her interpreter and answered in tagalog, I don’t think she’s that well-read or updated to give an answer. I remember the answer she gave when she was asked about her advocacy during send-off… wala talagang laman yung sinasabi niya kahit tagalog pa.

      • I think kahit nagtagalog sya hindi magbabago ang isasagot nya. Yun ang unang pumasok sa isip nya na isasagot nya even in english or tagalog.
But a top 6 finish is not bad.

      • MOKS I tend to agree with you but I will be less harsh. I think she is an intelligent and sensible woman in her own way. But it is just not part of her personality to try to understand and internalize certain things around her on a deeper basis. It is not innate in her to be interested in some profound things such as the most significant thing that happened in the world in the past 10 years. Boy! or Gurl! That question is for Nicole C. or Kylie this year and for Pia in 2015. And this is where her trainers may have missed out. Maybe they focused on the Philippines because the first set of questions in Pia’s time was about the current issues in the countries of the finalists. But this time Miss U dissed out a question regarding the world (not the universe yet) and Maxine did not know anymore what to say. Props to her though for not losing her composure and she somehow managed not to look stupid. If she answered in Tagalog I think she would have said something more sensible, or said the same things in a much more coherent way that the interpreter can translate beautifully. Best that she spoke in Tagalog. Look at Miss France. She actually speaks good English. But she used a translator, Tagalog, especially if Maxine spoke it would have been much easier to the ear than the Thai that Chalita spoke. So from now on I say the Miss U bet from our country uses an interpreter if she does not have the gift of gab of all the international winners from the Philippines since 2013.

  14. Next pageant will be Bb. Pilipinas 2017.
    When will that possibly be?
Excited for a new batch of women to represent the Philippines.
Is Catriona still eligible in 2018?
Thank you to all the ladies who represented the country.

  15. Congratulations Ms.France the new Ms.Univerese 2016 actually when I posted my top 13 she is my no.1 iam impress with her beauty and evening gown .

  16. Again, congratulations to Miss France!

Philippine pageantry 2016 – the good, the bad and the ugly.

The GOOD: 2016 was yet another banner year for all the Bb representatives. All six titlist placed in their respective pageants, that included a MI winner, MU finalist, MGI 1st runner up and a MG 3rd runner up.

The BAD: The controversial selection process in determining the fast track awards and the winners circle at MW 2016.. Our beloved MWP was hands down a more than worthy top 5 finalist, but -IMO- obvious political alliances were blatantly evident. The silver lining was a 6th straight placement for MWP. Under a new leadership team, may the MWP franchise continue to flourish nonetheless.

The UGLY – MPE was a beatiful rep for a possible threepeat at ME 2016. It was what her choices of words that was caught on social media that defined the term. Enough said here.

May 2017 be another banner year for Philippine pageantry, as I’m sure it will be.
    Rest well Norman.

  17. Congrats Norman on your next CNN gig. Pls do not forget to smile and take it easy . It’s about a beauty contest, not some serious political issues. Hihihi

  18. Congratulations FRANCE!

Congratulations Maxine for bringing the Philippines its 7th consecutive placement, the longest running consecutive streak of any Asian country, in Miss Universe!

TO IMG: Please stop with the hard selling of body image issues for marketing reasons and fielding token “fat” candidates like Miss Canada who obviously gained weight just to push this issue for you during the pageant. Yes, WE GET IT, but in the process of giving a placement to your token candidate, there were far more deserving candidates that were pushed out of a semifinalist placement.

    • Oh yeah she was freakin’ fat! If Alicia Machado competed with her “This is me” body in 1996, I am quite sure she would not have won. There were more deserving girls who could have taken her spot. Political correctness in the US is out of control.

    • What’s wrong with her body? She is very sexy. I like her.thatbis the new images of the new women today – not skinny!

      • @boogy — Miss Canada was naturally fit and slim to begin with. She’s ran marathons! She won first runner-up in Miss Supranational. Her recent weight gain and her “placement” as a semifinalist was all planned out — a big publicity stunt as part of IMG’s re-branding efforts for the pageant. Not fair to the other girls who would have genuinely placed otherwise. That’s what we’re criticizing here.

  19. It was great pageant… Pinoys should be proud for being a wonderful and gracious audience.

I hope MUO will learn from the choreographic snafus. Too many issues on the swimsuit competition, with hosts and candidates having miscues. It’s not fair to the girls as they’re not given the stage to shine on their own.

Up next is BBP. I hope we get an intellectual batch this year. I really do feel Catriona has an excellent chance of winning MU if she decides to give it one more go. She’s make a heck of a spokesperson.

  20. Off topic but great news: Pia just signed with IMG, a top model agency where Gigi Hadid, Gisele Bündchen, Ashley Graham are part of. I remember recently reading a comment in this blog that Pia is already old to start modeling. Well, eat your heart out negative commenter. Nothing is impossible! 😉

“Being Miss Universe opened a lot of doors for me. Actually, I just signed with IMG so I’m very excited about that, and I do hope everyone keeps supporting me even after I pass on the crown.”

    http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/597625/lifestyle/pia-wurtzbach-signs-with-big-talent-management-company-in-new-york

    • What I understand is she signed with IMG the MUO wing not the modelling agency per se . Know your facts. Even Pia said that after her reign she will continue to work with MUO.

Pero Pia is already a seasoned model here in the Philippines at MU2015 sya at may pangalan.
Connections counts a lot at kainitan pa yang 27-early 30’s and mukhang bata pa naman c Pia.

  21. ..maiba tayo..opening number wise, the best pa rin for me ang 2010 edition nina venus raj performing the commander..best backdrop ang 2013 edition nina ara..best choreography and over all MU peoduction coronation nite din ang russia edition in recent years..this mornings show is underwhelming..there was no cocktail color coded dresses at opening number while the candidates shout out their names and countries…the choreoghraphy is one and the same for ss and evening gowns..boring…etc….in sum, bring back the old format..it whatmakes the MU the most viewed pageant..

  22. STOP this drama and fingerpointing! All of you are stuck in the 90’s and 2000’s MU standards. It is time to wake up and learn that we are in a new world order. You have to catch up or forget about winning again. For the next BBP, the following must be in every candidate:

    1) COMMUNICATION – MU is a job that just happens to have the beauty pageant element. But is is primarily a Communications/Public Relations manager. If you cannot speak with clarity, coherence, and sense then forget your dream of becoming MU.

    2) LIFE STORY – There has to be more than a girl being a model then waking up one day to become an advocate for the poor or blind. This is the most recycled candidate crap in MU and MW. You will not be Mother Teresa so let’s cut to the chase and give us a more purposeful and substantial story of your life. (And no, organizing the MU is NOT the most meaningful change ever in 10 years even for a street vendor.)

    3) NO RECYCLING – Get fresh girls who have academic credentials on top of beauty, poise, and grace. The crop of girls in BBP have all been trained under the old MU standards. IMG is not your Donald Trump MU anymore. They want women who are truly the full package – body, mind, spirit, and more!

Let me close now with a quip about Maxine’s disaster of an answer: If all you have witnessed in the past 10 years as meaningful change in your life is the organization of MU, the next batch of girls to join BBP should start reading and learning not just the Philippines but the world, or the universe rather. Living in the bubble of the local provincial mindset will not help you win MU. Pia lucked out as she is well traveled and well spoken. Not many can accomplish both in a short span of time.

    • I am sorry for erroneously thumbing down your comment, Franco. I hope you do not think I am nasty if I suddenly remember Janina San Miguel after watching Maxine’s Q&A. Maxine misunderstood her question in BBP, which I attributed to nerves but then she seemed flaky in almost all her interviews – and then came the Top 6 interview with everything on the line where her only advantage over Janina was that her tone was more pleasant and she tried to answer in English. Maxine really reminds me of the airheads and bimbos in college and high school and her handlers seemed full of hubris to field a girl who obviously would have needed divine intervention to clear the onstage Q&A in the local pageant to begin with, knowing she was a beautiful shell with a polished exterior. I repeat that Venus and Ara were likewise less than stellar in their interviews but we got what they wanted to say. With Maxine, many of us went “Ano daw?” I used to think the likes of Jeremi were mean to her but Maxine was not like Ms. Thailand who gave an expected answer or Ms. Kenya who had to deal with a specific burning issue. We all learned a costly lesson today that determination does have a limit and that there is such a thing as being the right girl for the right pageant. Our “queenmakers” should take heed. The “formula” they recently “perfected” already needs tweaking lest our “golden” era end quickly.

      • Exactly on point, Caroline. No worries on the thumb down. I know that I am not the most popular person here but I always deliver what needs to be said. I lived in the Philippines over 20 years ago so I know how the herd mentality works and what being in that bubble is like. To be up on that world stage requires years of exposure to other cultures. Unfortunately, even with social media now, the knowledge being consumed in the Philippines is not always the right kind that can propel these young girls to a worldwide role.

      • “I lived in the Philippines over 20 years ago so I know how the herd mentality works and what being in that bubble is like. To be up on that world stage requires years of exposure to other cultures.”

        “airheads and bimbos”

“field a girl needing divine intervention in the local pageants”

Franco & Caroline, naririnig nyo bang mga sarili nyo? No, dahil pareho kayong puno ng utot 😛

      • Paula, it was not – and it is not – my intention to bring Maxine or any of our queens down and you can check that I did not say anything negative about Maxine until yesterday because I hoped for the best. I will maintain that being overcome by nerves, i.e. Ara and Venus, is a world away from being flaky, i.e. Maxine and that until we learn to be honest with ourselves that the new era of Miss Universe requires both beauty and brains, a podium finish will elude us. If I say that Catriona was a bimbo, I am delusional and nasty but if I say Maxine’s best should not have passed muster in BBP if we wanted a podium finish, please give it some thought.

      • Paula – It’s the same utot that declared France will win. I don’t care much about popularity here. The truth hurts but you learn to live with it eventually. Enjoy agreeing with me in a few months.

    • Franco, I admire your being vocal with your thoughts. You raise some valid points. Unfortunately they may fall on deaf ears.

      • Thanks. All trees start as seedlings when you plant them. My points will soon gain steam when these blind fanatics see the light.

    • Well said Franco. being a Miss Universe wannabe is a life long vocation, especially with the changes in format and direction of Miss U. Cannot be simulated after a few months of training, even if it is rigorous.

  23. Tito Norms, baka may scoop po kayo ng rank ni Maxine sa top 6….from a reliable source….i-chika mo naman sa amin dito…

  24. Exactly Sir Norman. Basta enjoy ka sa ginagawa mo at wala kang naapakang tao…Go lang ng Go. Hwag paapekto dyan kay Mang Basil.

  25. Maxine is really has potentials to be a Miss Universe in terms of Beautiful Face and Good Attitudes. Sa Q&A lang talaga mahina. I think MUO wanted her to be in the top 3 since she was the ist to asked during Q&A round and was given an easy question. She did great. So we should still be proud of her. Pero Nakakapanghinayang pa rin. Ang ganda ganda nya. lakas makadala ng smile nya. for me sya ang pinakamagandang rep natin sa MU. Sweet. bubbly. You can see in her eyes and in her face that she is beautiful inside. Feel mo yung pagiging humble nya. she is beautiful with a heart.
Anu kayang place nya sa top 6? maybe 3rd or 4th.
Anyway, malapit na ang bbp 2017. exciting ang bbp this year. Sana mahanap nila this year ang tamang representative sa bawat international pageants. Pia and Iris are the newly pattern of what it takes to be a miss universe. IMG is doing a great job. diversity is really good. Soon they will be looking for a sweet queen. but not just sweet. Confidently beautiful with a heart.

    • Agree ako sa lahat ng sinabi mo, I had the same feeling and reaction. Maxine really tired her best and we should appreciate that. Wala naman gusto mag-fail sya. Top 6 is big achievement.

  26. Thank you Pia. I think Maxine must have been really disappointed in herself. I hope they console her and tell her that she did the best and it wasn’t just meant to be.

    • while some people think that having an interpreter is an advantage
in a few instances, the interpreters have not captured the core of what the contestants message,
something gets lost in the translation, etc

Dyan dapat pinokpok si maxine in preparation sa Q&A.
Pagkatapos pa lang sa English question ay mali na ang pagkaintindi at nabigyan pa sya ng seconds to think her answer by allowing the translator to talk.
        Hindi bobo c Maxine.
Right focus of training lang kung saan talaga sya mahina.

      • Ayyyyyyyyyyyy… Horhe, ano yan hihihi… are you willing to testify in the senate about what you know of harbat… charette lang na maiksi hihihi

  28. Thanks Norm , I told you so! I came very close . I’ve been saying a relative unknown Haiti will win. Even if she didn’t I came closer than anyone else in predicting the winner. Poor max. Interpreter or no, she just didn’t know the obvious answer : the rise of social media. The gown drama is overblown every year. The final gown looked stiff and the green was much better.
Charmaine Elima start reading up please

    • Yes I prefer the top 20/15, top 10, top 5 format. (winner + 4 runners up). Also bring back the special awards: photogenic and congeneality.

  29. I was at work when all the action happened. I just relied on some post videos on line.

People are saying Maxine should have maximize the use of interpreter. But hey, the interpreter was even wrong with his translation. Significant change is different from pinakamabuluhang pangyayari. But I’m okay with her placement. I think she has the most beautiful face among the final 6.

Let me talk about the gown.. hmm.. It was okay, but of course we are expecting more. I personally think the green and rehearsal gown were better than her final gown. I know the gown has nothing to do with her placement. But this is just me wanting to see our representative wearing a stunning gown. My ultimate dream someday is to see our rep wear a custom made M5 gown. Feeling ko after all the gown fiasco’s we had in years, besides the crown, it is something that can satisfy the Filipinos.

  30. Question lang.

    5. Bakit recycled ang stage even the graphics used?

    • To answer your questions:
      1. Use of local photographers as part of contract. There are quite a number of shots not necessarily glam but more on candid, street shots, etc.
      2. None
      3. None
      4. Variation of candidate/delgate presentation – I heard to address the issue of commodifying women.
      5. The stage is not recycled. Maybe you’re referring to the stage design, they try to make this a standard design for all editions. Recycled means the materials are re-used.

    • Ms. Albania is photogenic. Ms. Korea is congeniality. Reference: Post pageant Interview of Paula Schugart… not announced during pageant proper due to time constraints.

  31. Thank you sir Norman! Thank you for giving us one of the best and in depth coverage of Miss Universe

  32. Its alright, Mr Norman.

But youre a good part of the beauty pageant community.

    Take a good rest.

    Mahal ka namin.

  33. Sir Norman sa lahat ng pageant blogger ikaw Lang tlaga ang Ina antay kung mag bigay ng substantial analysis after the pageant. Congrats Max for the top 6 finished.

  34. Kaloka talaga tong blogger na to, di nauubusan ng palusot pag di nananalo Top Pick nya.
May sumpa talaga sya, na sinumang Top Pick nya e asahan mong di mananalo.
Haaay my Queen Max, bakit ba ganyan ang Lola Norman mo?

Sana next year maging humble ka na at be true to yourself.

    • Sentido comon lang. Kung may sumpa siya, that will benefit us.

  35. Happy sa mga winners and to maxine we are very proud of you.

  36. Happy that Miss France won. Sya talaga ang itinakda. I’m also satisfied with Maxine’s performance, she’s really consistent. I admire her confidence on stage, she really stood out. Ganda ng mukha.

  37. many thanks, NORMAN, for the tireless efforts, and KUDOS for standing firm, and on high ground, in spite of the bashing, sometimes too personal and most foul… yes, take your well-deserved sleep, and may a flock of angels guide you in your dream…

  38. MAS NARAMDAMAN KO PA ANG MGA UPDATES NG MGA BAKLA SA
COMMENTS SECTION NG MGA READERS KESA SA BLOGGER. SALAMAT SA MGA COMMENTORS SUMIKAT ANG BLOGGER NA ITICH 😂😂😂 #REALTALK

  39. Congrats Sir Norman! The MUO should have given you a sash like Chavit that says “MR. UNIVERSE 1ST RUNNER UP”.

  40. Yes, Tito Norman! You deserve a beauty rest. I’m keeping my fingers cross that Bpci will pick the right candidate this year aligned with this new brand that miss u is establishing.

    • Siguro Kung this year sasali sila Theresa Lecaros, Shamcey Supsup or Nina Ricci Alagao Sila ang mananalo.

      • If licaros did some major changes on her body , maybe.
Yes to Nina, she should have been a finalist during her time.
Shamcey has proven her worth , no need for a do over.

  41. The choice of a woman of substance, Miss France, as this year’s MU winner may yet elevate beauty pageantry to a higher level.

In today’s world where social and political institutions are being delegitimized, and xenophobia, sexism, and hateful rhetoric comes out of the mouth of the very leaders who are supposed to unify and inspire, beauty pageantry is one of the few platforms left where ideas are heard and believed by millions, and therefore can be a powerful global agent for inclusiveness, openness and cooperation. For it to take its relevant place in the global stage, it has to have a credible intelligent spokesperson. Miss France represents the country currently being violently torn by ethnic and religious strife, yet she clings tenaciously to the values of openness, diversity and inclusiveness. In her interviews, she expresses her pride in her country’s openness to refugees and immigrants, and elation at the diversity that enriches its social fabric. Truly, confidently beautiful!

In today’s wired world, beauty pageantry is evolving. To survive, it has to be able to talk sensibly to billions up close and personal. The choice of a credible and intelligent spokesperson is a must. MU chose the deserving one. And what a line up of choices in the Top 13—all women of substance! (Although I would have loved Miss Kenya to be in the Top 3, and Miss Sri Lanka to be part of the Top 13!)
