What Is Transformational Leadership?

Transformational leadership focuses on empowering others and inspiring change. To achieve these ends, transformational leaders instill a sense of ownership and participation—in their teams and in themselves—by utilizing the four “I’s” of transformational leadership:

* Intellectual stimulation encourages innovative thinking by emphasizing new experiences and growth opportunities.
* Individual consideration builds positive relationships by mentoring employees and helping each person understand their value and potential.
* Inspirational motivation models a vision for the organization, the team and for employees to emulate and make their own.
* Idealized influence models expectations and actions for employees, earning their trust and respect.

‌These four “I’s” provide the foundational philosophy of transformational leadership, helping to differentiate it from leadership philosophies with a similar style, such as visionary leadership, and even complement those styles with opposite approaches, such as transactional leadership.

The descriptions above may be too academic to apply them to pageantry. But getting salient points should give us a good starting point in looking for Miss Universe Philippines 2023 who will be our Transformational Filipina in El Salvador by November-December this year.

Using the four “I’s” above, we may need someone who is smart enough to get her creative juices or that of others going. She is an agent-of-change-in-progress, if you will.

She should ideally be involved in an ongoing project where people take inspiration from her words of wisdom or participation. She also has to foster unity among them.

You can call it an advocacy or an active part in a charity or non-governmental organization, but she needs to show more than lip service in her involvement and the passion to get her hands-on touch to the same.

So are we ready to tread carefully on that newly-constructed road to Miss Universe success? I guess the hard part is looking for the best benchmark. But if MUPH scouts deep enough, there may already be a couple of previous joiners who fit the bill. We can take cues from the likes of Pauline Amelinckx, Julia Saubier, or even Vanessa Caro (watch video below) and Ghenesis Latugat to some extent.
