With today’s start of the Photo Exhibit of the Bb. Pilipinas 2020 candidates in their National Costumes and the Finals Night set for April 17, allow me to share my favorites among them. I picked this eight (8) for various reasons as briefly described below:
Paolo Ballesteros for #Binibini29 Honey Cartasano: Very inventive, larger than life and with the best cultural inspiration used for a NatCos;
Macoy Elipane for #Binibini26 Czarina Guiao and the duo of Jun-g Bayona Candelario and Brent Naranja for #Binibini21 Thea Cenarosa: Pageant-theatrical with the wow factor that would make them stand out onstage and even in a parade;
Nick Guarino with Festivali Designs and Concepts for #Binibini12 Maureen Montagne: Meticulously crafted like a complex jigsaw puzzle assembled face down with the finished product showing a highly professional artisan feel;
Jomar Peralta for #Binibini36 Vickie Marie Rushton: Dreamy and magical like a character straight out of a fairy tale coming to life;
Ken Adrienne Batino and Jevin Salaysay for #Binibini23 Gabrielle Basiano: Whimsical without going overload; the focus is balanced equally between the wearer and the elements of the kalesa;
Edwin Uy for #Binibini14 Hazel Ortiz: simple lines that are both elegant and refined like a throwback to pageant Filipinianas of yesteryears given a modern twist;
Basha Subijano for #Binibini34 Mercedes Pair: Like a celebratory cake that is baked and decorated right, this flowery creation is executed with the right amount of ambition and creativity.
Behold your #Binibini34 Mercedes Pair in her Bb. Pilipinas National Costume created by Basha “Poi” Subijano:
The Queen of Philippine Folk Dance – “Bulaklakan”
On Mercedes is a costume inspired by the famous Filipino folk dance “Bulaklakan”.
“Bulaklakan” or the dance of flowers is usually held during the month of May in the Philippines as this is the month known when flowers bloom at its best.
We hold a garland of leaves and flowers attached to a wire, bamboo or rattan so that the garland will arch when held overhead and we usually gently sway these arcs of garlands to gracefully give honor to Virgin Mary.
The designer of this national costume, Ms Poi Subijano, came up with the idea using vibrant colors to represent the joyful culture of the Philippines.
The bodice of this costume is a Filipiniana Butterfly Sleeves adorned with precious pearls from south sea. Spanish lace were used for the top fabric and the flamboyant skirt is filled with flowers to signify festivity and glamour.

Miss Grand Philippines 2013 Ali Forbes
After finishing her contract with BPCI as the 2nd Runner-Up in Bb. Pilipinas 2012, Analie ‘Ali’ Forbes has resumed her love for singing. After all, this was her main bread-and-butter back in the day. Bars, lounges, 5-star hotels – she has done the rounds.
So when this Team JDV ward was called upon by her mentor (John dela Vega) to attend a casting call for the Philippine entry to the 1st edition of Miss Grand International, little did she know that what never happened in Bb. Pilipinas will come true with the Bangkok-based beauty competition – to wear the country’s sash abroad. She is now Miss Grand Philippines 2013.
The competition won’t be until past mid-November, but Ali is getting her wardrobe ready. With the help of her beauty camp and designer Poi Subijano, she will be dressed in sexy but elegant evening gowns and cocktail dresses from the pre-pageant activities all the way to the finals.
And she is also practicing her sensual singing voice for the talent competition. I bet she will render one of her more lively jazz standards, if not a really danceable pop tune.
Good luck, Ali! 🙂
Ayelee Marie Dasalla, Miss Humanity International Philippines 2012
Ayelee Marie Dasalla is all set to depart for Georgetown, Barbados to represent the country in Miss Humanity International 2012 where she will arrive this coming weekend. Prior to the formal send-off yesterday, John dela Vega’s team (including designer Poi Subijano) has made sure that she is 100% ready for the pageant in the Caribbean. From the time of her participation in Bb. Pilipinas last summer, she has lost more weight to come out sexier and more competitive. Our bet last year, Czarina Gatbonton, placed third. Will she place higher or possibly, bring home the crown itself? 🙂
The finals for Miss Humanity International 2012 is scheduled for October 20 at the Barbados Beach Club. In the meantime, show Ayelee some love and support by casting an online vote for her. Click HERE.
Good luck, girl! 😀
