After representing Thailand during Miss Earth 2014, Sasi is vying to become the next Miss International Thailand

Sasi Sintawee was never able to formally relinquish her Miss Earth Thailand 2014 crown during Miss Grand Thailand 2015, and this is because the organizers no longer hold the franchise for Miss Earth. So instead of savoring the glorious completion of her reign, she was left in the sidelines with no speech and farewell walk to undertake.

So what next step did Sasi decide on taking? Try her luck in another competition. This time, she has signed up for Miss International Thailand 2015 to hopefully win the right to represent the Land of Smiles in Miss International 2015 and follow the footsteps of last year’s Punika Kulsoontornroot (who got involved in a controversial “ketamine party” incident just recently).

During the recently-held launch of Miss Grand Thailand 2015, there were two (2) noticeable things that stood out. First, Miss Earth Thailand 2014 Sasi Sintawee was not in attendance. Only Miss Grand International 2014 Daryanne Less Garcia, Miss Grand Thailand 2014 Parapadsorn Disdamrong, Miss Intercontinental 2014 Patraporn Wang and Miss Tourism Thailand 2014 Warangkanang Wutthayakorn showed up along with Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil. Second, the logo of Miss Earth was already removed from the list of international pageants the organization will be sending their future winners to.

It doesn’t take a genius to conclude that: 1) they no longer hold the Miss Earth franchise and 2) the presence of Miss Earth Thailand 2014 was no longer required so as not to mislead people into thinking that there will still be one for 2015 coming from their future Official Candidates.

I don’t want to hazard any kind of speculation at this point, although it is also possible Mr. Nawat gave up the franchise. But I am not leaning towards that. Suffice it to say that the next representative to Miss Earth from the Land of Smiles could come from a runner-up in Miss Thailand Universe 2015. Otherwise, a new group will be in-charge.

Is Thailand having its best year ever in international pageantry? Are they going to duplicate what the Philippines achieved last year? Has the time finally come to reap the harvest coming from previous overseas participations that went unnoticed? Will the Land of Smiles continue to shine bright in the true big league of competitions, that is Miss World and Miss Universe? Or is this a string of coincidences that could be dismissed as just good luck in action?

A 2nd Runner-up in Miss International 2014 for Punika Kulsuntornroot, a Top 10 spot in Miss Grand International 2014, a Top 16 placement in Miss Earth 2014, a 1st Runner-up honor in Miss Supranational 2014 and finally, the Miss Intercontinental 2014 crown. Will the streak continue in London and Doral Miami? Will the country finally achieve the Country of the Year status in pageantry? And save for Punika, what could be the role of Mr. Nawatt Itsaragrisil in this series of ‘fortunate’ events happening in succession?

So many questions that could only yield a plethora of answers and interpretations both good and otherwise. What’s your stand, dear readers? 😉

wpid-photogrid_1416732915321.png Normally, I upload my final predictions for an important pageant a day or two before the finals night. But with the ongoing conduct of competitions in different parts of Europe, I decided to share my ultimate choices for Miss Earth 2014 earlier than usual. Besides, I would rather get this out in the open before the calls of Miss World, Miss Supranational and Miss Intercontinental come in quick succession once more.

So which four ladies do I expect to see topping the finals night this coming Saturday? There’s Zaira Bas from Spain who is my pick to win Miss Earth 2014. Add Miss Philippines Jamie Herrell who has performed well enough to secure her top placement. I will also include Andrea Neu of the USA. I believe she has been the best-performing American entry compared to her predecessors in the past few editions. And to complete the quartet, I would slip in Justine McEleney of Northern Ireland. I have a good feeling about this girl.

The next four (4) candidates on my list are no push-overs, though. Sendy Caceres of Paraguay, Alankrita Sahai of India, Eloisa Gutierrez of Bolivia and Anastasia Trysova of Russia are capable of pulling in a pleasant surprise and stealing the limelight from my perceived Elemental Winners. In particular, I trust Sendy as the most likely to go for the jugular here.

But what about the remaining eight (8) contenders pictured above? I’d say that one or two among them can reach Top 8 if they manage to come up with solid presentations for the judges come Saturday. Maira Alexandra Rodriguez of Venezuela, Sasi Sintawee of Thailand or Franceska Toro of Puerto Rico are my bets to do that in this group. At any rate, I don’t see a back-to-back victory for Venezuela, sadly.

Do I see come-from-behind placers among the rest? Most certainly. But I will just allow myself the pleasure of being amused by whoever will make the cut outside of the ones I have short-listed. After all, Miss Earth is also giving high premium on whoever has shown positive compatibility with the organization (read: less headaches), and that could be a relative thing from an outsider’s point of view.

The bottomline: Spain for the win. I would be very happy witnessing this Spanish beauty finally claim her country’s first Miss Earth crown. Seeing Jamie Herrell get the #1 spot won’t make me fall off my seat, but Andrea Neu of the USA is the other possibility I would be happy being crowned as winner. Spain or USA deserve to become Earth’s Top-ranked Warrior for 2014.

Based on the Press Presentation the other day, these ladies are considered the early favorites for Miss Earth 2014. Of course, it’s too premature to make any predictions. But it would do well to watch out for the ones who have created initially positive impacts.

And they are, for starters, the three Darlings of the Press – Jamie Herrell of the Philippines, Maira Alexandra Rodriguez of Venezuela and Franceska Toro of Puerto Rico.

Aside from the named trio, look out for Valerie Huber of Austria, Leticia Silva of Brazil, Aisha Isabella Hansen of Denmark, Laëtizia Penmellen of France, Lydia Marcella Manani of Kenya, Zaira Bas of Spain, Hereata Ellard of Tahiti, Sasi Sintawee of Thailand and Cartier Zagorski of Zambia.

And just to make it sixteen, let’s add four more – Alejandra Villafañe of Colombia, Sydney Van Den Bosch of Hungary, Alankrita Sahai of India and Annisa Ananda Nusyirwan of Indonesia.

A Preview of the 2014 Earth Warriors

image These photo grids make up only 52 of the 89 (or roughly 58%) expected delegates who will participate in Miss Earth 2014. Arrivals have started, initially in trickles. The busload of contenders will be coming in, one after the other, starting today till Sunday, November 9. A few of them will still be checking in Monday, but all heads should already be accounted for by then.

Tuesday, November 11, is the scheduled Press Presentation at the newly-opened Green Sun Hotel in Pasong Tamo Ext. in Makati City.

Sasi Sintawee is not leaving anything to chance. She has seriously prepared for Miss Earth 2014 and will be packing her bags soon for a much-awaited 2nd trip to Manila.

The sweet and beautiful Sasi is also aware of the potential association that her fellow Thai – dethroned Miss Water 2013 Punika Kulsoontornroot – might have dealt in her bid. Be that as it may, she is coming forward with a more committed self that should give the organizers a fresh new perspective of Miss Earth Thailand 2014. She is confident of being the better version of an earth warrior from the Land of Smiles.

Personally, I can’t wait to meet up with Sasi again. I’ve had the pleasure of getting her acquaintance and doing an interview during the training she underwent with Gouldian together with the other Miss Grand Thailand winners last August.

It is always interesting to size up your opponent up close and personal even before the actual competition dates arrive. The other day, Miss Philippines Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell got the chance to meet one of her fellow delegates in Miss Earth 2014 in the person of Sasi Sintawee, Miss Earth Thailand 2014.

You know what happens when two friendly ladies get introduced to each other. Both Jamie and Sasi easily broke the ice and immediately clicked as if they have been pals reunited. Of course, it cannot be denied that they will still be fighting each other for the most earth-friendly crown this side of the pageant world. Regardless, it wouldn’t hurt to get an initial ally prior to battlefield encounters. And if they end up being roommates by November, then there’s no need for major adjustments anymore.

After the dancing and pasarela sessions, Gouldian scheduled the ladies of Miss Grand Thailand 2014 – Pla Disdamrong, Sasi Sintawee, First Wang, Ploy Wutthayakorn and Miss Universe Myanmar 2014 Sharr Eaindra to their make-up (as coordinated by Gouldian’s Gian Quiballo) classes which they met with much excitement. They had fun experimenting on different looks before finally settling with the one that works for them best and photo-worthy enough to upload online as the result of their first transformation. A styling class with Poi Subijano also followed.
