I am reposting the article published by Rappler.com about the Miss Universe franchise in the Philippines.
Some messages from contacts in my inbox are asking if this is a case of “She said, He said” after Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta was quoted as saying (during the Karen Gallman sendoff) that the franchise is still with BPCI. Now, Governor Chavit Singson is claiming that the franchise is with him (check the Screenshot below of his interview with Philippine Star).
Well, until the official announcement from MUO gets published, I will not give my personal opinion. Yet.
Here now is the Rappler article:
Chavit Singson: Miss Universe Philippines franchise ‘already with me’
The former Ilocos Sur governor says a formal announcement will be made by the Miss Universe Organization soon

Updated 12:30 PM, January 13, 2019MANILA, Philippines – Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson said that he has acquired the Miss Universe Philippines franchise.
In an interview with the Philippine Star published Sunday, January 13, Singson told columnist Wilson Flores that the Philippine Miss Universe franchise is “already with [him].”
“True, the franchise is already with me, but it has not yet been announced. I think it shall be formally announced this January or February, when Catriona comes back again to the Philippines,” Singson said.
“Binibining Pilipinas Universe will be replaced with ‘Miss Universe Philippines.’ Noon pa binibigay sa akin ‘yan (It was being offered to me since before), because I’ve been helping them since 2016.”
Candidates for the Miss Universe pageant are selected by local franchise owners. These local franchises are owned by either an individual or an organization. The Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc (BPCI), which runs the Binibining Pilipinas pageant, has had the Miss Universe franchise since 1964.
Let the discussion begin now.
When the buzz about the possibility of Miss Universe being hosted here in the country for a third time made the rounds of pageant circles, it made sense considering that Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is Miss Universe 2015 and how wonderful it would be to see the reigning winner eventually crown her successor in front of her countrymen. While taking charge of this responsibility is not for the ill-prepared – and certainly not for the most limited of budget – it would surely add more worldwide popularity for the prestigious beauty pageant to be held in a place where the following is one of the strongest.
Of course, it would require a lot of preparations and mind-boggling logistics if and when it gets to be confirmed. The cost of hosting can really run deep in the pocket. So it would do well if a network like ABS-CBN would partner with the government important individuals to make it happen. Would 2016 be the right time to do it considering that national elections will take place this coming May and the administration will have already spent hundreds of millions of pesos in election campaign funds and the like? Or would it be more proper to have it handled exclusively by the private sector?
Well, everything is still up in the air. For now, let’s look back and watch the 1973 and 1994 Miss Universe Finals held at the Folk Arts Theater and Philippine International Convention Center, respectively.

For the Philippine Star Women of Allure 2015, Miss Universe Philippines 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach unleashed yet another appearance of her beautifully transforming self for Miss Universe 2015.
After all the sweaty workout posts I have made about her, it’s time to see her glamorous side, together with the more relaxed and wacky photos (see below) of her as a Dairy Queen staff and during a boodle lunch she shared with the other Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Queens during a meaningful Gawad Kalinga project.
Isn’t she just a joy to look at?
Enjoy! 🙂
If you missed reading the Philippine Star yesterday, there were two articles in the Allure section about our top two Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Queens – Miss Universe Philippines 2014 Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa and Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti.
Here are quotable quotes from the article which you can read in full after clicking on the corresponding links below.
“My dad taught me that it is still possible to love despite the distance. I may never have bonding moments with him but we know we love each other.”

“The most important thing is knowing that you are a force to reckon with. Don’t compare yourself with anyone. Just hang on to your beliefs. I know who I am; I know my own strengths and weaknesses. I believe I’m worth it, and I deserve a crown…”

Both outputs actually give us reasons to be more excited about the pageant missions of both ladies, right? 😉

The other day, I was reading the Philippine Star and the Star Bytes column of Showbiz TV Host Butch Francisco caught my eye. His subject matter was about Venus Raj, Miss Universe 2010 and reputable psychic Maricel Gaskell.

Maricel Gaskell
I personally know Ms. Gaskell and can attest to her accurate ‘vibrations’ of personalities (both famous and non-famous) based on pictures, dates of birth and tarot cards. I have taken the liberty of posting excerpts from Butch Francisco’s column. Read on…
…Last Sunday, I got this text from her (Maricel Gaskell): “I saw pictures of Venus Raj. I don’t know, but I am positive, she has a huge chance of winning.”….
So how did she get those positive vibes concerning Venus?
According to Maricel, last Sunday morning, she was at the Dome in Podium waiting for a friend. To while the time away, she got newspapers from the magazine rack and chose to read the Philippine Star. When she saw the photos of Venus in Conversations With Ricky Lo, she had goose bumps and had this strong feeling that Venus would bring home the crown.
During our talk on the phone, Maricel continued reading Venus’ fortune based on the beauty queen’s birth date (July 7, 1988). Ms. Gaskell says that according to the cards, Venus is “destined to win.”
But – and here is the big BUT – there could be an obstacle to her winning the title. And what could this be?
Maricel claims that there could be a possibility that the organizers would get turned off with her. Pressed to explain how this could happen to Venus, the psychic says that during the pageant Ms. Raj may act too overconfident – bordering on arrogance.
No. Ms. Gaskell insists that this is not just some safety net she is using just in case her forecast doesn’t come true. “Venus is an earth dragon (her birth sign) and that trait can work against her,” warns Maricel.
This is how Maricel sums up Venus’ fortune in the Miss Universe contest: “The dragon is the friend of the tiger. Venus is a dragon and this is the year of the Tiger. Dragons are lucky this year and they will be rewarded for a courageous act. But they should guard against arrogance and their penchant for enjoying the limelight too much – or they will have cause to regret their boastfulness.”
Maricel also advises Venus to avoid wearing blue during the competition and stick to metal colors, white, black, grey or even orange or red.
I have no way of getting in touch with Venus, but if those tips could help, why not have these pieces of advice forwarded to her? To begin with, telling somebody to stay humble at all times is always sound advice……
The prediction of Maricel Gaskell may come true or not. She is not infallible after all since she isn’t God – and she had never professed to be, in due fairness to her. Venus is also said to be topping on-line polls – and so expect a whole bunch of beauty contest watchers who will also say they predicted Venus winning Miss Universe if she makes it…
Okay, much as I would like to take Maricel Gaskell’s vibrations with a grain of salt, I know the psychic so I’m allocating a few extra points of confidence in her. In terms of the ‘arrogance’ thing, this is one trait I will never associate with Venus because she remains grounded as a person, especially now that she is in Las Vegas and getting all the attention and warm wishes of kababayans out there.
Let’s just keep our fingers crossed. I know that this Butch Francisco article has already been relayed to her and our girl is not one to leave any stones unturned. 😉
