The much anticipated 2022 Miss Universe Philippines edition promises to be one of the biggest and grandest staging the country has seen. Pageant fans from all over the world are excited to see some of their favorite Miss Universes reunite along with the reigning Miss Universe 2021, Harnaaz Sandhu and Miss Universe 2021 Top 5, Beatrice Luigi Gomez.
One of the hosts for the Finals is the beautiful Miss Universe 2017, Demi Leigh Nel-Peters Tebow. Filipinos remember her too as the one who crowned Catriona Gray, Miss Universe 2018.
The Miss Universe Philippines Organization is thankful to Demi- Leigh Tebow for being so gracious in accepting the invitation to co- host the Finals Night. Aside from the pageant activities, Demi-Leigh will visit the Tim Tebow Foundation in Davao City. Interestingly, her husband Tim Tebow established the Tebow CURE Hospital located in Davao City which provides physical and spritual healing to children.
Miss Universe Philippines Director of Communications, Voltaire Tayag, caught up with Demi-Leigh to get her thoughts on her upcoming visit.
Q: How did you feel/react when you were invited to be a host for MUPh 2022?
A: I’m definitely very honored to be invited to host this year. The Philippines is a very special place to my husband and me. It was the first country I visited as Miss Universe 2017, and my husband was actually born in the Philippines so it’s very close to both of our hearts. We have various philanthropic efforts in the Philippines where we’re passionate about fighting for people that can’t fight for themselves. One of our favorite places is the Tebow CURE Hospital in Davao City. The Tebow CURE Hospital offers physical and spiritual healing to children in need of orthopedic surgeries. Another special place close to our hearts is the Village of Hope in partnership with Compassionate Hope that provides a safe and loving home for children who were victims of Online Sexual Exploitation of Children. I’m excited to see everyone from the MUPh organization as well as visit some of our philanthropic organizations during our stay!
Q: What is your fondest memory of the Philippines?
A: One of my fondest memories of the Philippines is when I visited the Philippines for the first time as Miss Universe. Getting to know the people, the culture, and eating halo halo for the first time were all such an amazing experience. I also got to visit Batanes which was beautiful, and just getting to explore the area was truly memorable. Another fond memory was getting to film campaigns with Pia and Iris, my fellow Miss Universe sisters, who I’m so excited to be co-hosting with this year!
Q: What are you looking forward to your upcoming visit to Manila?
A: I am so excited to be reunited with some of my Miss Universe Philippines family and other Miss Universe sisters, like Pia, Catriona and Iris, and also meet Harnaaz for the first time! I’m excited to be able to speak to all of the finalists about the importance of purpose, and to learn more about their advocacies and philanthropic work. I can’t wait to learn more about the things they are passionate about because I truly believe each of us is born with a purpose and a goal in this life, and our purpose is usually not about ourselves at all. It’s truly how we use our purpose and passion to impact our country, our communities and ultimately our world. All of these 16 finalist have so much to offer, and I’m excited to see how they will use what they have to impact their communities and country.
Q: Is there a Filipino delicacy /food that you are excited to eat again or want to try?
A: Definitely Mango and sticky rice, and halo halo! The Philippines definitely have some of the best mangos I’ve ever tasted.
