Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray is simply divine in the Dennis Santos Met Gala-inspired creation she wore during the Santacruzan held recently in Sta. Cruz, Laguna. Photos taken by Albert Tamayo Molina with the head piece courtesy of Marvin Manalac of Marvin Creates.

It should be the Santacruzan to beat all Santacruzans. With all the Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Queens with Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1994 Charlene Gonzalez, Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago and the Official Candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2014, this is one beautiful procession that can make you feel proud of the gorgeous Filipinas we have in our midst.
We just do not run out of them. 😉

What’s the month of May without the colorful and beauty-filled Santacruzan or Flores de Mayo
taking place everywhere?
Just recently, the SM Mall of Asia played host to their own version of the event at the mall grounds which culminated onstage at the Activity Center area. Familiar names and faces graced the occasion with the likes of Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago, Miss Supranational Philippines 2012/Miss Supranational 2012 3rd Runner-Up Elaine Kay Moll, Miss Philippines Earth 2012/Miss Earth-Air 2012 Stephany Stefanowitz, Bb. Pilipinas alumni Emma Tiglao, Racquel Kabigting and KC Cajanding wearing drop-dead traditional attires to the delight of shoppers and spectators all around.

Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup in her Santacruzan-inspired National Costume. (Photo credit: Missosology)
After a long wait, the National Costume of Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup was finally unveiled during the taping at Credicard Hall in Sao Paulo. At first, you might find it surprising why she is wearing a crown while dressed in a Maria Clara top paired with a long gold skirt with seaweed-like (or butterflies if you prefer) designs. Well, after initial analysis, my hunch is that the inspiration comes from the annual Santacruzan that the country celebrates during the month of May. She could be a representation of the Reyna Elena instead of what others would interpret as Sto. Nino.
A little more upclose this time (Photocredit: Missosology)
Reactions are mixed, but still predominantly positive. I have yet to see how the whole thing flows while Shamcey walks onstage, but I think it makes her look regal.
Your thoughts? 😉
Since it’s the month of May, Santacruzans are being held all over the Philippines. From the smallest towns to the big cities, girls – ranging from tweens to debutantes to full-grown ladies – are invited to parade in their best gowns and give everyone a heyday watching their fully made-up beauties displayed in succession. Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. is no exception. Last weekend, the group assembled one of the best-looking Santacruzans at the Araneta Center grounds where reigning and former titleholders gamely joined the affair. Despite the heat and humidity of summer, their presence made it all worth it. Good thing it was scheduled later in the afternoon well into early evening…
