It was a Swimsuit Presentation that involved the taming of floor-length “wings” and the incessantly playful wind.
In a pasarela route that somehow mimicked the one during the Swimsuit Preliminaries of Miss Grand International 2020 at lebua atop the State Tower in Bangkok, the 34 Binibinis traversed the entire poolside of Novotel Manila Araneta City coming from the higher stagger of a split level portion, going down the steps and establishing midway in a small platform before finally walking freely around the landing of the pool area until the final pose.
It sure wasn’t easy for the uninitiated, moreso for someone who had to worry about how to avoid tripping on the flowing wings that tend to wrap around their legs or heels. Add to that the wind that loves to blow their hairs out of styling and you’ve got a scored preliminary event that is sure to separate the masters from the relative newbies.
Presented according to their numbers, below are the ones who stood out in my eyes. Mind you, I did not focus on curves. Instead, I checked on the ones who navigated their steps like pros and projected with ease and grace:
Patricia Denise Babista
Karen Laurrie Mendoza
Honey Grace Cartasano
Alexandra Faith Garcia
For sure, there will be differing opinions on some. But that is the beauty of this exercise. Every Binibini gave their best. So it all boils down to a matter of preference, I reckon.
Behold your #Binibini8 Patricia Denise D. Babista of Quezon Province in her Bb. Pilipinas National Costume created by Dee Jay Abustan:
(Notes from the designer)
This Pahiyas and Niyugyugan Festival Fusion is a Symbol of the Quezonians’ creativity; with Inspiration rooting from its very traditions. From the Jota Gumaquena cut Bodice embellished with hand crafted coconut shells to the skirt bursting with colorful Kiping in a form of the Arangya, this national costume is truly a fanciful treat for the eyes – 100% Quezonian, 100% Filipino.

The photos above give you an idea of the theme – perhaps paying homage to the Cherry Blossoms of Japan?
In the meantime, below is a photo grid of nine of the Binibinis with their looks for the day courtesy of the respective HMUAs.
This coming Saturday, June 3, the life story of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach will finally unfold on the ABS-CBN weekly drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya?” courtesy of the beautiful Liza Soberano who will play the lead. Focus will be given on her family life (and the drama surrounding her younger years) before achieving pageant glory. Her mother, Cheryl, will be played by actress Zsa Zsa Padilla.
Watch out for cameos of ladies from Aces & Queens – like Apriel Smith, Jessica Ramirez and Patricia Babista – during her training scenes at the beauty camp.
