Today is the 1st of December – the 355th day of the year in the Gregorian Calendar, the official start of the 12th month of the year, and the chronological indication that Christmas is, indeed, literally nearing the corner’s bend.
So what to do….what to do…what to do to make this month more memorable than the last? Here are suggestions:
December 1: After waking up, thank God more joyously that you have one more day to live.
December 2: Double-check your Christmas shopping list and reconcile the same with your budget (or whatever’s left of it in your mind).
December 3: Tonight, watch the Live Finale of “Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Showdown” at 8PM on GMA-7. See if Akihiro, Aubrey, Ervic or Solenn will take home the P3M cash prize!
December 4: Tonight, watch the Miss Earth 2010 coronation night. In the Philippines, you have two options: the 9pm broadcast on cable channel StarWorld or the later telecast of ABS-CBN Channel 2.
December 5: The 2nd Sunday of Advent….Don’t forget to hear mass….and for a change….listen to the homily more intently. If you haven’t put up that Christmas Tree yet, then this afternoon is the best time to do so! A Christmas lantern (and more) will get the facade of your house into the groove.
December 6: First monday of the month…back to work after the weekend….undertake to complete your unfinished tasks in the office that were left hanging the Friday before. Tonight, Puso ng Pasko Artista Challenge will start on GMA-7. Watch for it!
December 7: If your company gets into one of those Holiday mood-inducers by way of Kris Kringle, plan the small tokens that you will give to your baby. It really sucks when you receive something that was bought at the last minute and not even matching the theme of the day.
December 8: Today is the feast day of the Immaculate Conception and you know what that means (for Catholics, that is)….this is a Holy Day of Obligation so make doubly sure that you hear mass before the night ends.
December 9: Have you planned out your Noche Buena? Well, now is a good time to make a shortlist of the variety of food stuff that you will serve to family and friends on Christmas Eve. Alternatively, if you have made your assignment and wish to place orders instead of cooking them yourself, you might as well be heading to that restaurant or food supplier so that the same gets logged in before the big crowds come in droves. Also, the Amazing Race Asia 4 will have its Season Finale tonight on AXN. See if the Richards will win for the Philippines!
December 10: Another friday…have you completed your shopping or gift-hunting by now? If not, then there are weekend bazaars all over the country to solve the dilemma. What’s more, the shopping malls have come up with all sort of promotions to attract your wallet (or your plastics for that matter.)
December 11: This is a true-blue Shopping Day…’nuff said.
December 12: Sunday mass, lunch with family and more shopping!
December 13: Most of you must have received your 13th Month Pays and Christmas bonuses by now, so what better way to balance out your expenses by setting aside some money for post-Christmas/pre-New Year activities because there will surely be two long weekends by then. Tonight, the finale of The Amazing Race 17 will air on AXN at 7:15 PM.
December 14: Ok, not to spoil your Holiday Spirit but work beckons. Remember, your office mood will most likely be sluggish by the 3rd week of the month so better give your desk or field duties some extra seriousness before the Christmas bug finally stings!
December 15: Payday! Count your blessings, pay your credit card bills on time and be happy with whatever gets to be spared in your pockets!
December 16: The start of Simbang Gabi (Midnight Mass)! Wake up early, wash your face, hear mass and then feast on Bibingka & Puto Bumbong afterwards. Yum!
December 17: Did you miss Midnight Mass yesterday? Then you can still make it this morning. Besides, it’s a Friday so looking forward to the weekend makes you more lively and energetic!
December 18: By now, Christmas Parties are being celebrated all over. In companies and offices, the celebrations come one after another. Make sure that you take part in the fun! Give your all in presentations and cross your fingers when raffle time arrives!
December 19: After hearing mass, check your shopping list again. Hopefully, you’re at least 85% into the gift-buying frenzy because postponing it for the following week will stress you to no end.
December 20: It’s Christmas Week! Start the day by making your first of many Happy Birthday greetings to Jesus Christ. After all, he is the reason for the season!
December 21: Have you actually started wrapping all your gifts? By this time, everything should be ready for giving or already displayed under the Christmas Tree at home!
December 22 and 23: For most, either of these two days could be the last full working day of the year. If so, then clean up your workspace before leaving the office. Unplug your PCs and other electronics. And make sure you give a small token of appreciation to the janitor or cleaning lady or ever-smiling security guard before heading for home.
December 24: The Day before Christmas! Is everything in order? Gifts? Food? Have all your guest confirmed for tonight? If it’s potluck for Noche Buena, have you confirmed with the respective individuals on what they are assigned to bring? Also, don’t forget to have a bottle or two of Champagne (or White Zinfandel in my case) chilled!

December 25: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JESUS CHRIST! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! Don’t forget to hear mass today! And please….don’t hide from your godchildren! They will surely come knocking on your doors the whole day!
December 26: Post-Christmas blues for some….hangover for the others….or simply a time to take a long rest! or why not take part in a Charity Project inside the Malls or in your village?
December 27: Are you a firecracker type of person who doesn’t let New Year’s Eve pass without letting out the biggest bang in your neighborhood? Well, you should be buying some fireworks today.
December 28: It’s Ninos Inocentes (Holy Innocents’s Day or Childermas) today! If you failed to pull some wholesome pranks on your friends last April Fools’ Day, then get into the spirit of fun by doing some. Just make sure you don’t overdo it!
December 29: If you haven’t planned for a quick trip to Hongkong or SIngapore or Bangkok, then you’re better off staying home and getting more rest or….If I may offer a suggestion, why not watch a movie or two being shown for the Metro Manila Film Festival? Supporting the local film industry by doing this can go a long way. Besides, there are some very good entries this year….most particularly “Rosario“.
December 30: What? It’s only two days before 2011? Time flies so fast! You got to stock up on some beer and finger foods because the following evening is going to be a lot of fun, drinking and merriment with friends and family!
December 31: The last day of the month and of the year! in the morning before finally getting out of bed, take stock of what happened in your life for the entire year….try making a resolution or two that will really work for you….and then thank God that another year will pass. Pray for a more bountiful and peaceful year ahead. Afterwards, get up, get dressed and get ready for New Year’s Eve Celebration! Remember, if you love fireworks galore, just keep your extremities in check all the time. You wouldn’t want to lose a finger or toe by the time 2011 comes!
Whew! That was quite a list! And I did it spontaneously! if you want to add more, feel free to post your reply/ies! š
