5’9″ Klyza Castro of Davao City and 5’11” April May Short of Zamboanga City made it a 1-2 punch of victory for Mindanao in Mutya Pilipinas 2019 after they were crowned as the country’s representatives this year for Miss Asia Pacific International here in Manila and World Top Model in Monaco.
Both ladies will have their hands full the coming months as they prepare for their respective pageant missions.
Tyra Goldman of Nevada is now the first overseas community representative to win the right to represent us in Malaysia’s Miss Tourism International.
Early strong contender – the statuesque Cyrille Payumo of Pampanga – faltered in her Top 6 Q&A and settled for 1st Runner-Up honors.

After a sumptuous Chinese lauriat at the Gloriamaris Gateway, I spent some quality time getting to know this 18 year-old Mutya Pilipinas 2019 Official Candidate who is representing the state of New Jersey. She is actually one of nine (9) entries from overseas communities, and one of two candidates sent by the Canada-based IPEN Group (International Pageant Entertainment Network) of Edgar Sulit. While some will call her a pageant newbie, this young lady has already represented the country in last year’s Miss Teen Universe in Nicaragua where she made the semifinals.
At 5’11”, Ysabel Napiza is one of the certified tallest beauties in this year’s batch, and a likely contender for the newest title of the national pageant – World Top Model Philippines. With her youth chiming in as another advantage in being considered for the said honor, there is something to look forward to in the finals this coming August 18.
A future Medical Services practitioner, Ysabel is maximizing her time for what lies ahead of her in pageantry before buckling down to serious academics by the time she turns 20. Parents John Christopher and Catherine are very supportive of their daughter’s foray into the world of crowns and gowns. If she is fortunate enough to win one of the four titles at stake – or even just a respectable placement in the magic circle – then they will continuously be by her side every step of the way.
For now, please watch a video of my casual one-on-one with Ysabel by clicking below.
With the last-minute entry of former Bb. Pilipinas 2019 candidate April May Short in Mutya Pilipinas 2019, can she be the game-changing contender the pageant is waiting for as potential grabber of the World Top Model Philippines 2019 title in the competition?
You see, the World Top Model finals that will be held in Monaco this coming December 14, 2019 strictly requires a representative who is at least 5’9” in height with modelesque proportions and a bright potential to do well in international modeling and possibly win the top contract of 200,000 Euros.
Everyone during the Press Presentation showed their approval of her inclusion. While there are at least three other candidates who can be considered for this title (Ysabel Napiza, Cyrille Payumo and Karla Lasquite), April has the experience and prior preparation that would make her a cinch to win this honor.
At the Main Ballroom of Citadines Bay City Manila, the 40 Official Candidates of Mutya Pilipinas 2019 were introduced to members of the media in a much-anticipated Press Presentation that gathered representatives from both trad and digital sector.
President Cory Quirino was visibly happy with the turnout of attendees and was even more pleased to see the ladies giving their A-game during the swimsuit and introduction parts of the event.
Reigning titleholders Aya Fernandez, Kheshapornam Ramachandran, Pauline Amelinckx and Justine Teng lent their presence to the proceedings.
Chosen as Darlings of the Press (in a tie) are Andrea Fe Gomez of Baguio City and Maxinne Nicole Rangel of Padre Garcia, Batangas (right photo).
Below are photos from the said activity.
38 of the 40 Official Candidates for Mutya Pilipinas 2019 have already been selected by an esteemed panel headed by President Cory Quirino at the Ascott Makati.
The 38 ladies include the provincial winners and the representatives of the Overseas Filipino Communities of Los Angeles, Arizona, Ilinois, Nevada, New Jersey, Bahrain, UAE, Canada and Australia. Two more seeded delegates will check-in this coming Monday to complete the roster.
Standouts are two statuesque ladies from New Jersey (Ysabel Napiza) and Pampanga (Cyrille Payumo) plus Karla Lasquite of Cebu and Klyza Castro of Davao City.
Get to know them more during the Press Presentation this coming August 1 at Citadines Manila Bay.
