It wasn’t easy tracking down this Miss Universe Philippines 2020 candidate for a number of reasons – one of which is the difficulty to do online communication with her. She hails from a part of Zamboanga Del Sur where internet connection remains challenging to say the least. But being the persistent blogger that I am, my patience got its due reward when we were able to reach a glorious conclusion.
I will now give the floor to this phenomenal woman who happens to be a Licensed Criminologist aspiring to become a Policewoman:
“My name is Perlyn Yamuta Cayona. I am 22 years old. I was born and raised in the simple town of Dumingag, Zamboanga Del Sur. We are five siblings all in all and I am the youngest. I am proud to say that out of the five, only one sister was unable to finish school. The rest of us are all Licensed Criminologists, inspite of all the hardship that our parents experienced and struggled with. There are still people who offered their help during times that we needed financial support.
I graduated and passed the Board Exams last 2016 and it is the greatest joy I’ve ever had. Hopefully, I can get the chance to be a Policewoman – a lifelong dream. I really want to serve and protect the people.
I love basketball as a sport. I am quite good as a player, in fact. I was active during my high school years as a varsity member. My big advantage perhaps is my height because I’m taller than average.
I have proudly lived and continue to live a clean life.
My advocacy is the protection of women and children. Their rights of should be respected at all times regardless of race, color and religious affiliations. Women should be treated as equal human beings with compassion, love, care and respect. I want to continue invoking the rights of every women and children against all forms of abuses, discrimination and oppression. To the best that I can, I want to educate and empower women to be confident and have unfading strength to pursue their dreams and ambitions and as equal contributors and part of the society”
