Clara Sosa of Paraguay wins Miss Grand International 2018

It was such a dramatic announcement of the Miss Grand International 2018 winner as Clara Sosa of Paraguay fainted (left photo) as soon as she heard her country name called.

She was revived immediately after. And was able to get her crowning moment and victory walk.

Her court includes:
1st RU Meenakshi Chaudhary of India
2nd RU Nadia Purwoko of Indonesia
3rd RU Nicole M. Colón Rivera of Puerto Rico
4th RU Haruka Oda of Japan

As for the non-inclusion of our Miss Philippines Eva Patalinjug even in the Top 20, let us not resort to more negativity or harsh comments. It was not in her destiny to win, let alone figure out well, in the competition. I still could not believe the snub, but let’s just move on from this.

  3. Eva peaked before the prelims started. Naubusan siya ng reserba. To borrow from Shamcey’s words, know when to peak.

    • Yan na naman ang putang inang pa know when to peak peak peak ng mga bakla eh. Walang papeak peakpeak bakla! Basta give it you all, yun ang gusto ni Nawat. Eva gave it her all, di lang talaga siya bet ni Nawat. May peak peak ka pa eh different girls, different story bakla. Saksakin kita ng ice peak diyan eh. Kairita sa bangs!

  4. Yeah thats right the biggest event in the pageant world will start on november 3. Lets stop this drama. Win or lose Mas pabor satin ang pageant na may active Advocacy so dun tayo mag seryoso. Don tayo mag focus. Yung rh walang advocacy but we won and deserved nya naman. Pero Iba itong MGI eh. Hinde winowork out ang advocacy. Ang layo ng pinaggagagawa. so lets stop talking about this pageant anymore. Hayaan langawin. may publicity pa silang nalalaman. Gayagaya talaga sa MU.
    Pero mas nakakaloka na nag ist runner si india. I mean mostly sa mga pages si india ang panalo sa prediction nila. Even us we knew that india will get the golden crown After she performed during prelim. Nagpapaka unpredictable na din ang mgi hihi.

    • Exactly. The real grandslam season starts with Miss International. Let’s focus our energies starting from there:) and then to the other two oldest pageants. If our representatives do well in them, our cup as powerhouse will still run over.

      • Hi Catrionafan, although I respect both ME (it’s environmental advocacy speaks to me) and MS (appreciate their “Victoria Secret-like” ramps) and also follow them, I prefer those pageants with long history because their longevity is proof in itself of their viability and seriousness of purpose. It’s just me.

    • Your comment made my day haha. On video, quite a number of people were rushing up to the stage. Someone may have given her CPR “to revive her”:)) who knows exactly what happened because the camera zoomed out. Immediately at the moment of her fainting, Xian looked stunned. Miss India was looking around for people to help (good lady). The other contestants were just standing there and continued clapping. So much drama.

  9. Insiders news. The two Indonesians judges gave a very low score to Miss Philippines according to some insiders. Oh well let’s start the war against these Indonesians.

    • The best way to fight this Nawat is not to talk about his pageant period. So paging mga baklush wag nang pag usapan yung pageant na yun. Let’s move on together.

  10. Ano kaya ang score ng 2 indo kay eva? Sana tinaasan pa din nila. Since KF naman ang nagtrain kay ariska noon at dun sa MI nila last year. And i think kf din ngtrain sa rep nila sa MGI right? Pati ung iba parang mag te train din sa pinas sa kf, tsk. Sige KF mag train pa kayo ng kapitbahay!!!! tsk.

  11. Ang sakin she really deserved to place at least in top 20. Her performance was not one of the best but enough to make it in the ist cut. Siguro sa score pang huli sya pang 20 spot ng score nya. I think the reasons why she didnt placed are she tripped( i think inis na si nawatt sa mga ganung eksena sa pageant nya kahit sa national pageant nya dami nagkaganyan) but its not a good idea to kick someone who tripped. Pwedeng babaan ang score but need pa din i consider ung recovery. Second they have 2 indonesian judges na insecure din sa pinas and they gave a lower score and coz eva trippe during the prelim. But let be honest here. There are things talaga na nagpatalo kay eva bukod sa nabanggit ko. I dont have any problem sa beauty nya since she is really beautiful pero parang sinira nila ng beauty ni eva during prelim. Hairtyle is just okay but the gown is a big NO! Sana pinagsuot sya nga solid dark color gown para mas lumutang ang ganda nya. Hinde din maganda ang cut lalo na sa dulo very common talaga. I know magaling sya magdala but may kulang talaga sa performance nya and d talaga bumagay sa kanya ang gown nya. Her performance is really alanganin lalo na kapag ang judges eh bitter sa pinas mas mababa sa expected score ang ibibigay sa kanya. Medyo dangerous ung pag tripped nya but she recovered naman sana na appreciate p din nila yon pero hinde nila ginawa. Tas nung finals na ganon pa din ang style ng gown same pa din. Make up and hair hinde din on point. I think its not evas fault. Team nya ang may fault. Eva prepared for that pero gaano man ang effort mo tas ganun ang gown at make up and style ang gagawin sayo eh waley pa rin.
    But we need to move on na. Masanay na tayo kay uncle nyo. Pero sana i drop na ng bbp yan or gusto pa din nila then ipanghuli ang miss grand. Panghuli sa 2nd runner up lol. At pag drop na nila yan wag sana kunin ng mwp. Wag sana papauto si arnold kay nawatt. Feel ko kase talaga pag drop ng bbp yan ibibigay ni nawatt yan sa mwp. Ibalik nya nalang kay jdv.
    Anyway! I think alam nyo na kung anong type ang dapat na ipadala natin next year sa pegent ne yen? Wala ako maisip haha. Si samantha bernardo kaya or sandra lemonon? Apriel smith? Wynwyn? Sana next year mga de calibre mga pamabato natin. Matangkad. Latina body. Beautiful face and awra na akma sa bawat title and of course matalino and well spoken.

    • Geoff , Eva didn’t do her part . She did not work out and she did not practice on her pasarela … there was no hunger or enthusiasm shown. It didn’t help that her face is too long and too big for her shoulders .
      Maybe one day, we’ll see her name on the newspaper as the yr’s bar topnotcher .
      Life works that way.
      I know someone who failed law school but graduated valedictorian from the top med school in the Philippines . He topped the med board exam too.
      Eva is in a painful situation now due in part to her lack of prep. But she will rise above it

  15. I agree with the comment, the credibility of the pageant is gleaned with the selection committee. Hence, I Feel that EVA was intentionally excluded for other girls to advance. Eva was a threat from the start. The best way is to get rid of her from the beginning. Can you imagine if she pass the speech and Q and A. It’s her forte. Eva we appreciate your effort we love you from the bottom of our hearts from the OFW community of Italy. Thank you. We hope to see you again in another pageant.

    • Same thoughts… She was indeed a threat…. If she slimed-down and did not trip, Nawat or any1 of the judges would have zero excuse to not include her in the TOP 20.. And then she would reach the speech round and cement her way to the TOP 5.

    • Not at all. I followed the pageant closely and right from a couple of days after arrival she was just in the middle of the pack. Did you see the prelims? Geez. Her body was not up to par even with the neighbor reps. Whether the judges liked her or not, she was not in winning form. I’m very patriotic but objective as well.

  17. Of course it was a snub. Just find out who were the prelim judges. They are scared of Eva to enter top 20 because she knows she’s good in speech. Esp. memorized speech pa naman. Kaya tinaggal na siya

  18. Move na mga veks. I agree Eva should have at least placed in the top 20. I also do not get the Best in Swimsuit if they have a preliminary competition anyway. I didnt mind India or Paraguay in the tough 5 but come on. Indonesia? Nawat is just thinking business and his politics favors Indonesia and Latinas. Too bad he couldn’t let a Filipina win.

  19. Whatever the reasons were for Eva’s non-conclusion, there’s no use arguing about them. It was done. We lost and let’s not linger on it. If BBP still thinks this pageant is relevant and deserves continued investments on, there are lessons to learn. Time and again, this goes to show that facial beauty alone doesn’t necessarily assure a placement these days. If BBP wants to give it up, then let it be. If we focus on bickering on something that has passed, it wouldn’t make a difference anyway and we’re simply stressing ourselves for naught. In the meantime, we have current representatives who still have the change to be successful in their respective pageants – the bigger and more institutional ones. I hope we will not waver in sustaining our support for each of them. Let us not be complacent and learn from those countries that lost their powerhouse statuses because they winked and sat on their (lost) laurels. Penny for your thoughts.

  20. I told you. mahihirapan si Eva dito. Beauty wise – no doubt she has it. BUT.. MGI yan. more like trophy queen ang gusto nila. you must have an amazing physique. look at the top 5.. Eva is beautiful but her overall aura and physique.. malayo compared sa iba lalo na sa latinas. mahirap talaga makipagsabayan.

    Hindi talaga para sakanya. so hayaan na natin.

    • Well we cant blame people for expecting. I mean, no offense to Elziabeth Clenci pero she’s not the glamazon type either pero 2nd RU ni Angkol. If anything, siguro yung overall styling ni Eva ang may problema kasi nawash out sya talaga

  21. During the prelim show when an Indonesian judge was introduced as one of the judges..well as expected insecurities reigned and quite expecting Eva might be scored low by that judge..thats all..

    • Ivan Gunawan (the Indonesian judge) was actually the handler of last year’s Miss Indonesia who didn’t place at all in Miss Universe. He has also been training their Puteri’s so there may be some bias there. Again, we can put two and two together but it will still be speculative.

  22. For those who are saying that Eva had a mediocre performance, please compare her with the other girls who entered the top 20. Russia, New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Sweden.. they just came out of the blue and Eva had a better performance compared to them. Anyway, I’m still proud of Eva.

    • Excuse me, those girls have better bodies than Eva. Especially Kazakhstan! I watched the prelims and some of the events; she caught my attention. There was one time when a staff of MGI talked to Eva, Ms Korea and Ms Kazakhstan while they were seated in a lobby waiting for their closed-door interview. Ms Kazakhstan stood out among the 3 in terms of beauty and carriage. As for Eva, she was noticeable just because she was butting in when Ms Korea was asked a couple of questions. I think Eva didn’t really mean to but that came across as insensitive. The staff must have reported it to Nawat. Pabibo daw ang Ms Philippines. Lol

  23. It was clearly not a snub Tito Norms. From the very beginning Eva’s performance was mediocre and her body proportion was kinda weird. Parang hindi BBP queen.

    Halfway through the pageant I stopped betting on her. Then the foretelling slip. Sabi ko nga sa previous comment ko, that slip was a foreshadowing of her chances that slipped away. Sad but anyway, it was clearly not her destiny but hope she still got some positive takeaway from her experiences at MGI.

  24. The opening salvo to the pageant season is, to be honest, kinda boring to me, with Miss Globe & MGI taking place in the recent weeks. Michelle gave a respectable performance with a Top 15 appearance. MGI is a Miss Universe knock off, minus the prestige, suspense & excitement. Eva is indeed, going to be fine, I’m sure she’s going to be a very good lawyer someday, her non – inclusion in the Top 20 will not make her any less of a person. Keeping my eyes in the Big 4 pageants – International, Earth, World & absolutely, Universe. Intercontinental & Supranational are good side dishes as well. Okay, on to the next pageant – MI & ME.

    • why did ME leave ABS CBN ? … their home station from the very beginning

      • the most common rumor that i am hearing/reading is that it was ABSCBN who did not renew their broadcasting rights with ME. Ayaw na daw ng Dos sa ME. Pero other sources also say na ayaw na daw ng ME na delayed ng 1 week ang telecast nila sa ABS

  25. I’m happy with the result because India and Indonesia did not win .. although their inclusion in the top 5 was prob justifiable . They are in shape and have decent faces.

    I have never been a fan of Eva’s beauty and styling . She really did not prepare for the competition. She was out of shape and her presentations were very tentative . I wonder what happened. Her shoulders looked very weak and she didn’t seem to know whether to turn left or right . And don’t get me started with that bulging belly .

    I guess it’s not about which team they belong to . It depends on the individual candidate.
    Having said that , she seems very kind and smart . So she’ll be fine in the end

  26. When all the “P girls” made it to top 20 except….

    Oh well. The only good thing going for her was her facial beauty. She looked and sounded too rehearsed and unnatural. Her short limbs (arms and legs) made her look like a little girl (in a woman’s face – – which is weird) wearing mommy’s clothes.

    And yeah, Michelle’s face is too manly. Her brother is even prettier.

  27. Michelle: strong facial features, making her look manly specially with broad shoulders.
    Wardrobes didn’t do any justice, make up underwhelming.
    Pasarella walk somewhat stiff, not feeling sexy.

    Eva: roundish facial features, making her look chubby. Broad shoulders, manlyish.
    Wardrobes horrendous, specially the arrival jumpsuit outfit that looks like curtain,
    and the interview outfit that look like mosquito net.
    Pasarella walk too overwhelming, OA, overdone.

  28. Ohh, sila pala ang set of winners this year. I never follow MGI. Walang malinaw na advocacy ang pageant na yan, nanggagamit pa ng pilipino para lang mapag-usapan.

  35. MGI will only crown countries from Americas – Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Rep, Peru and now Paraguay. Only Indonesia is the only non-America winning this pageant.

  36. It’s sucks she didn’t placed or even reached top20………..I just knew from the very beginning there was something off about her………..not sure what it was. Perhaps her overall body/robotic pageantry communication skills…………or cookie cutter look??? Pretty yes………..but for international level maybe no??? She can try Miss Earth or MWP???

    I can’t understand why Puerto Rico and Indonesia are in the top 5. Japan deserves higher placing, even the crown but Paraguay is definitely the best among Latinas. Her swimsuit presentations have all been almost perfect.

    Why no Sweden in top 5 ? Pinas deserves to be in top 5 too… Let us just make sure that Thailand never wins ME.

    • Why no Sweden in top 5? Because Nawat is anti-European. Look back at the history of top 5 – only 2 European made the top 5 so far. MGI is also racist – only one black delegate made the top 5 and she got dethroned.

    • designer ng damit nila sa prod ng MGI ay Indonesian at isa sa mga judge tapos sa Ariska (Indonesia MGI ) judge din. ung mga judges nila ay ung tipong papageant ng mga bkla sa Pinas na may ari , past winners at kaibigan lang mga judge hahahahahahah sila sila lang hahaha

  38. It was an intentional non-inclusion of Eva to draw attention to their tacky pageant. I think we should refrain from bashing because that’s what they want, to go viral. Deadma lang, move on, and save your energy elsewhere.

  39. Eva deserved a top 20 spot at the very least. Kakaloka si Paraguay sabi nya magpapass out daw sya, hinimatay nga hihihi I hope she’s okay now though.
