Five Asian winners in the international pageant stage for 2016 so far
Even in male pageants, Asian men are not lagging behind
Thailand won Miss Tourism Metropolitan International as well
To date, 2016 has been a harvest-filled year for Asians in the global pageant stage – both female and male categories. Miss International, Miss Supranational, Miss Grand International, The Miss Globe, Miss United Continents and Miss Tourism Metropolitan International have reigning winners from the continent courtesy of Kylie Verzosa, Srinidhi Shetty, Ariska Putri Pertiwi, Dimple Patel, Jeslyn Santos and Chalisa Amanda respectively.
On the other side, Mister World, Mister Model International, Mister Tourism World and Man of the Year are also now being held by Asians via Rohit Khandelwal, Narapat Sakunsong, Okkar Min Maung and Karan Singhdole respectively.
And the year is not over yet. With three more finals coming in soon – Miss World, Miss Tourism International and Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International – I bet the number will increase.
And mind you, I did not even include Miss Asia which has a Filipina titleholder as this contest is continent-focused.
Truly, Asia is in its best year of performance in international pageantry. 🙂
The Mister Tourism World 2016 Winners
Mister Tourism World 2016 Okkar Min Maung of Myanmar
It could have been a foregone conclusion – Okkar Min Maung of Myanmar winning Mister Tourism World 2016, that is – right from the start. But 1st Runner-Up Sangit Shrestha of Nepal made sure that he is a tough even match till the end as the two front-runners went neck-to-neck in claiming the title in the international competition’s inaugural edition. It was like watching a tennis match between the two as they did not allow the closest pursuers to come within striking distance of defeating their bids. 2nd Runner-Up Tieze Emiliano of Brazil was the only non-Asian in the winners’ circle as host delegate Kian Sumague bagged 3rd Runner-Up with Khunphan Supachok of Thailand got 4th Runner-Up. Mario Hien of Vietnam was given the special title of Mister Eco World 2016 as the international face of Ilocos Sur and Vigan Tourism as popularly selected by the host province.
Luke Middlebrook of Australia and M Ryan Ramadhan of Indonesia completed the Top 8 finalists of the contest held at the Vigan Convention Center to cheering crowds. The Facebook Live coverage of Sash Factor even eclipsed the views and likes of the Miss Universe kick-off event.
Okkar will now be the Ambassador of the Mister Tourism World Organization as he will be scheduled to travel to London, Madrid and Paris to complete the UNESCO Certification that will make the second edition bigger and brighter.
This early, there are preliminary talks of Myanmar hosting Mister Tourism World 2017. But nothing has been finalized yet.
For now, congratulations to all the winners!

The Press Presentation of Mister Tourism World 2016 – the inaugural edition of the international male competition – was held yesterday afternoon at the Oscar Function Hall of Icon Hotel Timog in Quezon City. Okkar Min Maung comes from Myanmar for Mister Tourism World 2016
One of the more interesting candidates for Mister Tourism World 2016 is the representative of Myanmar. He is a showbiz personality in his native country – a popular actor and recording artist at that. And during one of our chats, I actually kidded him about the talent he will perform during the competition. He is torn between singing and acting, but I advised him to go for what he does best.
Okkar is actually a good-natured guy who appreciates the warmth and hospitality of people he meets during all his performances out-of-town and even abroad. As part of this blog series, I requested him to make a self-description so that we can get a better appreciation of him as a person. Below is what he said.
“I have already acted in over 50 movies, with so many music videos, calendars, billboards, TV commercials and TV shows from the ages 18-22. I just released my debut album.
My new film titled The Gemini has been released in the United States – New York and Los Angeles in particular – and will be released all over Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia by December.
I want you to know that I am a passionate person, focus-driven and non-judgmental. Laughing is my daily remedy, while babies and puppies make my heart melt anytime. I am a determined hard worker full of positivity. I am a religious person who believes in karma. I also love meeting new friends.
If I were to win Mister Tourism World, I will raise my voice to gain awareness over such issues as sex tourism, child sex abuse and labor, human trafficking and hate crimes. I want to show the world that I have a big heart to share.”
I wish Okkar the best in his upcoming competition here in the Philippines for Mister Tourism World 2016. He may be a big name in his native Myanmar, but has the humility to show everyone that everyone is equal in any challenge that he will face.
See you in Vigan, Okkar! 🙂
