After diligently studying the One hundred sixty-seven (167) entries to our Fun Prediction Contest, I have initially arrived at two (2) possible winning entries. Both individuals were able to guess four (4) of the Top 5 correctly. The first difference that gave one the edge over the other is that Kyle missed out on the 3rd-ranked Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental crown, while regular poster Carlo placed the wrong name for the 2nd-ranked Bb. Pilipinas International title. Another advantage of the former is that he submitted his entry at 14:03HRS on March 28 (almost a full ten hours before the deadline) while the latter e-mailed his at around 20:45HRS on March 29 (nearly 24 hours after the deadline).
So our winner (a homegrown entry for a change) is Kyle Tracerda (I’m not sure if it is his real name or not, but will find out soon enough) of Davao City. His entry is posted below. Kudos as well to Carlo who came so close. I would have declared a tie if only he hadn’t missed the cut-off date and time (which was met by 92% of the entries).
I have already exchanged emails with Kyle about his win and he volunteered to shoulder the shipping expenses of the prize package to his home province (to be deducted from the cash prize). However, I insisted that I take care of everything since we have a trusted courier service at work.
Congratulations, Kyle!
Till our next Fun Prediction Contest (which might be Miss World Philippines 2014). š
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
About 1,000,000 people visit the Seattle Space Needle every year. This blog was viewed about 4,300,000 times in 2013. If it were the Space Needle, it would take about 4 years for that many people to see it.
Just like Philippine pageantry, I consider 2013 as my most significant blogging year to date. Aside from achieving all-time high numbers in hits, unique visits, single-day views, and comments, ad revenues have also increased.
123,473 are magic numbers to me. Stat-wise, they represent the highest single-day views last November 10, a day after Miss Universe 2013 was crowned. 6,782,097 is another one. As of 7:30 this morning, the total number of hits has already reached this figure.
The top commenters (excluding myself, of course) have to be acknowledged as well. I consider them (and the rest) as the “vitamins” of this site. Without the discussions, replies, banters, small catfights and all, the posts will be nothing but solitary displays of my crazy-as-clockwork mind. I can live on 4-5 hours of sleep per night, but it is essential that these well-meaninged individuals sustain the drive for readership while my attention is focused somewhere else. I doff my hat to Dexter, Closer2Fame, Sheena, basil, Lavinia Arguelles and Queen_b. But I would also like to cite others like Benjie, Philip, Chrome, HUNK5525, Beauty_Spy, PinayGem, Jen, Mrs. AJ, Chief Justice, Ernest Reyes, Laila, Reydan, mole, Y. Chang, Dandan, Ramway, Grounder, Gina, Duckie, kabiliran, Erwann Pierro, MU2014, Gloria Makabayan, Dawn Selya Saladores, sashababe, themba, alexandraflora, bonparisien, Mae, Ray Albus, Sophie, Shaun, all the permutations of Angelo Reyes and yes, even Norman Jr. If I haven’t mentioned your poster name, please forgive my sometimes-forgetful memory. To Sash Factor, thank you for completing my year. My inclusion in your list of 10 Most Influential People in Philippine Pageantry for 2013 is a priceless gift much more valuable than its weight in gold. It will always be remembered.
Lastly, big thanks to my friends and colleagues at OPMB Worldwide. I owe them a lot, especially Jory Rivera, Noli Berioso, Bruce Casanova, and Melvin Sia.
Maraming, maraming salamat sa inyong lahat! (Thank you very very much to all of you!) š
FYI, nobody got the accurate order of Miss Universe 2013 (Venezuela) and four runners-up (Spain, Ecuador, Philippines, Brazil). It was really difficult, I admit. Who would have thought that the likes of popular guesses Puerto Rico, Ukraine, Israel, France and USA will miss the Top 5?
Anyways, I used a simple points-based system in deciding on who came closest with his/her predictions, as follows:
1. For correctly predicting Miss Universe 2013, thirty (30) points will be awarded.
2. For correctly predicting the 1st Runner-Up, twenty (20) points will be awarded.
3. For correctly predicting the 2nd Runner-Up, fifteen (15) points will be awarded. (Nobody got this part at all)
4. For correctly predicting the 3rd Runner-Up, twelve (12) points will be awarded.
5. For correctly predicting the 4th Runner-Up, ten (10) points will be awarded.
6. For correctly predicting one or more of the Top 5 but not in the right order or placement, five (5) points each will be awarded.
As a result, we have one (1) entry that garnered forty-two (42) points. This guy correctly guessed Venezuela as Miss Universe and Philippines as 3rd Runner-Up. See the screenshot of his predictions below.
Since our winner is living in the USA, he will be sent a USD100 Amazon Gift Card within the week.
Congratulations to our winner, Mr. Chris Piol Cameros of Hayward, California!
Thank you to all 302 of you who joined our Fun Prediction Contest.
The next one will happen in Bb. Pilipinas 2014! Unless, I get a sponsor for Miss Earth 2013. š
If the eventual winner happens to live outside the Philippines, the prize will be a USD100 Amazon gift card.
The deadline for our “Predict Miss Universe 2013 and her four runners-up” Fun Prediction Contest will be at 11:59PM tonight.
I’m thinking that most of the predictors who joined ‘Predict Miss World 2013 and her two Princesses’ are having difficulty deciding on their final line-up for this one. Consider it a big challenge and join the close to a hundred (100) entries I have received so far. š
After a total of 99,128 votes casted, Miss Philippines Ariella Arida was voted by this blog’s readers as the top pick to win Miss Universe 2013 this coming Saturday in Moscow.
Ariella cornered 17.85% of the votes – equivalent to 17,691 – to pull away from 2nd placer Yaritza Reyes of the Dominican Republic who managed 13,195 (13.26%). A distant 3rd is Indonesia’s Whulandary Herman (9,166), followed by Monic Perez of Puerto Rico in 4th (8,924) and Jennifer Ondo of Gabon (7,858) rounding up the Top 5.
What are the chances of these poll results reflecting the actual outcome? Will the first four placers at least penetrate the magic circle? And will your #1 choice eventually get to wear the Diamond Nexus Lab crown with a surprise something else that will be unveiled on finals night?
Let’s wait and see!
šThank you! Maraming Salamat! Daghang Salamat! Gracias! Merci! Dakal salamat! Salamat hin madamo! Arigato gozaimasu! Xie xie! Khop khun khap!
Norman’s Blog made it as #1 among all Entertainment & Lifestyle blogs in the Philippines according to topblogs. At the same time, my stats helped me reach #3 among ALL blogs in the Philippines. š
You don’t know how much this warms my heart. š
P.S. I’m not sure how long the #1 rank will last because stats move so fast. But fleeting moments like this deserve to be mentioned. š
Here we go again.
And my 2nd Fun Prediction Contest has officially started!
Things to remember:
1) You will need to give me five (5) names – one (1) Miss Universe and four (4) runners-up in the right order.
2) In the event that nobody gets the right combination, the winner will be the predictor with the closest set of guesses to the actual results. Should two or more entries (with the same set of names) be qualified to win, a raffle will be made to determine the sole victor.
3) All entries should be emailed to: norman.blogsite@gmail.com
4) Strictly one (1) entry per person only.
5) You can only change your predictions once. A third attempt to send me a different set of predictions will disqualify your entry altogether. So think hard before you click!
6) Deadline for submission of entries will be on Friday, November 8, 11:59PM.
Prize/s will be announced on another day.
So start analyzing your choices now! š
Tougher than the first. That much I can say.
With five (5) countries to predict. And in the most accurate order possible. This will be a test of keen eyes, stronger gut-feels, firm decisions and a dash of luck thrown in for good measure.
Watch out for more details as the contest period nears. I will not be accepting entries between now and October 23 yet. So please keep tab of the dates.
This will definitely add more spice to our rollercoaster Miss Universe 2013 ride. š
