It all started inside Monet Ballroom of Novotel Manila Araneta Center where the forty (40) Binibinis were individually introduced to members of the media during the Press Presentation of Bb. Pilipinas 2018. From there, everyone trooped to the poolside on the 6th floor for the traditional group photos in one line-up. They wore identical blue two-piece swimsuits from DR Swim.
As expected, the favorites I named two blog entries prior stood out in the eyes of everyone. But at the same time, nice surprises were seen from the less hyped beauties such as #Binibini37 Patrizia Garcia, #Binibini15 Juliana Kapeundl, #Binibini35 Sandra Lemonon, #Binibini8 Shane Tormes and #Binibini7 Sigrid Grace Flores. But to be fair, all of them delivered onstage. Kudos, ladies!
The most applauded candidates are #Binibini20 Catriona Gray, #Binibini19 Michele Gumabao, #Binibini32 Eva Patalinjug, #Binibini1 Vickie Marie Rushton #Binibini11 Aya Abesamis and #Binibini14 Samantha Mae Bernardo.
Now who will zoom up, maintain front-runner consistency or fall down a notch from hereon now? We will see in the days and weeks to come as the strong ones start to peak and the flash-in-the-pans begin to lose their stronghold.
Since today will be the Press Presentation of Bb. Pilipinas 2018, I thought it would be fitting to make a Wayback Wednesday entry of the 2017 event held March 22, 2017. The video clip above showed all of last year’s Binibinis in identical Jeffrey Rogador two-piece swimsuits during the opening number.
Now, if only a Darling of the Press would be voted upon, then I reckon that one of these ten (10) contenders will get the attention of members of the media:
#Binibini1 Vickie Marie Rushton
#Binibini3 Muriel Orais
#Binibini11 Aya Abesamis
#Binibini14 Samantha Mae Bernardo
#Binibini19 Michele Gumabao
#Binibini20 Catriona Gray
#Binibini23 Ena Velasco
#Binibini31 Jehza Huelar
#Binibini32 Eva Patalinjug
#Binibini38 Karen Gallman
But since there will be none of the on-site selection for that, I guess it would be safe to say that the ten named Binibinis will be the most watched by everyone.
Here is a quick clip of some of the 2017 Binibinis posing in front of the panel up close.
Aside from the Triple Send-Off for Bb. Pilipinas 2017 Queens Rachel Peters, Chanel Olive Thomas and Katarina Rodriguez, it was also a Double Homecoming Presscon for The Miss Globe 2017 1st Runner-Up Nelda Ibe and Miss Grand International 2017 Elizabeth Clenci that made the entire event more meaningful for all members of the Press who attended.
Our departing ladies are all eager to prove their worth in the international pageant arena, especially that pressure is mounting on their anticipated successes abroad. Instead of feeling the weight on theor shoulders, the motivation is coming from the performances of everyone ahead of them. Let us now watch videos of the well-wishes given by the three departing Queens to each other.
Today, at around 3pm, the last big send-off for our Bb. Pilipinas 2017 Queens will take place at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center. A strictly invitational affair, it will be a 3-in-1 media gathering for Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters (who needs to be in Las Vegas by the 13th at the latest), Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2017 Chanel Olive Thomas (who should depart for Poland soon) and Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2017 Katarina Rodriguez (who still has a little more elbow room to prepare herself for Sri Lanka).
This is a must-coverage for normannorman.com as BPCI expects Joy Arguil and I to be present at the event. And we will bring the happenings to you as soon as available.
In the meantime, below is a BTS video clip of the latest photoshoot of Rachel with Raymond Saldaña as recorded by Ron Angeles. Just to whet your appetite. 🙂
There is always a fascinating way by which Bb. Pilipinas Grand International 2017 Elizabeth Clenci articulates herself – be it in public or during one-on-one interviews. Aside from the Aussie-English accent that makes her answers sound more endearing, she definitely knows what she wants to say and delivers sensible answers spiced up with light banters or quick quips showing a delightful sense of humor.
Watch her interviews below – the first during her latest guesting on CNN Philippines and the second during the open mic session in the triple send-off.

I was told that Elizabeth has assembled a wardrobe for Vietnam that she carefully thought of herself. She has a pretty clear idea of how she will present herself every single day of the competition, and handlers at the KF camp (or even at BPCI) could only trust her enough in that regard. Initially, she plans to bring a total of ten (10) luggage. If this holds true till the day of departure, then she will have the luxury of choosing her outfits based on what she feels is right for a particular event or public appearance. In addition, she has already mastered a kind of pasarela that could blow away the other contenders. Everyone’s lips are sealed because this is supposed to be a surprise.
The only detail she confirmed so far is that she will wear a Muslim-inspired National Costume made by Designer Jearson Demavivas.
All I can say is this. Let’s trust Elizabeth from this point onwards. She has a neat game plan that will start reeling off the minute she lands in Ho Chi Minh City all the way to the finals at the Vinpearl Resort in Phu Quoc Island. I remain firm in my assessment of her chances. She will do us proud.
During yesterday afternoon’s formal opening of the Ice N Cream by Novotel | Carmen’s Best at the Ground Floor of Novotel Manila Araneta Center, I was able to corner the popular photographer who always shoots the Binibinis in their official pictorials and will definitely be the one in-charge of the photoshoot of the Bb. Pilipinas 2017 winners a day or two after April 30.
From a lensman’s point of view, he singled out five (5) names among the forty (40) ladies after asking him who his favorite subjects are. Without the need to think long, he immediately mentioned the names of Sirene Sutton (just as I had expected) and Mariel de Leon, followed in succession by Charmaine Elima, Larah Grace Lacap and Jehza Huelar. He also included Rachel Peters and Elizabeth Clenci. Except for your #Binibini16 and #Binibini39, the rest are all expected to do well on Coronation Night.
Let us see if Raymond’s preferences will go well with the actual winners. Who knows, he might have found something special in Larah’s and Elizabeth’s photographic faces that we still haven’t seen through his lens. 🙂

Shots from the lobby of Novotel Manila Araneta Center when the 2016 Binibinis checked in last year
Miss Universe 2015 in front of Novotel
It’s Throwback Thursday time, and with the clock ticking fast in the Bb. Pilipinas 2017 Coronation Night countdown, I decided to make a feature about last year’s Binibinis when they checked-in at the Official Residence – Novotel Manila Araneta Center
– which is so conveniently located right beside Araneta Coliseum where the Big Night will happen.
I can still remember a few fun observations last year:
– eventual runners-up Angelica Alita and Jehza Huelar were inseparable as they also roomed together at the hotel;
– Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa got Jennyline Malpaya – who is once more in the thick of the fight for 2017 as your #Binibini7 – as her roommate;
– Miss Globe 2016 3rd Runner-Up Nichole Manalo shared the room with Dindi Pajares who continues to compete in the current batch as your #Binibini24 and;
– Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach checked-in as well and helped in formally welcoming the ladies to Novotel. We all know by now that Queen P will be hosting the finals this year.
Anyways, I reckon that the Bb. Pilipinas 2017 Official Candidates will start checking-in at Novotel tonight or early tomorrow. After all, they will all grace the formal opening of the Ice and Cream outlet at the ground floor soon!
