Team Venezuela: who will make it on top?

When it comes to training and preparation, these three Miss Venezuela winners are some of the most well-transformed for international competitions. They were given the luxury of time in their hands, and have come a long way since their crowning last 4th quarter of 2012.

Just consider Elian Herrera alone. This glamazonic stunner, who stands at an enviable 6″1′, is all set to take the Miss International stage by storm. Gone are the days when she would still be conscious about her vertical advantage. With her luscious skin tone and dusky appeal, she can literally look down at all her fellow candidates (possibly in Japan still) and show that she has what it takes to wrest her country’s Mikomoto-encrusted crown for the nth time.

And how about Miss Earth-bound Alyz Heinrich? She was one of my top picks during the national finals last year, and I’m just too happy she nailed one of the titles. Her height (barely 5’7″) may pale in comparison to the two others, but her gorgeous face is more than enough to make heads turn and stay transfixed in her vibrant aura. If the contest stays put in Manila, I bet she will be a constant favorite for the top spot, even possibly bettering her compatriot Osmariel Villalobos’s Miss Water placement.

And who doesn’t know Maria Gabriela Isler? Osmel Sousa must have stayed on her case longer than the rest. After all, her upcoming stint in Moscow is one event every Venezuelan will watch with unbridled excitement. Never mind that the host city is expected to be more keen on one of their continental own to take it all the way, she will still raise the bar, step up to the plate and hurdle all obstacles along the way to insure her spot in the November 9 big event.

So who is your bet to take a grand slam (I still include ME regardless of what happened) win among the three? 😉

Czech Republic wins Miss Earth 2012!

The Elemental 4 of 2012 (L-R): Fire - Camila Brant of Brazil, Earth - Tereza Fajksova of the Czech Republic, Air - Stephany Stefanowitz of the Philippines and Water - Osmariel Villalobos of Venezuela.

Miss Earth 2012 has been crowned, and she is Tereza Fajksova of the Czech Republic.

At the end of the hair-disheveling finals in Versailles Palace, the 23 year-old student from Ivancice defeated 79 other contenders for the title, her country’s first in the environment-centered pageant. Comprising her elemental court are Miss Air Stephany Stefanowitz of the Philippines, Miss Water Osmariel Villalobos of Venezuela and Miss Fire Camila Brant of Brazil

The ladies who made it to Top 8 are Siria Bojorquez of the USA, Tamerin Jardine of South Africa, Nagma Shrestha of Nepal and Natalia Pereverzeva of Russia.

It must have been Tereza’s goddess charm that won the judges over. She was unable to answer the final Q&A (she stated that she did not understand the question), and instead, simply spoke about her love and respect for Mother Earth. She apologised for not being able to give the desired reply. Nonetheless, she must’ve already been under the strong radar of the panel right from the announcement of the Top 16.

She tripped on her evening gown while doing her victory walk, but quickly regained her composure with the help of Stephany. It’s interesting to note that the elemental countries for 2012 are the same as last year’s, except for the winner – just a quick shuffle of placements for the Philippines, Venezuela and Brazil.

Miss Earth 2012 Challenges Final Leaderboard Tally

All the medals and green ribbon points have been already handed out. The Golds, Silvers and Bronzes are already around the necks of their respective winners. And the corresponding points have been tallied.

What does this mean?

The Official Preliminary Judging is happening as I blog. Whatever scores the Miss Earth 2012 candidates earn here will comprise a good chunk of weight in determining the Top 16 to be announced on Finals Night. The remaining percentage will be taken from their individual cumulative performance in the challenges. I cannot specify as of yet what the distribution is, but I could hazard a logical guess of 70/30 (70% from the Pre-Judging and 30% from the Challenges). I don’t see it as 50/50 because that would be too strong an allocation for all the medal-earning activities.

So for now, congratulations are in order for the Top 4 in all the challenges – Ilknur Melis Durasi of Turkey for topping the whole thing, with Tamerin Jardine of South Africa not too far behind in second place. Darli Pacheco of Puerto Rico and Warrathaya Wongchayaporn of Thailand are tied for third place overall. Knowing that these four ladies won’t lag behind in the preliminary judging, I am pretty sure they are already shoo-ins for the Official Top 16. 🙂

Moment for the Earth: a successful fund-raising event

During the Moment for the Earth event at the Best Western F1 Premier Hotel, the Miss Earth 2012 candidates each presented auction gifts from their respective countries in the hopes of raising the highest bids from the special guests in attendance. Miss Venezuela Osmariel Villalobos brought a long-stem blue-and-gold necklace made of precious stones. One bidder must be enormously charmed by the gorgeous Latina that he ended up bringing home the said item. It fetched an amount of PHP210,000.00 (a little over US$5,000.00), the night’s best.

All proceeds will go to the various charitable and environmental projects of Miss Earth Foundation.

Meanwhile, the lovely ladies paraded in their National Costumes during the same gathering. While it was already reported that Miss Thailand Warrathaya Wongchayaporn snatched the Gold with her traditional yet elaborately inspiring get-up, there were other non-winning creations that deserve to be mentioned. Three particular standouts were the ones worn by Misses Philippines Stephany Stefanowitz, Indonesia Chelsy Liven and Guatemala Stefany Miranda.

This one’s official. Warrathaya ‘Mind’ Wongchayaporn of Thailand deservingly won Best in National Costume earlier tonight at the Moment for the Earth Auction Night which was held at the Best Western F1 Premier Hotel alongside the presentation of the candidates in their lovely traditional attires.

On the other hand, Osmariel Villalobos of Venezuela was named Miss Photogenic and was given a corresponding Gold medal. Her National Costume was also a standout.

P.S. Are you aware that Miss Earth Thailand is some sort of a psychic? She doesn’t predict the future, though, so no jokes about her knowing if she’ll win Miss Earth or not. What my Thai-Fil friend Joey told me is that she has the ability to communicate with the spirits of the dearly departed. 😉

There may be a lot of outstanding delegates for Miss Earth 2012, but Osmariel Villalobos is in a league of her own. I say that without batting an eyelash because this Venezuelan is just all-around shining through. She may not be the best when it comes to teaching about the environment to schoolchildren (the kids won’t understand Spanish so the English speakers are at an advantage) or building a fire from scratch (well, nobody was asked to do so since this isn’t ‘Survivor’ anyways), but she surely knows when to attack and flash what she does best.

After winning Gold in both Swimsuit and Resort Wear, she is slowly but surely climbing up the rankings of Miss Earth Challenges. Right now, she has collected 46 points that place her within striking distance of the leaders. And I don’t think she will let go at this point when all she has to do is actively participate in the remaining eco-related activities so as not to lag behind the more ‘rugged’ competitors who dash, cut aluminum, walk long stretches on heels and get too much soil under their nails to win medals.

Of course, one important concern is if Carousel Productions has her on the shortlist of preferred titleholders. You see, Miss Earth is not just a trophy beauty queen whose personal appearances during the reign are boring ribbon-cuttings and crownings of national winners. She must be committed to spearheading and/or speaking on behalf of environmental projects in different parts of the world. If Osmariel is under the radar of the organization, then her next big hurdles are to pass the tough preliminary interviews and finals Q&A with flying colors. Can she do it? 😉

More Miss Earth 2012 activities (and medals)

Nonstop. That’s the best word to describe the hectic schedule of the Miss Earth 2012 ladies. And I’d like to think that they’re all having fun despite the little rest they had to go through. Anyways, next week should be exciting as their next stop will be Palawan where they will bask in the beaches of Puerto Princesa and enjoy a grand tour of the world-renowned Underground River.

Osmariel Villalobos of Venezuela continues to stamp her class above the rest of Group 2 after she was awarded Gold in the Swimsuit Competition at Golden Sunset Resort in Calatagan, Batangas. Coming in at 2nd is USA's Siria Bojorquez, good enough for Silver. Sara Kim of Korea got the Bronze. A non-medal earning award was given to Nathalia Moreira of Spain who was selected Gandang Ricky Reyes.

During the Resort Wear Competition held at Hotel Pontefino in Batangas City, the Gold Medal was won by Osmariel Villalobos of Venezuela, with Ilknur Melus Durasi of Turkey and Fabiana Granados of Costa Rica copping Silver and Bronze, respectively. Meanwhile, a non-medal earning award was handed to Shauny Bult of the Netherlands as Miss Earth Pontefino.

During the Walk With ME held at SM Mall of Asia this time, three ladies stood out as the People's Choices and were awarded medals as follows: Gold - Rocio Castellanos of Dominican Republic, Silver - Nathalia Moreira of Spain and Bronze - Natalia Pereverzeva of Russia.

During the Green Bag Challenge, three winners were awarded for each placement since this was a group activity. Gold was given to Australia, Belize and Belgium. Silver went to Bosnia & Herzegovina, Botswana and Austria. Bronze was co-shared by Singapore, South Africa and Slovak Republic.

A group of Miss Earth delegates did the 'I Love My Planet Earth School Tour' in Makati City led by Tamerin Jardine of South Africa. One lady who had a good time teaching the schoolchildren was Lea Sara Wittwer of Switzerland.

Gold Medalist as 'Fastest Learner' during the Liter of Light Project in San Juan was Darli Pacheco of Puerto Rico (Center, Top Photo), with Silver Medalist Gloria Ofa Blake of New Zealand and Bronze taker Lorraine Ditsebe of Botswana.

My Early Favorites from the Miss Earth 2012 Press Conference

The 68 Miss Earth 2012 hopefuls during yesterday’s Press Conference.

It sure is getting more difficult coming up with favorites for Miss Earth year after year. The quality of candidates has been going way up in the last few and 2012 tops them all. In yesterday’s Press Conference at the Best Western F1 Premier Hotel, 68 lovelies were introduced. And while a good half has already been seen participating in most of the pageant’s initial activities during the past weekend, the ones who have been spotted for the first time serve as testaments to the continuously growing quality of the competition. So without further ado, here are photo grids of my initial picks to figure out well in the weeks ahead. Nothing final here yet.

And just to sweeten this post a little more, I added a list of four contestants who are currently occupying my elemental slots. If the finals were to be held at this moment, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them grabbing the Top 4 positions.

Both Tamerin Jardine of South Africa and Ilknur Melis Durasi define what it is to be Miss Earth in the real sense of the crown. But then again, you cannot discount the fact that Osmariel Villalobos of Venezuela and Natalia Pereverzeva of Russia are just as determined to add their extra gorgeousness and winnability to the table and make the contest more exciting.

It usually happened in previous years’ Miss Earth Press Presentations that rains would dampen the proceedings and force the event to move indoors in a more cramped space. Fortunately this morning, the weather cooperated and the close to 70 candidates were able to parade around the poolside of Best Western F1 Premier Hotel in BGC. The area was not shaped to help them walk freely, but just the same, press members and photographers alike were treated to a shower of beauties from all parts of the world. In top photo, the Philippines' Stephany Stefanowitz grabbed Gold as Press Darling, with Thailand's Warrathaya Wongchayaporn and USA's Siria Bojorquez getting Silver and Bronze, respectively.

There were many stand-outs among the contenders. For now, I would handpick top-of-my-head 15 which include Venezuela’s Osmariel Villalobos, Costa Rica’s Fabiana Granados, Norway’s Nina Fjalestad, Colombia’s Cindy Kohn-Cybulkiewicz, Czech Republic’s Teresa Fajksova, South Africa’s Tamerin Jardine, Thailand’s Warrathaya Wongchayaporn, Russia’s Natalia Pereverzeva, Mongolia’s Battsetseg Turbat, Moldova’s Aliona Chitoroaga, Turkey’s Ilknur Melis Durasi, Brazil’s Camila Brant, US Virgin Islands’ Carolyn Whitney Carter, Kenya’s Fiona Konchella and Netherlands’ Shauny Bult. Just to build a group of 20, India’s Prachi Mishra the Philippines’ Stephany Stefanowitz, Fiji’s Esther Cheyanne Foss, USA’s Siria Bojorquez and Poland’s Justyna Rajczyk were also glowing.

The Ladies to Watch: My Miss Earth 2012 Pre-Arrival Selection

Since it’s already the start of November and the contenders should start pouring in the country around these days, I decided to post a video showing the beautiful delegates who comprise my Pre-Arrival Favorites for Miss Earth 2012. Do keep in mind that this selection is purely based on online sources. At any rate, will the same ladies remain on top of my scoresheet come Finals Night on November 24? It all depends on how they will present themselves all throughout their stay in Manila. So many things can happen between now and then, so the list is very likely to still have some changes.
