With Season 6 of Asia’s Next Top Model starting August 22 (on Fox Life), the usual spoilers as to who the Philippine representatives are have already spread like wildfire on social media. Meet the two ladies being buzzed about as following the trail of Season 5 winner Maureen Wroblewitz and hopefully doing us proud on the show as well.
Jachin Manere (a member of the Professional Models Association of the Philippines) and Adela-Mae Marshall (she was 1st Runner-Up of Philippines’ Next Top Model)
Know more about them soon!
I was tipped that these two ladies did very well in the season filming. But that’s getting far ahead of the story.

Guess who’s going to be part of Philippines Next Top Model | High Street
as Model Mentor and part of the PNTM Fashion Council? It’s Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa herself. Our lovely queen will be in the newest show on TV5 to serve as a role model/inspiration/adviser to all the officially aspiring young ladies who want to become famous on the runway, editorials and/or photoshoots and showbiz perhaps.

Grendel Alvarado is now in Korea bannering the Philippine sash in Miss Asia Pacific World 2012. The 26 year-old fashion model and winner of the first and only edition of Philippines’ Next Top Model years back should be having the time of her life. She wanted so much to take part in Bb. Pilipinas, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
At 5’8″, Grendel is one of the taller ladies in the competition, and perhaps one of the more elegant ones. Her extensive background in catwalk/modeling and posing will definitely come in handy as this will make her stand out with a straight posture and sophisticated vibe.
Let’s see what fate awaits Grendel in the beauty competition. If she ends up winning (or placing in) this one, it will more or less vindicate her non-inclusion in BBP. 😉
Grendel Alvarado, Miss Philippines for Miss Asia Pacific World 2012
Grendel Alvarado missed the cut as Official Candidate of Bb. Pilipinas 2011 when she was already 25. She must have thought that it was her final opportunity to join a beauty pageant and represent the Philippines abroad.
The winner of the one and only Philippines’ Next Top Model reality search (in 2007), Grendel thought too soon. Now at the ripe age of 27, she has been appointed as the Philippine entry to the Miss Asia-Pacific World 2012 to be hosted not by one, not by two, but three countries altogether. Japan, South Korea and China will take turns in handling this year’s proceedings. Probably because of the controversies that surrounded last year’s edition in Seoul, the tri-country hosting should provide a more transparent check-and-balance of all activities in order to redeem the smeared reputation of Miss Aisa-Pacific World.
Let’s hope this year will more than make up for what happened in the past. Of course, it goes without saying that we should at least support our candidate in the same. Grendel will be leaving for South Korea on May 24.
Good luck, Grendel! 🙂
Bb. Pilipinas 2011 Official Candidate Grendel Alvarado: Will she be disqualified?
Will this photo of Grendel Alvarado during the Philippines Next Top Model contest cause her disqualification?
I emphasize on the word “rumored” because the BPCI has not issued any formal statement on the matter yet. But talks are ripe that both Grendel Alvarado and Jen Olivar – Official Candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2011 – might be up for the chopping block as a result of topless photos they made when they were still finalists in the Philippines’ Next Top Model competition way back in 2007.
If the two ladies indeed end up getting disqualified due to the said pictures, then I say it is grossly unfair to both since they agreed to the (almost) nude photoshoot as requirements for one of the challenges in the modelling contest and not to pose for a men’s magazine. And to think that Grendel is now slowly inching her way to the list of favorites. Sad if confirmed as true.
Let’s see if things will turn sour for Grendel and Jen or the BPCI will extend some extra levels of understanding for the photos. Should they get axed, then the original 40 ladies will have been trimmed to 38 with still more than a month before the finals. And gut feel tells me that a few more girls might see their dreams vanish in thin air.

2007 Philippines’ Next Top Model -Winner
I’m not sure why it took Grendel Alvarado this long before joining the Bb. Pilipinas. At the age of 26, this Ilongga is dangerously middling on the fringes of age disqualification and as it is, can only be considered for the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe title since the Miss International has 24 years as the ceiling limit for its participants. Which is a pity because she has equal fighting chance for both crowns.
Since catwalk skills have a become a must in the Miss Universe Pageant, then she is certain to effortlessly nail this aspect. Credit goes to her various modelling stints after winning the first (and only one so far) Philippines’ Next Top Model contest in 2007. But then again, how far will this bring her when pitted side-by-side with the 39 other beauty queen wannabes this year?
It would be an injustice to tag Grendel as just a filler (or ‘Thank-You-Girl’) because she possesses the unconventional beauty of face and figure that will bring her places internationally. On top of that, she is deceivingly taller than her height of 5’6 1/2″ which is a good thing (think Miriam Quiambao who is barely 5’7″ but commands a 5’9″ frame when gliding centerstage). Lastly, you just got to see her in person to erase doubts about how she registers in pictures. She has far more impact than what images sparingly bestow. 😉
