As reported/confirmed by different reputable pageant/entertainment sites, the selection committee of the 70th Miss Universe will be an all-female panel made up of different personalities from seven different origins. It reads like a Top 7 where the countries of France, Israel, the Philippines, Brazil, Puerto Rico, USA and India are represented. Now will these seven ladies favor the bets of their respective countries. Maybe. But I’m not leaning on it.
There is the 65th Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere, Miss Universe 1976 Rina Mor (nee Messinger), Philippine actress Marian Rivera-Dantes, Brazilian Supermodel Adriana Lima, Puerto Rican celebrity Adamari Lopez, model/influencer Lori Harvey and former Miss India Universe Urvashi Rautela.
There are other names that floated, like Patrick Starr, Coco Rocha, Tali Eshkoli, Lyrica Okano and Daniel Rubino. But it is possible that there will be a different set of judges for Preliminaries and Finals. I would rather have the same set of panelists from start to finish, though.

The new Miss Universe India 2012, Shilpa Singh
It’s now official.
20 year-old Shilpa Singh is the new I AM SHE Miss Universe India 2012 following Urvashi Rautela’s abdication of the title she won just less than a month ago.
Urvashi (left photo) was born February 25, 1994, thus, in violation of the Miss Universe ruling which states that a participant should be at least 18 years old by February 1 of the competing year.
Could be a blessing in disguise for India after all. I believe Shilpa is a better candidate than Urvashi.
Miss Universe India 2012 Urvashi Rautela
There was a time during the 90s and up to the mid-years of the new millennium when India lorded it over a majority of international beauty pageants around the world. Name it and the mere presence of the Indian candidate was enough to strike a major feeling of threat among the contenders. In Miss Universe alone, their golden years spanned from 1990-2007 when two of their own captured the crown with several others either making it as runners-up or placing well in the rankings.
But that was then. Of late, their MU representatives were not as fortunate to create an impact strong enough to sustain an excellent record in the annual beauty derby. When MU1994 Sushmita Sen started I AM SHE back in 2010, pageant followers were optimistic that she can restore the glory of Indian women in Donald Trump’s game. However, Ushoshi Sengupta and Vasuki Sunkavali failed to deliver as well.
Here comes Urvashi Rautela for Miss Universe 2012. Will she be the answer to what India has been looking for in the past decade? Or will she go the same route of her two predecessors who came and went without leaving a mark abroad?
What say you, dear readers? 😉
