Just when you thought beauty queens are simply made of crowns, scepters, gowns, swimsuits and all that glamour, think again. Reigning Miss Philippines Earth 2009 Sandra Seifert (who is set to represent the Philippines in the upcoming Miss Earth 2009 scheduled middle of next month) is not about to take the disastrous events of the past week and a half sitting down, so she organized something to give some relief to the some of the neighborhoods in Pasig and Cainta, Rizal. This was made possible with the help of Miss Earth Foundation.
I am quoting in full her personal account of the above:
“Last September 29, I grouped up some friends to join the outreach food program organized by the Miss Earth Foundation. Although we were suppose to meet the other Ms Philippines winners and runners-up at Planters Elementary School, heavy traffic and an unclear path lead us to another evacuation center in need of a hearty warm meal: May Bunga Elementary School, Pasig.
After 4 hours of driving, we arrived at the location we happened to have “driven by”, and were immediately welcomed by volunteers (in blue shirts). We asked everyone to line up, prioritizing children and the elderly, respectively.
Our menu for the night offered them Sopas (creamy pasta soup). Spaghetti Bolognese, and Special Pansit Palabok, each accompanied by fresh pandesal 😉 While the food was being served, the Barangay heads announced my visit on the mic which I thought was very welcoming despite our unexpected trip 🙂
Stefano, Nic, Alexis, Tita Eleanor, Robbie, John, Joel, and I were all touched and happy to see the smiles of excitement and gratefulness on their faces… Once everyone had received their share of dinner, they all listened attentively to my message encouraging them not to lose hope in life, be prepared mentally for the upcoming storms, keep healthy, vote wisely during the upcoming elections, reduce and segregate their waste, prioritize their education and most importantly be pro-active and NOT lazy in life… I also promised them that through my own role as Miss Philippines I will make sure that i will continue to use this title as an influential tool to address their needs and concerns in achieving a better and more productive future for Filipinos when speaking with major organizations and corporations, as well as politicians and non-governmental groups.
Feeding 300 people a meal is not just rewarding, but an opportunity to give back and confirm what we Filipinos are really known for: our hospitality, especially among our own countrymen.
I urge you all to continue to reach out while keeping safe. I know God is very proud of all of us. God bless you all” 🙂
Location: Floodway, Pasig/Cainta

Let it be known that this is not the only relief effort that Miss Philippines Earth and other beauties in the same group have participated in. Just goes to show that they have more to offer than just flash smiles and do catwalks.
