Earlier in the evening, James Alfred Ventura was given his formal sendoff to Mister Global 2017 to be hosted in Chiang Mai, Thailand from May 10-20. He will fly to the Land of Smiles this coming Wednesday.

During the sendoff hosted by Sarah Asido (Binibini14 of the recently concluded Bb. Pilipinas 2017), he presented himself in swimwear and formal wear after exhibiting his dancing skills for the talent segment where he will dance a energetic version of the “Maglalatik“.

Family members, media partners and his team of handlers and supporters graces the occasion to give our bet all the warm wishes and motivation he needs to give his 100% in the big competition up ahead.

Exclusive! A Day with the Binibinis at David’s Salon Academy

The whole of Monday was literally spent by team normannorman.com at the David’s Salon Academy in Makati City where Joy Arguil, Joseph Gerard Jose and I bonded and took photos with the Binibinis of Bb. Pilipinas 2017 upon the exclusive invitation of Marketing Manager Lotte Villarosa-Agraviador. The event started with a short lecture on the role of the salon company in the nationals, followed by delightful games that were gleefully participated in by the ladies and the stylists. Right about lunchtime, everyone was treated to a simple but yummy buffet before the pampering sessions started. Everyone was treated to relaxing back massages, mani/pedi and foot spas that were accompanied by cool loot bags that contained products that will help them maintain healthy hair and nails.

Hair and Make-Up consultations were also made with the assigned stylists for each Binibini and were given experimental approaches as to what facial applications best suit them. And to cap everything off, David’s Salon owner David Charlton dropped by to have group photos with the ladies and even brought them easter egg chocolates which came all the way from London.

There were also fun games that set the mood right for the day

It was fun all throughout, especially for your blogger who really took the opportunity to spend quality time talking to almost everyone. I can now safely say that this is a 99% cool batch of ladies who have the right attitude and personalities to compete for the crowns at stake. Why did I say 99%? Well, you do the math. No batch is uber perfect since there will always be an odd one out in terms of chemistry with everyone. I won’t name a name anymore since she is just one different apple in terms of character and disposition. Who knows, she might still improve her ways and turn out good in less than two weeks’ time.

Allow me also to point out the quality bonding I spent with random Binibinis. I say random because I caught them by their lonesome at given moments and the initial pleasantries turned into more meaningful chats in the process. Big shoutout to #Binibini2 Arienne Calingo, #Binibini19 Rachel Peters, #Binibini20 Christa Borja, #Binibini21 Jamaica Ambal, #Binibini23 Arah Salientes, #Binibini31 Katarina Rodriguez, #Binibini32 Charmaine Elima, #Binibini33 Istie Cequeña, #Binibini37 Sammie Anne Legaspi and #Binibini39 Elizabeth Clenci. I loved practically all of them, though!

Your Binibini14 Sarah Jireh Asido shares with us her Good Friday reflections

Your #Binibini14 Sarah Jireh Asido may not be on the list of favorites among many pageant fans, but this I have to say – she has really blossomed a lot compared to her last participation in the nationals. Apart from that, this licensed teacher from Bulacan is a joy to talk to as she speaks with such an engaging and wholesome personality that one can’t help but fall for her charms.

Sarah is the next-in-line for our Lenten features, and you can really see how spiritual she is as an individual while fighting for one of the Bb. Pilipinas crowns.

“Everyday is a great day to thank God and say our prayers to Him. Having a deeper relationship is what I always aim to have. I grew up being raised by a Christian family. Sundays are spent at our Church and every single day for prayer time and bible study/reading (DEVOTION). Our Church became my home, a home where I was able to discover how amazing God is. It was really nice to have this kind of upbringing where God is always placed at the center! Not just about being spiritual but also being Godly in everything I do is very important. Living a life that is guided by Him is a life worth living.

Whatever I do is all for Him and whatever I have now? Yes, it is all from Him. In every little thing, I always say a prayer. I always acknowledge Him every single moment and ask Him to walk with me and be with me. My whole life was indeed a blessing and full of blessings simply because He is with me.

Amazing it is to be loved by God, and having a life that is filled with His love easily puts me in my own purpose. His will is revealed once you allow Him to work in your life.

Being spiritual and having a deeper relationship with the Lord helps me to be the best that I can be. A life controlled by God is a life we must all have. As a Christian, I always put God first in all I do. He is my solid rock, if not for Him, I won’t be here right now fighting for my dream! He leads me to do the right things. He gives me wisdom, He directs me to the path I need to walk through. Simply, God is my light, He is my way, He is my truth, He is my strength, He is my life. Because of Him, my faith will always be bigger and stronger! My faith in Him drives me to do more without any doubts. And every thing I do is all for His name and glory!”

Sarah may sound preachy above, but she is undeniably caring and grounded – qualities that set her in the right direction for a noble teaching career. But more than that, she wants to be a pride of the Philippines if it is in her fate.

JDV Girls: Silently competing and going for the kill when it matters most

I love the way John dela Vega expresses support for his girls. In one of his Facebook updates, he made a photo collage of the nine Binibinis from Team JDV and stated that they are “silently competing for the crown“. And if I may add to that, one or two of them might just go for the kill when it matters most.

Joy Diaz, Shauna Curran, Sarah Asido, Kenneth Santiago, Racquel Kabigting, Jeslyn Santos, Leona dela Cruz, Krystal Alonday and Vessica Sambo may not be the most hyped or most heralded, but they still know how to make their presence felt. Maybe not to the degree most of us pageant watchers expect, but still enough to make heads turn for some of them. Aside from having the two tallest candidates (Racquel and Kenneth), the camp also has the lady with the most soulful eyes (Vessica Sambo) and the one who possesses the most intriguing mix (Scottish-Igorota Shauna Curran).

I’m pretty sure there is at least one (or two) among them who will surprise on March 30. Who could it be? 😉

Twelve (12) ladies qualified to perform during the Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Talent Show at the Farmers Mall Activity Area.

Four (4) of them sang – Hannah Ruth Sison, Shauna Curran, Jeslyn Santos and Gab Tilokani. The remaining eight (8) danced – Kris Tiffany Janson, MJ Lastimosa, Aiza Faeldonia, Angelique de Leon, Sarah Asido, Vanessa Saliba, Joana Angelica Romero and Emma Tiglao.

And only one (1) will be chosen as Miss Talent to be announced on March 30. I have a feeling it will be one of the vocalists getting this one. 😉

What’s Valentine’s Day without sharing the love? And so, I would like to share some (plus a dash of attention thrown in for good measure) by featuring six ladies among the forty (40) Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Official Candidates who have not been getting as much blog-time, be it here or in other sites. This line-up wouldn’t be where they are standing now if they did not qualify to become beauty contestants or Top 40 placers at least.

Joana Angelica Romero, Krystal Alonday, Sarah Asido, Krischelle KC Halili, Vanessa Saliba and Leonalyn dela Cruz are taking the pageant just as seriously as the rest. For starters, they do not look at themselves as plain fillers. They want to show everyone that they can also keep up with the popular candidates by making their presence felt one day at a time. However…

Joana is currently being overshadowed by fellow Bicolanas Yvethe Santiago and Mae Liezel Ramos. Bummer.

Similarly, Krystal Alonday and Sarah Asido are almost always preceded in attention by Bulacan province mates Vessica Sambo and Jeslyn Santos. I’m sure they have something planned for the next pre-pageant events so they can get the spotlight more often.

On the other hand, KC Halili appears to be the least visible among the dazzling dozen of Aces & Queens. Perhaps, she is more of a silent attacker?

Last year’s debutante, Vanessa Saliba, seems to be happy projecting in the background than standing up front and keeping her stand. I hope her disposition is not to simply go through the motions and charge everything to first-time-big-time pageant experience.

And pretty Leonalyn. I am positive that she is turning on the charm all the time. But is anyone biting long enough to keep the stare and wait for her next move?

It is never easy joining the nationals. It takes the most iron-clad of guts, the most impenetrable grace under pressure and the most discretely-thick-skinned aura.

Will we see a sudden shift of strategy for the six lovelies?

I certainly hope so because this post is meant to challenge them. 🙂

When the top photo of the two images above was posted online prior to the announcement of Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Official Candidates, the ladies pictured in the same (Team JDV’s Leonalyn dela Cruz, Joy Diaz, Kenneth Santiago, Sarah Asido and Vessica Sambo) were rained upon by endless bashings in pageant forums and message boards. Some of the comments were teetering on heartless and insensitive.

But then again, it was only a matter of time before vindication saved the five lovelies from further embarrassment. The bottom photo above showed the same quintet being photographed right after getting individual single-stem roses from BPCI signifying their change of status from SA (Screening Applicants) to OC (Official Candidates).

Moral of the story: think before you click, or at the very least, don’t be rash before you bash or better yet, never rush just to bash. 😉

Here comes another Team JDV beauty in the person of Sarah Asido, a double degree holder from UST who works as a teacher and volleyball coach at the same time – sounds like someone the younger set looks up to.

She is 5’9″ and is about to join the other girls in the screenings of Bb. Pilipinas 2014.

Since I am from Hagonoy, Bulacan, I would just like to share with you the winners of the recently-concluded Reyna ng Bulacan 2013 where the top winners will be the province’s bets for the national beauty competitions of 2014.

– Geisha de Leon from Marilao was adjudged Miss Earth Philippines Bulacan 2013 for Miss Philippines Earth 2014.
– Sarah Asido from Balagtas was picked Reyna ng Turismo Bulacan 2013 for Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014, if not Miss Tourism World Philippines 2014
– Aira Inuoe from San Jose del Monte was given the Bodyshots Bulacan 2013 title for Bodyshots 2014.
