    1. .. may mali sa pag interpret…ng interpreter… “Significant Change…..into… ” makabuluhang naganap na pangyayari na nakita mo sa loob ng sampung taon..” ng sinagot niya sa English… the judges would make an impression that she is unresponsive….in fact, she was responsive to the tagalog question… OO nga naman ang Miss Universe para sa kanya ang makabuluhang pangyayari na nakita niya…. However the real issue in the question is “SIGNIFICANT CHANGE”..
    2. mahirap din sa kanya ang mag answer sa Tagalog.. because she was not being rehearsed and used to it…She was trained to answer the question in English for more than a year…. at biglang sabihin magtagalog ka na lang na walang practice… Di mo kakayanin sa pressure pa lang… Di mo kakayanin kung paano mo sisimulan sa tagalog ang isasagot.
    3. alanganin kang sumagot sa English dahil maraming nag aabang na grammarian or the best description is GRAMMARIST sa paligid..Na-conscious tuloy siya sa pag sagot….
    4. saka mahirap sagutin ang tanong…in a few seconds, kailangan mong mag recollect ng mga events that has a significant change in the world for the past 10 years? at pumili doon kung ano ang isasagot.?. buti sana kung homework yan. makapag research ka pa at makapagsagot ng bonggang-bongga.

    Please let us be HAPPY for her…. she made us proud by making it to the TOP 6…. malaking karangalan na iyon para sa bansa natin. Kung di sana sumali sina Miss Kenya, Colombia, France, Thailand, at Haiti eh di siya sana yung nanalo..

But when Miss France answered her question during the top 6, I knew she got it even when Miss Haiti and Miss Colombia did very well, too. The question and the answer that Miss France gave is very relevant to what’s happening today in the U.S. with Pres. Trumps executive order. He banned entry to the U.S. from 7 Muslim nations and halted the refugees entry program to the U.S. He’s also working towards taxing Mexican goods to finance building a wall. To top it all, look at what’s happening in her own country (France) with terrorism. So she was indeed the surefire winner that makes Miss Universe in touch with current events and make it really relevant in this world..

    I thought Iris’ answer was better than Haiti’s. It was a very personal failure that she shared and she has a very upbeat message about having other opportunities.

    Haiti’s failure was not an actual failure. Her exhortation was also very pageant patty, although the delivery was definitely good.

    • As much as I would live for Maxine to win, her answer was very lacking and did not speak to a larger cause or connect to a larger global audience (what Sushmita referred to). It’s a shame because she is so beautiful in every way, but she just doesn’t have the quick intelligence that Haiti, France, or even Colombia showed in their answers. I feel bad for Kenya and the question she received. That is hard to answer in 30 seconds. Thailand predictably talked about the King.

    • Was that the case? That’s a bit of a stretch, really. We’re not that shallow here in the US. Miss U [and pageants in general] are not really that popular in the US, and so I don’t think it will cause that much of an uproar if she made the semis, and even if she won. With all the SJWs here though, they may even hail her inclusion in the top 13 because of her Syrian ancestry. Have you seen the news lately, of how people went to the airports to protest Trump’s latest decree?

      I’m thinking of two other possibilities, TBH.

      1. Rumors are Mariam only won because she has wealthy parents who showered the cash-strapped Osmel with mucho dinero. She may have been doomed from the start, not being conventionally beautiful that even Osmel’s magic could do nothing to help her.

      2. Was it true that Mariam was the candidate who stole another candidates Filipiniana gown so she could stand out? Apparently the designers organizing the event knew about it, but it was unclear if the MUO/IMG people were made aware of it. Would it have changed their minds if they found out about her scheming ways?

    Just recently, you showed your humility when you decided to get a stand-by interpreter for the QnA. You are the first MU rep of our country to decide on this, and I love that.       • Gloria Diaz was lucky . Like what some people mentioned here , she wasn’t the prettiest and the most articulate in the batch . In fact , her goodbye speech was very hard to under stand.

        Bilib ako kay Maxine, especially her humility. For a college graduate from a reputable school, hindi ganun kadali magdesisyon to get an interpreter. May kaakibat na pagtataya ng reputasyon iyon. Despite that, Maxine welcomed the idea of getting one to please the Filipino bashers na mga ubod ng galing, at syempre dahil na rin sa kagustuhan n’yang manalo at magbigay ng karangalan sa bansa.

      • @ana, Maxine didn’t sound really bad during BP 2015. She just lost her train of thought after the audience started booing her when she paused to think . But …
        Her interviews post-win showed how uncomfortable she was with public speaking -be it in English or Tagalog… which is not surprising.
        It takes s life time of training to be able to talk well on public . Pia has been in showboz since age 9 so she had a lot of exposures.

      Besides, the reps put themselves in that position to be judged based on their physical appearance among other things . They are in the wrong business if they take it personally.

  206. Past experience with dress rehearsals usually contains majority fillers with a few strong who MUO wants to give more stage practice. This dress rehearsal list confirms my opinion that Brazil and Indonesia are frontrunners and both should go very far. Also confirms Colombia and France’s likely inclusion into semis and probably Top 10. Had to make room for Chile and Curacao who were not on my final short list but close enough (sorry Jamaica and Nicaragua). Philippines’ exclusion is not a surprise, she doesn’t need any more stage practice (although I was very surprised to see Pia go all the way to Top 5 last year during Vegas dress rehearsal). Venezuela’s exclusion isn’t surprising either (I don’t recall Venezuela making any recent dress rehearsal list, I think in the last decade!)

    • My 2 friends who worked in the MU tv production team said that producers make the girls who will be in the top 12-15 practice especially if they are unaware of the possibility that they will be included. Girls who are known to be popular and are good on stage do not need more practice.

      • Yes, Franco. I think Colombia, France, and Indonesia are all in but need more stage time. Curacao and Chile I think are the two surprises (but not really) who need the extra practice too.

        To go through dress rehearsal is just that much more tiring. Why make a ready candidate waste her energy. Plus give some girls who don’t have a chance some stage time.

        I remember when Aileen Leng Damiles went all the way to 1st runner up in dress rehersals in 1996 (was there).

        I remember when Zuleyka Rivera didn’t even bother to do her hair and makeup for dress rehearsals in 2006 (was there).

        I remember when Pia, well, we all know what happened in 2016 … my theory for her dress rehearsal placement was because MUO wanted to give her practice time in her winning blue gown that she didn’t get to wear during prelims (was there too!)

        Even though I am not in Manila, I still feel like I am there today. Need to go to the gym and work off all this adrenaline and nervous energy HAHAHA. Then I’m disconnecting from the web to avoid spoiler alerts due to our West Coast tape delay. Gonna make a special Miss Universe dinner for me and my BF who has never watched Miss Universe ever LOL.

        So happy for my fellow Filipinos making their own Miss Universe memories there at MOA. It should be a good show!

  208. That’s the gown that she should have worn during the prelims. A showstopper! The emerald ballroom dancing gown would have been more appropriate for the red carpet. And Gaffud can finally claim that it’s red carpet style. What a waste of opportunity to be on top during the prelims.

    • I think the green worked as it was different. Red is a very common color. Plus Peru’s big ass red dress centerstage would have overpowered this more subtle one.

      I DO LOVE HER STYLING HERE. Enough with the buns already.

  211. Let’s move on from the gown. Let us instead help by coming up with possible questions and hopefully relay it to Maxine or Nad Bronce (her trainor for Q&A). I know MUO might not touch politics but theu could allude to leadership as it is very timely. They might as questions like “What is an effective way to influence the public as a leader?”

      What about women’s equality in the current world? Does she think that women have achieved that goal? Why or why not?

      Pia was asked a political question last year. Being Miss Universe, you need to stay in tuned with the current events. I would also let them prepare Max with events unfolding in the US and Europe, especially with the recent ban on Muslims on US soil and Brexit. What is Maxine’s stance on these events? It’s not just about “We need world peace. I thank you.” anymore. Max needs to make her answer short but strong in words.

    • They didn’t include Maxine coz of the loud Pinoy crowd during rehearsals. The loud cheering is ok live, but during rehearsal it is too distracting. I’m confident that Maxine will be in the top 6, if not, I will doubt the fairness of judging.

    • The gown is nice and I like it, but you are right, it takes the focus away from her face. However, from photos I’ve seen, Maxine seem comfortable and happy with it. And Maxine always look good with anything, so I’m really not worried. Wish we could see though the Rhett Eala gown she was supposed to wear.

    • I think that’s not the real reason. I think with the final gown, Jonas keeps changing the plan based on different factors like stage backdrop,lighting, other candidates gown, stage blocking etc.. Everything needs to complement and highlight Maxine, and you can only make good assesment when everything is already in place which only happens from rehearsals to prelim. The plan keeps changing up until the last minute. And I think this is why A&Q is good at what they’re doing.

    • The design of this green gown is certainly unique & impactful. And It’s certainly well constructed & very luxe, very alta. With all due respect to the designer, however, it lack youthfulness (to my eye at least) & it also doesn’t look very Rhett. Perhaps he was designing out of his comfort zone–? Rhett does understated with subtle details that give his designs that touch of luxury. Not to say a designer can’t evolve, but bell sleeves just don’t seem to fit into the design vocabulary of Rhett’s work.
