While 2017 was such a fulfilling year for pageant coverages at normannorman.com, Joy, Joseph and I are looking forward to a really busy 2018 starting this January with the Bb. Pilipinas 2018 submission of application deadline and screenings, the mission of Katarina Rodriguez in Hurghada, Egypt for Miss Intercontinental 2018, the mock pageants of both Aces & Queens and Kagandahang Flores and the announcement of Official Binibinis who will vie for the six titles at stake come March 18 at the Araneta Coliseum. This month, I will also personally cover the Kuyamis Festival in Cagayan de Oro City and the Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo with the crowning of their respective Queens.
The 50th Year of Mutya ng Pilipinas will also be worth looking forward to, as the organizers will have fifty (50) Official Candidates for the very first time.
But that’s getting far ahead of the year ahead. Here is a 30-second slideshow of what is in store for readers from January-June, 2018.
And in closing, allow me to share with you the specific segment of my TV interview guesting on CNN Philippines’ Rewind: 2017 Year-Ender Report with hosts Pinky Webb and Ruth Cabal plus the added bonus of having my favorite James Deakin in the panel.
This appearance completes a memorable 2017 that saw me on ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda (twice) and TV Patrol, GMA Network’s 24 Oras and on CNN Philippines’s The Source and On the Record. 😊
Happy New Year to all!
I am truly honored to have been invited by CNN Philippines to be part of their 2017 Year-Ender Special where the news channel’s hosts – Pinky Webb, James Deakin and Ruth Cabal – navigated the year that was, with topics tanging from the Marawi City Crisis, EJK, ASEAN Summit and Uber/Grab issues all the way to Philippine Pageantry where your blogger served as guest panelist.
Please indulge me in this post because I just want to share the thrill of being part of this media special. After being awarded one of the Philippine Empowered Men and Women of 2017, two consecutive guestings on ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda, a spot on CNN Philippines’ The Source with Pia Hontiveros, the taping earlier in the day brings the year to a glorious close personally.
Please watch #Rewind2017 – the CNN Philippines Year-Ender Special on December 30.
Bb. Pilipinas International 2017 Mariel de Leon has no better and more tailor-made advocacy than to push for the Filipinos’ appreciation of classical music. Of course, the interest to go for the same will also be linked with a stronger return of the youth to appreciation of the arts. And during the TV interview with Pinky Webb on CNN Philippines’ The Source, she even displayed her talent to the delight of the latter.
Watch the said one-on-one now.

What can you say about Mariel’s interview above? Does she pass your standards, dear readers?
It would be an understatement to say that I am enjoying the opportunities that the 65th Miss Universe brings. I am loving them to be honest. Aside from doing live interview videos of the Preliminary Competition, Pre-Finals and Post-Coronation for Rappler Entertainment, I am in the middle of negotiations with TV5 to do another segment coverage of the Preliminaries which the network will exclusively air. And this. The guesting for CNN Philippines for its “On The Record” program with host Pinky Webb.
Earlier in the afternoon at the Lobby Lounge of Okada Manila, your blogger joined columnists George Sison of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Robert Requintina of the Manila Bulletin and fellow blogger Jesson Capuchino of Sash Factor for a lively discussion about the 65th Miss Universe and just about anything related to the pageant.
The episode was originally set to have just a 30-minute airing, but with how the actual talks turned out, we got extended for an hour because the show’s producer will have a difficult time editing out all the juicy tidbits that the four of us shared with the host.
The subject matters went from how we individually got hooked on pageantry to how impact-ful the hosting of Miss Universe to how the next winner will be chosen all the way to our early picks to stand out in the competition.
Do catch the airing of the episode this coming Saturday, January 14 at 9:30PM on CNN Philippines. Modesty aside, I know that you – my dear readers – will share in the joy that I feel for getting this chance to show how passionate I am about Miss Universe and pageantry.
PS I got an extra bonus for meeting the Asia-Pacific Entertainment Head of Okada Manila Oscar Cabrera (a Bolivian expat with the friendliest vibe). He personally invited me to attend the After Party of the 65th Miss Universe to be held at the highly-anticipated Cove Manila on the night of January 30.
More reports to come out soon! 😀
When Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa guested on CNN Philippines for “The Source” (In Focus) of host Pinky Webb, she detailed the trail that she prepared herself for in Tokyo, Japan. Her preparations were mind-boggling for an utterly lazy or simple-minded individual. And only someone with focus and great determination could deliver on what she promised to the entire nation.

Now that we’re done with that, I just want to remind everyone that today is the scheduled homecoming parade (see image below) of Miss International 2016 around Araneta Center. It will start at around 4:00PM from the Novotel Manila Araneta Center area and end at the Araneta Coliseum right beside it. A program will be held around the Food Park area after.
Don’t miss this one. Make sure that you find time to shower her with all your love and gratitude for giving us one of the best Christmas gifts ever. 🙂
To say that it ain’t easy being Imelda Schweighart nowadays is a big understatement. She is now the former Miss Philippines Earth 2016 (replaced by Loren Mar Artajos) who is trying to move on with life and restoring “normalcy” to the once-quiet existence she enjoyed before jumping back into the pageant scene and even stretching her presence in the international level.
In the interview with Pinky Webb on CNN Philippines’ “The Source”, you may see her as being nice and goody-two-shoes, but the honesty (however sanitized) remains evident in the way she answers and expresses her thoughts, especially about the snowballing doubts about being Miss Philippines Earth and the country’s delegate to Miss Earth.
Watch now and tell me your thoughts after, dear readers.
