After Fahsai last year, another Thai-Canadian emerged triumphant in the national stage this 2020.
Amanda Obdam wins Miss Universe Thailand 2020.
Vena Praveenar placed 1st Runner-Up
Polfah Punika Kulsoontornrut placed 2nd Runner-Up
Amanda will represent the Land of Smiles in the next edition of Miss Universe.
Many people are saying that either Punika or Veena should have won. But the way I see it, Thailand wants to play it safe with a representative who can communicate more freely in English so she can complete what Paweensuda failed to accomplish in 2019 – penetrate the Final 3 and hopefully become the 3rd Miss Universe titleholder of Thailand.

The competition is just about down to the wire with my Top 3 choices as the potential successor of the reigning Paweensuda Drouin. Any one among Amanda, Punika and Praveenar can take it all the way. But in the end, I pick Amanda Obdam as my ultimate winner.
Amanda Obdam, my top pick to win Miss Universe Thailand 2020
Miss Universe Thailand 2020 is very active in the Land of Smiles. And by October 10, the successor of last year’s Paweensuda Drouin (who made Top 5 during Miss Universe 2019 in Atlanta) will be known.
The videos below are in Thai. So unless you speak or understand the language, you will just rely on seeing the candidates in motion.
At any rate, below are the ten of the early favorites to win the crown. The most familiar face, of course, is Veena Praveenar Singh.
Sophida Kanchanarin, a 23 year-old Investment Banker from Bangkok who finished a degree in Finance from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, was crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2018 after the Top 2 Q&A showdown which saw her outlasting eventual 1st Runner-Up Thitaree Kasorn.
Jubjib Palita was named 2nd Runner-Up, while Top favorite Praveenar Singh finished 3rd Runner-Up. Thai-Italian Valentine Giardullo Ploy completed the magic circle as 4th Runner-Up.
The 5’7” Ning (the nickname of Sophida) will now represent Thailand in Miss Universe 2018.
In anticipation of Saturday night’s finals of Miss Universe Thailand 2018, the all-important Preliminary Competition was held last night at the Royal Paragon Hall of Siam Paragon in Bangkok.
The forty (40) Official Candidates paraded in Swimsuits and Evening Gowns. Four Special Awards were handed out and the five contenders for the People’s Choice Award were announced.
Miss Earth Hannah’s 2017 Paweensuda Drouin was one of the three hosts.

I have already blogged about the front-runner. Now here is the other hot favorite for Miss Universe Thailand 2018 is Thai-Italian beauty Valentina Giardullo – Ploy who is 24 years old and stands 165cm. She is a musician who can perform acoustic songs like a pro (shades of our very own Catriona Gray’s Talent).
However, I must admit that she is a lot shorter than Vena. And knowing the penchant of Thais for statuesque winners, this could be her setback.
Watch Valentina now during the swimsuit competition of the pageant.
Here is a music video of Valentina doing an Italian song “Secretamente”.
Thai-Indian beauty Vena Praveenar Singh is the heavy favorite to win Miss Universe Thailand 2018 on June 30 at the Royal Paragon Hall of Siam Paragon in Bangkok. This 21 year-old stands 5’10” and is being cheered by Thais everywhere as the lady who can hold a candle to all the earlier confirmed delegates of MU2018 which include our very own Catriona Gray.
Watch the video below after the jump to see her in motion and during an interview in Thai.
