Metro Mag's June 2015 has Georgina Wilson and Solenn Heussaff as the other cover girls for this special issue.
If you still don’t have the June 2015 issue of Metro Magazine, then make sure you grab a copy now. You’ll be in for a double whammy of sorts. Aside from the beauty feature on our Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Queens – Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Janicel Lubina, Christi Lynn McGarry, Rogelie Catacutan and Ann Colis – the cover girl (at least one of the three in this special fashion issue) is Fil-American Kelsey Merritt who is being buzzed about as possibly joining Bb. Pilipinas 2016 under the Aces & Queens camp. Of course, it’s still too early to tell if she is indeed dead serious about making that move. But this early, it should fan the flames of excitement among pageant fans and followers who never cease to check out on all the potential joiners in the nationals.

By the way, this issue is a two-cover special (with besties Georgina Wilson and Solenn Heussaff as the other glossy front-liners), but I suggest that you specifically pick out the one with Kelsey (above photo) in that very furry shot. 😉
P.S. Below is a short vid of Kelsey showing some BTS of her shoot for Abby Jocson last April, 2015.
On this, the 7th and last day of our theme this week, I give you “Temptation Island” which is the most popular Filipino movie that had a beauty pageant at the core of its plot. The original, directed by the late Joey Gosiengfiao and released back in 1980, was actually interesting because it starred a number of actual beauty queens (Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1977 Jennifer Cortez, Miss Maja Pilipinas Bambi Arambulo and Azenith Briones) and immediately achieved cult-classic status that encouraged a 2011 remake from Director Chris Martinez and casted popular stars (Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe and Solenn Heussaff) instead.
Watch the original and click on the trailer of the remake. Tell me which one floats your boat better. 😉
The first video is the full version of the original released in 1980.

Just when I thought that Lorraine Kendrickson is leading the way among the Kagandahang Flores OC qualifiers for Miss World Philippines 2014, enter Fil-British Rachel Louise Peters who wants everyone to know that she means serious business in the competition.
More than the trite comparison to celebrity Solenn Heussaff, Rachel projects an attention-grabbing aura that is unmistakably hers alone. She oozes confidence. And with keen observation, any pageant watcher will detect the small and precise nuances in her moves that shout a potential winner’s profile in motion.
This girl started to whet my appetite during yesterday’s announcement of Miss World Philippines 2014 Official Candidates. It bears watching how she will gradually turn on the heat even more in the coming weeks of pre-pageant activities.
Wearing her black evening gown, Rachel is a stunning presence.
I can only agree that, indeed, she could be the secret weapon of KF. But then again, we already knew her intentions of joining way before the screenings. So let me re-christen Rachel Peters as the beauty camp’s deadly weapon. 😉
Upon first glance, I really thought I was staring at a photo of TV/Film Personality Solenn Heussaff. But after realizing that the girl in the picture above is Fil-British Rachel Peters after her make-up transformation, I was certainly surprised. And in a positive way.
You see, if we are to compare her photo (during a fashion show at Fisher Mall) on the left, the changes are amazing. With the meticulous strokes of a brush and the expert hands of a topnotch make-up artist, the results can be really outstanding.
Rachel is busy preparing herself for the Miss World Philippines 2014 screenings scheduled this month. And just like the earlier-reported joiners this year, she is giving her 100% in covering all bases (like her reported BWAP activity with Hablondawani below) to insure that she has a good fighting chance for the crown. 😉
For the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival, Regal Entertainment presents the only full-length drama in the roster of movies this year. “Yesterday Today Tomorrow” is a star-studded production which, according to Director/Scriptwriter Jun Lana, is “…about what happens to a family when faced with a tragedy and how it changes each and every member and how they deal with the tragedy that befalls them.”
Heading the cast are Maricel Soriano and Gabby Concepcion in their comeback team-up for the big screen. Joining them are Dennis Trillo, Carla Abellana, Jericho Rosales, Lovi Poe, Solenn Heussaff, Paulo Avelino, Ronaldo Valdez, Agot Isidro and introducing Eula Caballero.
I love big family dramas and this being the only movie of the genre in the MMFF, I will surely queue during the long weekend before New Year.
Watch out for “Yesterday Today Tomorrow” starting December 25.
The day has arrived. The remake of Temptation Island opens nationwide today. If you’re a big fan of the original cult classic, watch this one to see how Director Chris Martinez pays homage to the late mother creator, Joey Gosiengfiao. And if you’re just plain curious, check it out because I’m pretty sure it will be an all-out fun flick to spend two hours of your time with. 😉

As my week is pretty full at work, I’m scheduled to watch it (with two of my friends-contemporaries) this coming Saturday….first screening! 🙂
Before the much-awaited remake of Temptation Island hits the multiplexes next month, why not watch the original cult classic which inspired the new version? The quartet characters of Azenith Briones, Dina Bonnevie, Jennifer Cortez and Bambi Arambulo will be given fresh takes by new leads Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe and Solenn Heussaff, respectively. What’s more the latter will have names made famous by past Joey Gosienfiao movies such as Christina, Virginia P., Pura and Serafina. The four will share the screen with leading men Aljur Abrenica, Tom Rodriguez, Mikael Daez (who took over the role originally meant for Paulo Avelino after the latter contracted pneumonia just before the shoot in Ilocos Norte), John “Sweet” Lapus and Rufa Mae Quinto. Director Chris Martinez is pressured to measure up to the campiness of the original, while injecting modern concepts to the same. I wonder how the giant friend chicken and ice cream cone will be shown because those are integral parts during the desert scenes when everyone is starting to freak out due to hunger.
I’m really hyped up for the remake, just as the others who grew up relishing the first in their younger years. Watch now! 😉

Just to whet your appetite even more, here are some photos (courtesy of cast member Rufa Mae Quinto by way of Starmometer.com and Kapuso Central) from the shooting of the Temptation Island remake in Paoay, Ilocos Norte:

Temptation Island (1980) by Regal Films is a cult classic. Whenever people ask me what my guilty pleasure of a Pinoy flick is, this one always comes out on top. And why not? It’s a campy, funny and altogether delightful movie about beauty queens stranded on a deserted island. Add to that the presence of three sexy men in the mix plus one loud-mouth gay pageant socialite & a dumb maid and voila! This Joey Gosiengfiao-directed film was such a joy to watch over and over again.
The original cast included Dina Bonnevie (as Dina Espinola), Jennifer Cortez (as Suzanne Reyes), Bambi Arambulo (as Bambi Belisario), Azenith Briones (as Azenith Tobias), Deborah Sun (as the maid Maria), Ricky Belmonte (as Ricardo), Alfie Anido (as Umberto), Domingo Sabado (as Umberto) and Jonas Sebastian (as Joshua, the pageant chaperone).
Memorable parts I can distinctly remember were a fantasy scene in the high sands where the ladies were shown licking a gigantic ice cream cone to cool off the heat and a cannibalistic sequence where they had to eat the flesh of a dead companion to survive.
Let me help you reminisce a bit about the original Temptation Island via this video:

Marian Rivera is picked to head the cast of the Temptation Island remake.
This year, Regal Entertainment has decided that it’s high time for a remake of Temptation Island and I sincerely hope that they come up with an equally entertaining version that can even eclipse the original.
So far, the names circulating in the grapevine to be part of the cast are Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe and Solenn Heussaff (for the roles of the beauty queens), Pokwang (for the role of the maid), Jake Cuenca and Aljur Abrenica (for the roles of Alfredo and Umberto, respectively) and John Lapus (for the Joshua role). I’m still unsure as to who might play the Ricky Belmonte part, but Zoren Legaspi would be a good choice for the same.
Now if I had to do some matches for the 4 leading ladies, Marian should do Azenith. Heart should do Dina. Lovi should do Suzanne, with Solenn for Bambi. Wouldn’t that be just perfect?
If you were a teener during the 80s, you will definitely be familiar with Temptation Island. Otherwise, believe me when I say that this should be a very interesting remake if done right. 😉
It all started with her participation in GMA-7’s Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Showdown. She was a relative unknown (aside from being tagged as the ex of actor Derek Ramsay and a one-time host of Party Pilipinas) when the reality program started airing months ago. She gradually increased her popularity meter as each week passed. By the time she made it to the Live Finale and the Top 3, Solenn Heussaff is already a household name who is being romantically linked to actor Richard Gutierrez. She may have not won the P3M top prize (Akihiro Sato did), but she is definitely reaping a lot more than that (including the host).
Solenn is now a true-blue Regal baby after she was signed by Mother Lily Monteverde for a multi-picture deal, including one of the lead roles in the remake of the 80s cult classic “Temptation Island.” She is also well on her way to becoming a recording artist when MCA Universal signed her up for a recording deal that should put into full use her beautiful vocals (a blend of jazzy and laid-back sound that sounds so relaxing). On TV, she is now being co-managed (with her original manager Leo Dominguez) by GMA Artist Center and will become one of the leading ladies in the nth resurgence of Captain Barbell. And if that’s not enough, she will star with Richard Gutierrez (again) in a Valentine’s Day trilogy flick. And all throughout, she claims that the two of them are just good friends hanging out (not for long, I reckon).
Now you would think that she has her hands full. Well, think again. She is also an artist. She paints. During the lull before the culmination of Survivor Philippines, she continued with her art works while promoting the show around the Philippines. If memory serves me right, she is finalizing details for her first art exhibit in a month or two.
Let’s hope she can equally juggle all things, maintain a gorgeous face and whistle-bait figure and keep her feet on the ground when her rise to fame becomes inevitable by 2011.
Right after 24 Oras, the Live Finale of Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Showdown will start (around 8pm) on GMA-7.
You have got to watch it to find out who among Akihiro Sato, Aubrey Miles, Ervic Vijandre and Solenn Heussaff will be the 7th member of the Jury and which 3 castaways will finally vie for the title of 1st Celebrity Sole Survivor!
Hi! Norman here. When I'm not working, I spend most of my free time planning on daily blogs. If you will notice, I always make sure that a fresh topic comes out everyday - not an easy thing to do but it's all good. Thanks for dropping by and enjoy the visit!
