Beat boxing during the talent competition of Miss World 2012 in Ordos
2012 was the year Queenie Rehman represented the Philippines in Miss World. And it was during the time in Ordos when the country’s rep presented a most unique skill that catapulted her to a Top 5 finish in the Talent competition (eventually won by Miss World 2012 Wenxia Yu with her classical singing
Let us now re-watch Queenie’s beatboxing number during Miss World 2012 when she performed the song “Rocketeer” made famous by the group Far East Movement.

Of late, Queenie has been busy with modeling gigs during the Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2015. But I bet she can still perform a mean beatboxing number on any given Sunday. 😉

When Miss World Philippines 2012 Queenie Rehman set out to Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China for Miss World 2012, one of her smaller targets in the competition is to have a side-by-side picture individually taken with all the candidates. To date, she has already collected quite a large number of shots with them. I don’t think she has really completed each and every one of her fellow delegates yet, but she has definitely won the hearts of most, if not all. Instead of just associating herself with the Asian contestants all the time, she opted to spread her wings and hop to the reps of other continents – be it the Europeans, the Latinas, the Africans and the Carribbean belles. The opportunity happens but once in a lifetime so she’s really making the most out of this life-changing experience.
Tonight, a new Miss World will be crowned. If fate has it for Queenie to be the ONE, then what a lovely gift this will be for all her countrymen, apart from the achievement of becoming the first Filipina to win the elusive title. Otherwise, we can still smile and congratulate her for a job well done.

There is increasing awareness of the Northern Chinese city of Ordos, one of the twelve major subdivisions of Inner Mongolia, China. And why not? For a relatively less popular destination, it is now playing the major league in beauty pageant hosting. Miss World 2012 will hold its finals at the cavernous Dongsheng National Fitness Center Stadium on August 18. According to Wikipedia, “…Ordos is one of the richest regions of China. With a nominal per-capita GDP of US$14,500 in 2008, it is ranked ahead of the capital city of China, Beijing. It is extremely rich in natural resources, having one sixth of the coal reserve in China. The pillars of its economy are textile (wool), coal mining, petrochemicals, electricity generation and production of building materials.”
Dongsheng National Fitness Center Stadium
Once called China’s ’empty city’, the place used to look like a ghost town with a lot of uninhabited hectares of land. But with the boom in economic prosperity, Ordos is now looking more and more like an urbanized industrial zone, complete with mushrooming infrastructures and the like. In fact, the Miss World 2012 venue (Dongsheng National Fitness Center Stadium) could be called an impressive sight – what with its more than 30,000 square meters of ceiling baffles and extra large seating capacity. I’m pretty sure the visiting loved ones and supporters of all the delegates won’t have a hard time squeezing themselves in. There is room for everyone!
Crowne Plaza Ordos – one of the more well-reviewed hotels in this city.
Speaking of rooms, Tripadvisor
states that there are currently eighty-eight (88) recognized hotels in Ordos, with a marked concentration on reasonably-priced 2-3 star accommodations. This only means that a week or two of stay in the city won’t break the bank too much. The more popular places to book are the likes of Kaihong Hotel
, Crowne Plaza Ordos
and Kaixuanmen Holiday Hotel
If you’re planning to go to Ordos for Miss World 2012, Norman’s Blog strongly recommends that you start booking now. Domestic flights going there can be reserved online, with a trusted travel agent or at the Beijing International Airport itself where you need to connect with either China United Airlines or Air China for a less than 2-hour travel time. And do remember that weather can still be nippy during August (between 14°-24°C) so bring an extra layer of clothing for those cold nights and frosty mornings.

Call her the missing member in the country’s roster of representatives for the Grand Slam beauty pageants of 2012. Miss World Philippines 2012 Queenie Rehman is last in, first out, i.e., last to be crowned nationally and first to compete internationally. Additionally, she carries the big weight on her shoulders to match – if not surpass – Gwendoline Ruais’ fantastic 2nd-place finish in Miss World 2011. And for this reason alone, we should give her our full support in Miss World 2012. The month of July is just a few days away, and by the middle part, she will already be sent-off to China to start her battle with more than a hundred beauties from all over.
It won’t be an easy journey for this Filipina-Pakistani looker. The unwelcome tension brought about by the political friction between the Philippines and China adds to the crazy equation. But if she sticks to her gameplan like a pageant pro, there should be no big obstacle to stand in her way. And for Pinoy pageant fanatics out there to whom money is no object, then you should start booking your flights to/accommodations in Ordos to cheer her during the MW homestretch by mid-August.
For now, let’s start building positive vibes for our rep. You can visit her official FB page (which, I was told, she administers herself) and follow on Twitter @queenie_rehman 🙂
