Aiko Kitane, Miss Silliman University 2016
On its Sapphire Year – or 70th if you will – the oldest campus beauty pageant in Asia celebrate 70 years of beauty, grace and intellect with the crowning of its Miss Silliman Sapphire winner at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex. She is no other than the talented Aiko Mercado Kitane.
Miss Earth Air 2009 Sandra Seifert headlined the Board of Judges.
“AIKO MERCADO KITANE, Miss College of Business Administration who topped the talent competition and the themed-wear portion wins the Miss Silliman University crown. Community Media’s favorite Jollyprim Katriz Sy of the Graduate Studies Program is crowned Miss Campus Cover Girl and Best Speaker awardee. Michelle Lynn Wilkins of the High School Department is crowned Miss Campus Headline Girl.”
Congratulations to all the winners! 🙂

A throwback to touches in classic M5
In the fashion album of Michael Cinco’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection – as uploaded online by Senatus
– the Dubai-based Filipino Fashion Designer brings us back once more to a world of modern elegance interlocked with mild and scattered touches of avant garde that give the creations a world appeal that is at once ethereal and forward-thinking the next. Colors veer away from the traditional, with less commercial shades of blue, soft purples, and more off than off-whites grabbing your eyes in a divine collection that has never lost the trademark M5 touches in all of his latest outputs.
M5, as he is more popularly known, has dressed up both Valerie Weigmann and Queenie Rehman during their respective Miss World missions. Prior to the two, he also provided Sandra Seifert’s gown during Miss Earth 2009.
Who could be his next muse for 2015? 😉
Overflowing laces and structurally-placed cut-offs give these designs powerful visions of modern femininity.

Miss Earth Russia 2012 Natalia Pereverzeva
Bombshell alert! The Russian Goddess of the Earth is coming to town! Or is she really?
24 year-old Natalia Pereverzeva is no stranger to the limelight. It won’t take a lot of luck googling her name and finding out that she is both an ace photographer’s and a paparazzi’s delight. And I feel that she could be one of the more controversial candidates of Miss Earth 2012.
If you’ve been living under a rock for the past two years, chances are her sizzling photos in the May 2011 issue of Playboy (Russian Edition) might have escaped your peering eyes. Otherwise, her topless and almost nude pictures would’ve already found its way to a folder in your laptop’s hard drive.
But wait! Shouldn’t those photos be sufficient reasons for her disqualification? I know that Carousel Productions is relatively more lenient in matters like posing for men’s magazines (remember Sandra Seifert?), but Natalia pushed the envelope a little further in this case. Upon checking the pageant website, though, she’s still there alright, with one of the lengthiest declarations about her love for Russia. So is that a confirmation that she will still be competing?
Natalia Pereverzeva with blonde tresses
If during the arrival dates of the Miss Earth 2012 candidates and a 5’8″ brunette (she used to wear her hair blonde) who wears a Miss Earth Russia sash and looks like the drop dead gorgeous woman in the image grid above comes gliding in at the NAIA, then Natalia Pereverzeva is definitely here to stay…at least during the month of November.
Watch out for her! 😉
Miss Earth Philippines 2012 Stephany Stefanowitz
So much has been said about the running joke of the Philippines winning Miss Earth 2012 in Manila after China won Miss World in Ordos and Japan getting its first Miss International crown in Okinawa. There’s even a follow-up that American Olivia Culpo will be picked as MU2012 in Las Vegas. I’m not saying that it is impossible for Miss Earth Philippines Stephany Stefanowitz to be selected Miss Earth 2012 since we are hosting the same. But at this juncture, leveled-up credibility is at stake more than anything else. There are only two sides to choose: “let her” claim victory and ride the wave of host nations crowning their own or simply allow fate to decide where she falls into place regardless of the ranking – clapper or semifinalist.
Sad that Stephany had to be near the eye of a pageant storm in her year of representation. The girl is highly competitive, well-spoken, and would not back down from a challenge. And it would be foolish to say that she does not stand a chance of outplaying a great majority of the candidates. Pre-arrival buzz, though, would safely favor at least five entries (no naming of names at this point yet) more than her. If only the original arrangement of holding the finals in Indonesia materialized, then there wouldn’t have been an issue to start with.
So back to the title of this post – to win or not to win Miss Earth 2012? I’d be happy with a Top 16 placement at best. Anything higher than that would invite unnecessary potshots from all over. Top 8 would blow strong winds of disgust on the net and getting an elemental spot is very likely to turn off countries from joining again in 2013. Let there be no remnants of Karla Henry, Cathy Untalan, Sandra Seifert and Athena Imperial. For now.
Miss Singapore Universe 2012 Lynn Tan
Her name is Lynn Tan, aged 24, and 2011 FHM Model of the Year. And just last weekend, she was crowned Miss Universe Singapore 2012 and will now represent the island republic in this year’s edition in the Carribbean. What’s so special about her victory? Well, the mere fact that she has already posed seductively (and with the barest of lingerie) on the pages of FHM is reason enough for controversy if a Filipina would do the same and join Miss Universe Philippines. The latter would not even get past the first screening if ever (remember Juliana Palermo?) or the preliminaries before the finals (shades of Sandra Seifert). This goes to show some good level of maturity on the organizers of Singapore’s Miss Universe rep.
Miss Universe Singapore 2012 Lynn Tan (center) is flanked by 1st Runner-Up Nowreen Khan (left) and 2nd Runner-Up Louissa Thomas.
So how will Singapore’s bet fare in MU2012? Too early to make any assumptions. But if Lynn Tan’s winning of pageant special awards like Miss Body Beautiful and Miss Sensational Smile are any additional indications, she should leave some good marks side-by-side the other entrants this year. Who knows? She might do a Kathie Lee Lee Beng who placed in the Top 12 of MU1983.
Good luck, Lynn! 😉
Ina Dominica Guerrero - Miss Mun. of Daraga, Albay in Miss Philippines Earth 2012
Among the 48 Official Candidates of Miss Philippines Earth 2012, one lady easily stands out because of her beauty, styling and long curly tresses. Her name is Ina Dominica Guerrero, representing the Municipality of Daraga, Albay. The Management junior at Bicol University is another clear proof how beautiful and diverse the Bicolana women can be.
That said, do you guys think Carousel Productions is ready for a more exotic Miss Philippines Earth? We’ve already seen a number of mixed-racial winners (e.g. Karla Henry, Sandra Seifert, Tamera Marie Szijarto, Jeanne Harn and Laura Marie Dunlap) and fair-skinned ones (e.g. April Ross Perez, Carlene Aguilar and Psyche Resus), but never a darker beauty in the mold of Ina Dominica Guerrero above.
I, for one, would be happy having someone like her represent us in Miss Earth. But that would mean ignoring the fact the she is facing heavy competition from the more hyped and more environmentally articulate contenders in the batch. Let’s see if she can hold up her own when judgment time gets tough.
Another beauty-in-waiting, this Dianne Dreyfus. The 20 year-old student and commercial model is one more possible participant for Bb. Pilipinas 2012.
Dianne is currently training with one of the country’s top beauty camps in preparation for screening in the national pageant.
Although her name doesn’t ring a bell to most, the young discovery has been making her presence felt in the media the past year. She was chosen as one of the image models for Solara (as pictured on the left) – a swimwear line co-owned by former beauty queens Maggie Wilson and Sandra Seifert. Let’s wait and see if she will indeed enlist for Bb. Pilipinas 2012. For me, she is definitely ‘in’ as official candidate, and possibly more once I get to study her possibilities in the next few weeks. 😉
