Thirty-three (33) Eco Angels are on the hunt for Miss Philippines Earth 2020. They now comprise the first-ever Official Candidates for the national pageant’s virtual edition that signals the beginning of a fresh chapter in Philippine pageantry this side of the new normal.
So far, the organizers have already started the online talent competitions, COVID-19 Craze Outfit Challenge and the frequent online discussions about environmental concerns related to the crisis. For months now, the ladies have also remained active in their individual pageant-related posts to make their social media presence more significant.
Soon (or by the end of June perhaps or early July if you will), one of them will win the crown and become our representative in Miss Earth 2020 which – if the lingering pandemic crisis will affect – is going to be another virtual pageant but on a relatively bigger international scale.
Take a look at them first. I will share my potential strong performers on a separate post.
For the past two days, I’ve been constantly asking the bigwigs of Carousel Productions about their rumored plans of coming up with another first for Miss Philippines Earth 2020. You will remember the noise made when they started the Beauty of Figure Preliminary Judging before where all the candidates wore veils or oversized hats to cover their faces and direct the focus on their individual shapeliness (or lack thereof).
This year, they will be doing a national finals unprecedented in the history of pageants in the Philippines – it will totally be web-based. I have chatted with both Lorraine Schuck and Peachy Veneracion about the possible setup of such. The details are still being ironed out but their individual replies were:
Lorraine Schuck: “Hi Norman, sequence of the show is almost the same naman as our previous shows. I’ll let you know pag nabuo na namin kung pano ma implement. Thanks and keep safe.“
Peachy Veneracion: “…more or less (the) candidates will send us videos taken from their own homes for the pre judging segments, beauty of face, figure and poise, intelligence. Surprise! First to be done! Will keep you updated.”
While the advantages and several disadvantages have started brewing inside my head, I will patiently wait for the final structure of the online pageant itself. By then, I will have a better assessment of its feasibility. But you can already imagine what’s going to happen, right dear readers?
Here are some of the Miss Philippines Earth 2020 candidates in a groupie shortly before the lockdown
For now, my only concern would be to insure that each Eco Angel will be given a fair shot for the titles at stake.
