This one will happen on May 13 at the Music Hall of SM MOA

This coming May 13 at the Music Hall of the SM Mall of Asia, another edition of the yearly Flores de Mayo will unfold with thirty (30) designers participating with their respective muses and escorts. This is the 38th Flores de Mayo 2017 “Fatima” which will showcase the works of the following individuals (in order of their parade appearances):

Dave Ocampo, Obet Orajay, Nickky Martinez, Johnny Abad, Erich Miñoza, Vince Sityar, Russ Cuevas, Paolo Blanco, Leslie Rivera, Rey Lazaro, Gil Granado, Roy Aquino, Marlo Javier, Jontie Martinez, Joms de Castro, Adam Balasa, Piter Otordos, Louis Pangilinan, Rowell Panlilio, Pencil Diestra, Sonyboy Mindo, Christopher Quejano, Pepe Quitco, Marjorie Lee Gumabay, Ole Morabe, Edwin Uy, Yeye Pantaleon, Chico Estiva, Rholand Roxas and Renee Salud.

Below are twenty-seven of the sketches that you will see come to life on May 13.

Photo Blog: 37th Flores de Mayo “Luwalhati” Winners

It was a successful staging of the 37th Flores de Mayo 2016 at the SM Mall of Asia yesterday afternoon till early evening. Thirty (30) designers – all members of the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines and the Congrecacion del Santisimo Nombre Del Niño Jesus – showed off their best creations while paying homage to the Virgin Mary and the Glorious Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

Announced as Rosa Mystica is Joyce Ann Ricio wearing a Rholand Roxas number that is intricately-detailed from the crown all the way down to the train. Coming in as Reina de las Flores is Bb. Pilipinas 2016 alumna Jeslyn Santos who gave justice to the oh-so breathtaking Louis Pangilinan white ensemble that takes a wide circumference of the stage and the floor area to navigate around. La Flor de Manila is gorgeous Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International 2015 Leren Mae Bautista in an elegant red Filipiniana that she paraded around with such pride and joy. Completing the four winners are Magandang Pilipina Stephany Stefanowitz who was dressed by Designer Vince Sityar in another red original that the wearer handled with such ease and sophiatication.

What’s the month of May without the colorful and beauty-filled Santacruzan or Flores de Mayo taking place everywhere?

Just recently, the SM Mall of Asia played host to their own version of the event at the mall grounds which culminated onstage at the Activity Center area. Familiar names and faces graced the occasion with the likes of Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago, Miss Supranational Philippines 2012/Miss Supranational 2012 3rd Runner-Up Elaine Kay Moll, Miss Philippines Earth 2012/Miss Earth-Air 2012 Stephany Stefanowitz, Bb. Pilipinas alumni Emma Tiglao, Racquel Kabigting and KC Cajanding wearing drop-dead traditional attires to the delight of shoppers and spectators all around.

The rains added more drama. That’s for sure. It’s like force majeure but in an entirely non-calamitous way. Can you imagine a rainy Victory Parade with still so many people in attendance? I’m pretty certain this wouldn’t happen in an ‘I-don’t-care-about-Miss-World’ country had another nation won (you fill in the choices here).

And straight from the wet roadshow, Miss World 2013 Megan Young headed to SM Mall of Asia where more well-wishers and kibitzers trooped in large numbers. A glimpse, a video shot and a quick snap are more than enough to start their weekends right. And to show so much love and adulation for our Queen was something that only the highly appreciative and grateful Filipinos can give. I may sound subjective here, but I haven’t seen a recently victorious Miss World delegate being showered as such.

mwp Everything should have wrapped up quick and fast. With the SM MOA initial screenings over and done with the weekend before last, the final screenings started earlier last week but got bumped to a final extension two days back at Solaire Resort and Casino.

Inspite of being overly pressed for time and all, Ms. Cory Quirino is still bent on conducting fast-track events (including a sports challenge to be handled by Mr. World 2012 1st Runner-Up Andrew Wolff) to determine a few instant qualifiers for the semifinals come August 18. Let’s see how they will be able to squeeze out all the energy of the ladies as they try to hop from one activity to the next in a flurry.

Truth be told, this edition could be the survival of the fittest, the fastest, the smartest and the prettiest – all in the name of expected sleep deprivation, wash-and-wear beautification, quick changes, a dash of wit (hopefully) and a return Business Class ticket to Indonesia for Miss World 2013. Whew! I’m getting exhausted just thinking of how the next three weeks will unfold. 😉

More Miss Earth 2012 activities (and medals)

Nonstop. That’s the best word to describe the hectic schedule of the Miss Earth 2012 ladies. And I’d like to think that they’re all having fun despite the little rest they had to go through. Anyways, next week should be exciting as their next stop will be Palawan where they will bask in the beaches of Puerto Princesa and enjoy a grand tour of the world-renowned Underground River.

Osmariel Villalobos of Venezuela continues to stamp her class above the rest of Group 2 after she was awarded Gold in the Swimsuit Competition at Golden Sunset Resort in Calatagan, Batangas. Coming in at 2nd is USA's Siria Bojorquez, good enough for Silver. Sara Kim of Korea got the Bronze. A non-medal earning award was given to Nathalia Moreira of Spain who was selected Gandang Ricky Reyes.

During the Resort Wear Competition held at Hotel Pontefino in Batangas City, the Gold Medal was won by Osmariel Villalobos of Venezuela, with Ilknur Melus Durasi of Turkey and Fabiana Granados of Costa Rica copping Silver and Bronze, respectively. Meanwhile, a non-medal earning award was handed to Shauny Bult of the Netherlands as Miss Earth Pontefino.

During the Walk With ME held at SM Mall of Asia this time, three ladies stood out as the People's Choices and were awarded medals as follows: Gold - Rocio Castellanos of Dominican Republic, Silver - Nathalia Moreira of Spain and Bronze - Natalia Pereverzeva of Russia.

During the Green Bag Challenge, three winners were awarded for each placement since this was a group activity. Gold was given to Australia, Belize and Belgium. Silver went to Bosnia & Herzegovina, Botswana and Austria. Bronze was co-shared by Singapore, South Africa and Slovak Republic.

A group of Miss Earth delegates did the 'I Love My Planet Earth School Tour' in Makati City led by Tamerin Jardine of South Africa. One lady who had a good time teaching the schoolchildren was Lea Sara Wittwer of Switzerland.

Gold Medalist as 'Fastest Learner' during the Liter of Light Project in San Juan was Darli Pacheco of Puerto Rico (Center, Top Photo), with Silver Medalist Gloria Ofa Blake of New Zealand and Bronze taker Lorraine Ditsebe of Botswana.

To say that the ladies of Miss Earth 2012 will follow a punishing 3-week schedule in the Philippines is a relative understatement. They will literally have all their days filled with never-ending activities that will test their individual determination to prove themselves worthy of winning the crown. The only gaps you can see in the list below are their rehearsal days during the homestretch of the competition.

P.S. I find it disappointing that ABS-CBN relegated the airing of Miss Earth 2012 to a daytime schedule the morning after the coronation night. And they will likely edit the whole thing to fit a tight 2-hour show since the more profitable ASAP Kapamilya will follow the same. Good thing Star World will air it live. But for those without cable TV, they will have to wait until after everyone else has already watched the finals. 😦

UNIQLO Philippines opens this Friday, June 15!

Whenever I visit Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok and Taipei, a trip to the Uniqlo store is always a must. I just love their always current merchandise – be it shirts, round-necks, denims, walking shorts and what-have-yous. The price tags are never exorbitant. And the quality is reliable.

I just love Uniqlo’s Japanese-engineered jeans…the slim straight fits me like a glove!

So just imagine how wide my eyes opened upon learning that the Philippines (with the help of SM) will have its first Uniqlo store opening this coming Friday, June 15. I know that the mystique of not having one in our shores will already disappear, while lessening the appeal of visiting their overseas branches. But it still doesn’t make me lose the interest of buying a Uniqlo item.

Check out the store at SM Mall of Asia and you’ll see what I mean. I’m pretty sure opening day will have an avalanche of customers. If you hate big crowds like I do, then you can schedule a visit another day. 😉

Gwen’s Parade

Late yesterday morning, the motorcade of Miss World 2011 First Princess Gwendoline Ruais was finally held after it was postponed earlier this week due to bad weather. From the GMA Network Center in EDSA all the way to the SM Mall of Asia, she gamely waved and acknowledged the cheers of fans, supporters and onlookers along the way. It took all of two hours before reaching the end point, but she never complained. Accompanying her atop the float were the Miss World Philippines runners-up Nicolette Henson, Chloe McCulley and Jaysel Arrozal.

It was a long and successful journey for Gwen in London and now that she is back home, she’s more than ready to face the next challenge before joining Miss World 2011 Ivian Sarcos and Julia Motley in their world tour come January.

Some showbiz engagements before that, perhaps? 🙂

Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup for Lee Jeans

Coinciding with Philippine Fashion Week 2011, Lee Jeans is celebrating National Denim Day today. Alongside with it, the 2011 Student Design Competition – highlighted by the student-finalists from UP Diliman, DLS-College of Saint Benilde, University of San Carlos Cebu and the University of Santo Tomas – culminates tonight at the Atrium of SM Mall of Asia. The show starts at 7PM.

What makes the event more special is the presence of Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup who is now an official endorser of Lee Jeans. If you want to watch, just head over to the venue and don’t be late so you can get a good seat or standing space. 😉
