In this post are photos of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach from her latest cover pictorial for PeopleAsia Magazine as photographed by Dookie Ducay (with makeup by Gery Penaso and hair by Raymund Santiago).
Queen P has safely arrived in Las Vegas by now in preparation for her judging of the Miss Universe 2017 finals this coming November 26 at The Axis of Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.
Some Filipinos are confident that since we have allies in both the Preliminaries (Cecilio Asuncion) and finals (Pia), the chances of Rachel Peters are better than ever. But do you honestly think that the latter can be easily swayed to judge our bet more favorably given that the Miss Universe Organization will definitely “suggest” their choices who are potentially beneficial for the pageant brand?
Be that as it may, I remain confident that Rachel will be a fierce contender. She won’t let this golden opportunity pass by, especially that there are serious talks of Miss Universe taking place in Manila once more. And that would be late next year. 😉

Here are two shots from the rehearsals of the Miss Universe 2017 Preliminary Competition at the Mezzanine of Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
I really hope the organizers could at least improve on the lighting of the stage to make up for the underwhelming venue. The ladies deserve to shine individually, and not to have shadows blocking their faces and bodies while presenting themselves.

And below is a quick vid of Miss Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam giving her greetings to Filipino pageant fans. She will be one of the judges during the Finals of Miss Universe on November 26.

The sign says it all at the entrance of the venue for the Miss Universe 2017 Preliminaries
Pageant fans in Las Vegas are heating up with excitement for the Miss Universe 2017 Preliminaries that the MUO personnel at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino have put up a sign at the entrance of the Mezzanine area to ward off the eager beavers who planned to sleep it out inside the premises just to be first in line. How I wish the organizers got a bigger place to hold the event. How can the family members of all the candidates fit in when the fans have already maxed out the allowed number of watchers at the venue? 😕
Kristina Janolo is Miss Florida in Miss America 2012.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a Filipino-American with 100% Pinoy blood winning the Miss Florida title and representing the state in Miss America 2012. She actually took part in the 2009 edition where she finished 1st Runner-Up, and rejoined last year to finally win the crown. She is now in Las Vegas for the finals which will happen on January 14 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Her objective is to become the second Asian-American and Filipino-American to clinch the scholarship-based competition (the first one was Hawaii’s Angela Perez Barraquio way back in 2001). At the moment, you can help in her quest by participating in the online popularity voting
where the winner will automatically advance to the semifinals.
By the way, Kristina’s platform for the pageant is as follows:
Kristina Janolo's official portrait as Miss Florida 2011

As a spokesperson for Florida’s Everglades, Kristina will advocate the protection and restoration of one of the world’s unique natural ecosystems that provides economic, recreational and life-sustaining benefits to the millions of people who depend on its future health.

These are just twelve of the 51 official candidates to Miss USA 2010. A dozen faces that have caught my fancy so far. I’m sure my list of favorites will still change as coronation night nears its fever-pitch finale two weeks from now.
Anyways, the 59th-annual competition will be broadcast live from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 16 (7-9 p.m. ET). The telecast will feature performances by multi-platinum country music superstar Trace Adkins and pop rock band Boys Like Girls (BLG), as well as color commentary by Joan and Melissa Rivers.
By the way, viewers can see images of all the contestants and vote for the 2010 Miss Photogenic USA® at NBC’s website. The award is given to the contestant who best exemplifies beauty through the lens of a camera. The winner of the online vote will be revealed during the live telecast. Vote for your favorites now! 😉
