The Philippines wins another Miss Tourism International title via Mutya ng Pilipinas 2017 Jannie Alipo-on who was crowned as this year’s big winner at the Grand Ballroom of Sunway Resort & Spa in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. She is the 4th to achieve the victory for the country after Maria Esperanza Manzano in 2000, the late Rizzini Alexis Gomez in 2012 and Angeli Dione Gomez in 2013.
Her runners-up are (in this order): Poland, Indonesia, Australia and Brazil.
Congratulations, Jannie! This is such a well-deserved win for you!
Congratulations, Jannie Alipo-on for winning Miss Tourism International 2017/2018!

I had the chance to speak with Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2015 Rogelie Catacutan during the send-off for her youngest sister Bb. Pilipinas International 2015 Janicel Lubina yesterday at Gateway Mall. Beneath the winsome smile and beautiful face, I could tell that she continues to be sad about the passing away of her dear friend and fellow Cebuana Miss Tourism International 2012 Rizzini Alexis Gomez. And I was right.
Rogelie was just in Cebu the other day, and she literally cried buckets of tears upon seeing the remains of Rizzini. She related that Designer Cary Santiago filled her wake with white roses everywhere, and how all his Cebu-based colleagues came in full force for the first night of vigil. She also intimated that Jonas Borces – their mentor – was extremely saddened by the demise but also accepting after seeing how tough Rizzini’s battle with lung cancer was for two long years.
I told Rogelie that she will now have a Guardian Angel once she competes for the Miss Supranational 2015 crown in Poland starting late next month. She immediately said that she will offer her pageant mission for Rizzini. And to that, I could only get teary-eyed. I gave her a quick hug after.

Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2012 and Miss Tourism International 2012 Rizzini Alexis Gomez just lost her battle with the Big C. She passed away this morning. She will forever be remembered as the strong and beautiful Filipina who showed to the world her extraordinary courage and spirit.
My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.
Rest in peace, Rizzini. 😦
Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2012 and Miss Tourism International 2012 Rizzini Alexis Gomez needs your prayers. According to a reliable source, she is terminally ill with lung cancer.
I’m just as baffled as everyone else how the beautiful Cebuana – a health professional no less – contracted the disease. But we all know that the dreaded Big C can afflict any individual. It is possible that she has a weak part in her system that might have led to the same.
This is the main reason why she was unable to crown Angeli Dione Gomez as her back-to-back country successor during Miss Tourism International 2013. Being the real trouper, she still departed for Kuala Lumpur. But then again, her health condition got in the way of fulfilling her responsibilities as the outgoing titleholder.
It is never too late to ask for a miracle. But for now, let us pray for the ease of constant pain. More than the fact that she has given honor to the country in the international pageant stage, Rizzini is like a sister to all of us.
Those cat-like eyes are Emma’s most unique assets
Emma (2nd from left) as 1st Runner-Up of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2012.
Back in Mutya ng Pilipinas 2012, this young lady (she was 17 at the time) got me hook, line and sinker with those cat-like eyes that never fail to capture my attention. I wanted her so much to win one of the two titles (along with Rizzini Alexis Gomez who actually got the one where she is most suited to) because I had a feeling she will do well in Miss Intercontinental. But as fate would have it, she was called 1st Runner-Up and that was it for Emma Mary Tiglao’s stint with the pageant.
Now 19 and raring to prove her worth in the big league, she equipped herself with the right training and development to push her bid for a spot in Bb. Pilipinas 2014. She is all set to submit her application anytime soon.
Will we see her as the next crossover candidate? I think so. She deserves that spot at the very least. 😉
The Philippines’ three titleholders of Miss Tourism International
Unknown to some, Maria Esperanza Manzano kicked off our MTI wins back in 2000.
Recency-wise, we can all remember the back-to-back win of the Philippines in Miss Tourism International
courtesy of Rizzini Alexis Gomez and Angeli Dione Gomez. But in terms of primacy, there was another Filipina who captured our first. Maria Esperanza Manzano was elected Miss Tourism International back in 2000. Little may be known about her whereabouts nowadays, but the former Miss Quezon City (before becoming a Mutya ng Pilipinas winner
) must be living a happily married life at the moment.
But even before the three aforementioned victories, the country has already notched two other crowns from the same organizers back when Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International was still being given away as an independent title and not a 1st runner-up equivalent of late. Sherylle Santarin (sister of the late Bb. Pilipinas International 1993 Sheila Mae Santarin) and Racquel Uy were the winners in 1996 and 1999, respectively.
From the same organizers of MTI, we also have two (2) Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International winners when the title was still independently selected
So as you can see, the Malaysian officials of D’Touch International Sdn Bhd
are really quite fond of our candidates in their competitions. And I doubt if that will change in the years to come. They know that we send them topnotch delegates. And being geographical neighbors also helps in facilitating a Filipina winner’s fulfillment of her responsibilities to the organization.
P.S. MTI2013/14 Angeli Dione Gomez will be back home this coming Tuesday. Hope she will be given a rousing welcome as well. 😉

Miss Tourism International 2013 Angeli Dione Gomez of the Philippines
Up to the fading minutes of 2013, the Philippines does it again!
Angeli Dione Gomez was crowned Miss Tourism International 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – a rare back-to-back win for the Philippines with Rizzini Alexis Gomez being the outgoing titleholder. The reps of Thailand, Australia, Dominican Republic and Malaysia made it to her court. She defeated 59 other contenders for the honor.
And to the Philippines, the undisputed Country of the Year for 2013! 😉
